Then Anouk happened.... it was the best decision ever to drop the nationals and just send a selected artist. We've been qualified ever since (except for Trijntje, but that was due to a lot of reasons and Jeangu wouldn't have qualified if it wasn't for Duncan winning) and have sent amazing songs. It was no fun being a Dutch Eurovision geek and seeing your country not qualify for so many years in a row. Glad Anouk came and went, she herself was the one that decided to only do Eurovision if she could decide everything and not compete against other artists before going to Eurovision. So, everytime a country has done a terrible job many times in a row and suddenly send in a good entree (UK for example) we call it a 'Anoukje' or an 'Anouk-moment'. Referring to what she did for our country in Eurovision!

Not sure whether this is because the songs from 2012 are more familiar, but I loved 2012 much more. The songs just seem more unique and memorable, better voices too (comparing yo the actual live sound this year). “Never forget” is my all time favourite esc song, but also so many iconc songs: Euphoria, babushkas, Estonia, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland lol, Serbia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Norway, Romania, Denmark, Switzerland, Bulgaria - was singing depobicho😆 along, still cannot get over she didn’t qualify. Such great melodies
Yes, they've had pretty strong voices, especially female ones. I'm also angry about Bulgaria not qualifying through a tie, although the song was more memorable than Norway's. And this also through a tie, which makes it even more unfortunate. I also think, they would have qualified with the new system in place. I think that Norway shouldn't have qualified, neither should have Hungary, which was the 10th place qualifier of the other semi.
I largely agree with you, except for Slovenia. And maybe Georgia. Finally someone who's putting Give A Wolf A Banana over Stay, which is a really boring song. I also love both Spanish and Swedish songs (both Serbian songs as well, I guess) but I think I'll give the edge to 2012 when it comes to Spain (powerful voice), but to 2022 when it comes to Sweden. Another thing I probably have to disagree with is Austria, bc 2012 wasn't as terrible live, the issue is rather that you can neither sing or rap or do anything musically in German, even if it's not actual German, but Austro Bavarian. The last appearance of this language so far. (the last appearance of Standard German was in the mid 2000s, I guess) And I bet, it's gonna take another 10 years until we're gonna hear it again. It's just like Danish, an non musical language.

Great video, you should do one on 2011 vs 2021 and 2020 vs 2010 as well. And 2009 vs 2019. Not sure about videos from 2004 to 2008 (but from before 2004? Better not). And of course such videos in the years to come, eg 2013 vs 2023, 2014 vs 2024, etc. Like I said, I'm not sure about 2003 vs 2013. Maybe those years shouldn't be all too early, definitely not anything before 1996 (unless it's something from the mid to late 70s). But generally, I like the idea of a 10 year challenge. Generally speaking, 2012 wasn't only the year of the hugest stage, but also the one of the great and powerful voices, whereas 2022 was more minimal and reduced, both in terms of staging but also in terms of power and volume. More soft and silent girls ballads and sad boys songs were dominant in Turin, I guess.

I have to disagree about Malta although Emma is talented and I think Michela and especially Destiny who is an amazing you diva in the best sense - the difference is they had good songs. I Am What I Am is such generic treacle that I was genuinely estastic it was nowhere near qualification the only problem is it did better than Georgia.
I'm from Ukraine and, though, I loved ALL the performances, my absolute favorites were UK, Portugal, Moldova, Poland (and ofc Ukraine). Can't stop listening to these songs on Spotify ❤

norway 2012 the reason Toji got last place was very heavily due to the false singing. He sucked so badly at hitting the notes. And the Jury is extremly harsh on that
I agree, I loved Echo, she's really got a strong voice and didn't deserve 0 points from the televote, but I like Fulenn as well and think it should've ranked higher as well, even though i prefer Echo.

I have to disagree about Malta although Emma is talented and I think Michela and especially Destiny who is an amazing you diva in the best sense - the difference is they had good songs. I Am What I Am is such generic treacle that I was genuinely estastic it was nowhere near qualification the only problem is it did better than Georgia.
Impossible to decide between the two years 18-18 so if I add the 5 participating countries in addition to 2012, 2012 wins... 😅
