    Thanks for an informative and well-produced video report. Cardiff to Holyhead via England - a really useful long-distance connection. Glad to see the Mk4 coaches enjoying a new lease of their comfortable and quiet lives.

    It's CONWY not Conway! The Menai Suspension Bridge is the old A5 road bridge. The railway crosses on the Britannia Tubular Bridge which was rebuilt following the 1970 fire that destroyed the original bridge.

    I have noticed in 2023, that the price for 1st class on TfW trains is £70 one way. Also, I say this new second hand coachs are a lot better then the ones they used to have. Before 2020 they used to have just one train a day that had 1st class in each direction, the other Cardiff to Holyhead trains were stander class trains.

    Great video again. The breakfast looked delicious. 4.5 hours seems awfully slow to Holyhead - sounds like a round about way via every available valley! Specially when London can be done in 2 and a bit hours.

      That's how long it takes. Look at the map and you'll see there are no other rail routes, and unlike South Wales - London you aren't travelling on lines suitable for 125 mph.

    Excellent video! I've sampled the 17:16 Cardiff to Holyhead several times in First Class and always found the food and the staff to be extremely good. My most recent journey was just before Covid. First Class was full and I hope it continues to be a popular service.

      @@TheGeordieTravels You're very welcome. I've not travelled on the Restaurant services recently, I know they've changed it so you now have to pay for the meals, whereas before it was included in the cost of the First Class ticket or upgrade. It's always been brilliant though.

    Cracking little trip, Sunset would be really good time, too, I reckon!
    Like you, I prefer curtains. If the sun's in my eyes it won't be in the eyes of the person opposite..
    Depends which buzzing you mean - the constant one seems to be a "feature" of these and some Mk 3 coaches.
    The other one I could hear sounded like the aircon system, again, common on coaches of this vintage!
    Thanks for taking me along.

    You're correct to assert that the First Class Customer Lounge ("Lolfa Dosbarth Cyntaf" if you prefer the Welsh language version) at Cardiff Central Station is available to holders of Transport for Wales Business Class tickets for use on the thrice-daily dining train services to Holyhead/Caergybi, but it's so cramped and poky that I don't usually bother. Considering that Cardiff Central Station is the gateway to south Wales and the place where GWR's inter-city Class 800 trains from London Paddington arrive, the First Class customer lounge is little short of a disgrace. It lacks toilet and shower facilities, not to mention proper work stations for business travellers who need to work on their laptops. I'm surprised that Members of the Welsh Parliament haven't been objecting loud and long to this unsatisfactory situation.

    • @TheGeordieTravels
      @TheGeordieTravels  Před 2 lety

      Thank you for watching, I never made it into the lounge as it was closed - although the website stated it opened at 6am, it didn’t. I appreciate your comments and agree as a capital station with a gateway to everywhere it should offer better facilities!? Maybe GWR and TfW should get their heads together!?

Look this up on the web, the rail station with the longest name in the world. (The longest name of any town at all is in N Zealand but that doesnt have a rail station.)
