    FYI for anyone doing a similar ride in mid 2024 -- They are replacing the north bridge at Fort Pierce. It's still passable, but with the construction, there is a half-mile-ish stretch with no extra space for cyclists. I'd recommend crossing back to the mainland on the 17th street bridge in Vero Beach.

    Thanks for this video! I have been thinking of making a trip down the east coast (from orlando) and this was a lot of good info as to what I would be getting into. FYI: Lauderdale by the Sea is hands down one of the prettiest beaches we have, as well as the closest place in Florida where the coral reefs come right up to the shore, you can snorkel out and see the reefs right from the shore with very little effort. I have spent a lot of time up and down the coast between Titusville and Ft Lauderdale scuba diving... now I'm completely into cycling :D

    I live in Vero Beach and travel between Melbourne and Fort Pierce regularly. It's so cool to see everyday things from this perspective. I was genuinely excited to see some of our landmarks. However, there were several things that you should have stopped to see or mentioned (Archie Carr Wildlife Refuge Visitors' Center, McClarty Treasure Museum, etc). There is so much to Florida beyond Disney and Universal.

      Awesome, Dennis. Glad you enjoyed the vid. This still remains one of my favorite rides of all time. I'm returning shortly to finish the rest of the trip all the way to Key West. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it as well.
      Perhaps as a public service announcement, and mostly because I received so much email with concerns and warnings, I'll just pass it along. You have to be super careful on the main roads. I've learned that there is a lot of insurance fraud combined with poor driving, vacationers who are not paying attention, etc. Stay super visible with lights and reflective gear and be absolutely aware of your surroundings (aka "head on a swivel"). I did my best to stay off high traffic routes even if A1A used them. Whenever I could find a side road, I took it. My biggest scares were in big touristy areas like Cocoa Beach...I had people turning right in front of me, drivers preoccupied with phones, etc. Sorry...don't mean to lecture or to scare you. Just sharing concerns in the hopes it will be an extra great experience for you.

      Yeah, there was a good bit of traffic but I never felt like people were driving too aggressively or haphazardly (which is what I was warned about). I went right before Spring Break started to kick in so I may have missed a lot of visitors, although if you saw the back-ups (like the one getting into St. Augustine), maybe traffic was normal. I only regretted that I wish I would have had more time and kept going after Ft Lauderdale. I'd like to make it to Key West some day.
      Hurray for Delaware! :) Yeah, I've been here 19 years and it has definitely grown on me. I came here as a work relocation and never thought we would stay. Now my kids are putting down roots here so I guess I'll stick around.

    To bad you did get to enjoy your ride, should do it on a Trike Recumbent. No neck pains, no shoulder pains, no wrist numbing or pain, no lower back problems, no balance problems and no Bruising between the legs. I'm able to look around instead of just seeing the path in front of me, no more having to put one or both feet on the ground so one doesn't fall, just sitting back and enjoy that's what my Catrike Dumont Trike does for me. Also folds up so doesn't take up much room and you don't have to remove the seat like other trikes.
    Also can carry more on the Trike.
    I'm 73 years old and enjoyed biking on the 2 wheels but since I got my Catrike Dumont I wish I had it 50 years ago.

    Thanks Bryan... Beautiful trip and great adventure. I personally love the waterfront scenes where the trail gets close to the intercoastal barrier island shores. I used to ride those on the west coast of Florida around Sarasota/Bradenton.
    Are you still running standard settings without modification. Some of it looked that way but most of it, on sunny days, was slightly yellowed on the grass and vegetation. Just curious with what you are doing and experimenting with.
    The area you were passing though on the east coast of southern Florida has the highest concentration of the criminal hierarchy in the US and the world. They are all there from all over the world with their security details.
    Each is watching the other because the water gets rough where they all like to play. Yup... no pics allowed! 🤔
    Gord

    • @RideAlongAdventures
      @RideAlongAdventures  Před rokem +1

      Re: criminal activity…😳 yikes.
      I think what you are seeing is the combo of several cameras. The insta360 in particular had some very odd coloring compared to the GoPro. I added a small amount of a LUT which balanced it for most clips. The iPhone seemed to over oversaturate the most and I pulled back those clips. The weirdest were the indoor shots that were just all over the map. That being said, the colors were truly vibrant with sunshine and absolutely gray on cloudy days. It was a challenge!
      I’m still struggling with what CZcams does in its own rendering. I had to redo and upload the video twice because it was really off. I generally watch it through my laptop on a big screen a few times but then I watched it after the HD rendering and it was needing a lot of adjustments.
      I really enjoyed this ride. As you know, I’ve spent a lot of time near Sanibel but I’ve never seen a lot of the northeast coastline and that was really amazing. A beautiful experience.

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd Před rokem

      @@RideAlongAdventures Thanks for all that explanation, Bryan. Sounds like the GoPro is the one to stick with.
      I was going to ask you what the actual impression was and you just mentioned it. It's so important, in my opinion, to find the tools that render the actual impression necessary to project the same kinds of feelings you had. That seems to be the main reason you are recording.
      Sorry to hear that CZcams wasn't rendering well. If their algorithms accentuate the incorrect rendering of the equipment, then that is another problem, on top of everything else.
      The gray days all seemed to turn out ok. But the sunny days had the issues for sure. I enjoyed the visuals just the same but the best feelings can get lost if the tones are off.
      Honestly, I would stick with the latest GoPro cameras. I know you need different points of view in order to maintain interest as well as provide video backup in the event one system goes down. Smart move for sure.
      Thanks for all the hard work and sharing your experiences.

There are a few around the big lake I have stayed at before.
      Since you're going to be up around the Orlando/Ocala area, I would recommend checking out some of Florida's blue holes/natural springs. Incredible crystal clear water and manatees if you catch it at the right time of year. Just watch out for gators!
      Smooth roads and blue skies,

    Hello there!! My name is Bobby G and I REALLY enjoy ur videos. The are scenic and you are VERY informative to the viewing public and fellow cyclists who are just itching to go out and do the same as you. Just a quick question regarding your Florida tour mainly because I am a Floridian and you road past my house(Condo) in S. Daytona. Anyway,I’m wanting to know the name brand AND model# if any of your bike trunk WITH the attached Panniers??
    I have a Jann&a Topeak deluxe but they don’t seem as stout as yours. Thanks for time and stay well👍🚲

      Hey, Bobby G! Thanks, man--those are very kind words. First of all, Florida is awesome so I'm jealous. Second...I hope you've gone to see those Single-A Daytona Dragons. I'm a Reds fan by birth in Cincinnati.
      Ok...in terms of trunk bag, I use the Bontrager Interchange Bag (www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-bags-panniers/bontrager-interchange-deluxe-rear-trunk-bag/p/14605/) BUT I don't think they make it anymore. If I look at the Bontrager/TREK website, they are now selling a similar bag (www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-bags-panniers/bontrager-mik-utility-trunk-bag-with-panniers/p/22739/?colorCode=black). I like the bag overall. It looks like the new bag corrected some of the things I didn't like--the shape of the pannier bags was weird on the old model (pointed end). I bought it because it matched up with the Bontrager rear rack which was included on my Trek Checkpoint. It's flexible because you can zip up the side bags for day trips or short rides. Sometimes I do that AND use some larger panniers (Thule) if the tour warrants it. Bontrager stuff is fairly decent although sometimes I think the logo is about a 25% uplift over no-label options.
      Safe riding, Bobby G and thanks for watching!

      The kind words are well deserved and thanks a lot for the trunk info. Just thought I’d mention,I have a trek as well BUT it’s a madone street bike(Lance Armstrong Special) it’s the same color,flat black with blue and white striping, he used in his #5 tour win that was thus Stripped. My touring bike is a an REI(Made by Giant) large frame and my third is a PEDEGO Trail Tracker E-Bike that’s absolutely KILLER with 4inch tires. It’s literally a 2 wheel Jeep😂. I have the Topeak MTS bike trunk on it. Would love to send you a picture of them all for ur comments on my choice of rides,but I’m not sure on how to send the photos other than a text OR email. So, bear with me while I list comments/questions:
    1. Once again, LOVE the video - entertaining AND informative, a double swish for us!
    2. AMTRAK - Did you get a roomette or did you suffer in just the seat? You said that you just rolled up and got to put your bike on as luggage, did you have to pay the $20 for that with a ressie or did you physically roll it up to the luggage car with no notice? This company confuses the crap out of me.
    3. You made me very nervous riding on some of those busy roads with no shoulder
    4. Did you follow the Adventure Cyclists maps or did you just reference them; BTW I love these maps!
    5. Last year, I walked over the bridge by the Sebastian Inlet State Park, thinking, there is NFW anyone would bicycle over this bridge with no shoulder, but there you are riding over with no problem, so maybe it is doable; or you're just a crazy bat!!
    6. How do you keep your bike safe when inside stores?
    7. My guess for your next adventure: KATY TRAIL!!
    8. Last thought: Maybe you could set up a group ride with some of you followers to do the Lehigh Gorge train/bike ride in Jim Thorpe, PA - THAT was a BLAST!!

      @RideAlongAdventures  Před rokem

      Hey, thanks, Amy. I appreciate the feedback. I find the video making process pretty easy when you've had a blast on the trip. Pardon the lengthy reply--probably more detail than you wanted.
      First, I'm going to have my house swept for "bugs" because--and you've actually done this before--you appear to be listening in and/or watching me...read more below.
      Re: Amtrak--yes, I did coach on the way down (18 hours) but tried a roomette on the way back (25 hours). The price for the sleeper is probably something I wouldn't do very often but it was sure nice. Wow. Good food also. Taking a shower at 70 mph was hilarious. I had ridden across Ft. Lauderdale in the am and i was a sweaty mess by the time I got onboard so the shower was awesome. i would have totally funked out the coach cabin.
      Yes, $20 for the bike reservation--I should have been more clear in the video. And this is where I think you're watching because JUST THIS MORNING I wrote a video script about "cycling and Amtrak" because so many people have commented that the process is really confusing. And I absolutely agree. The website info is confusing, the online ticket process is confusing. Anyway...I will be doing a video JUST FOR YOU :) on how to navigate the process. Stay tuned.
      Yeah, I'm not a big fan of road riding and, believe me, I was nervous on a few sections on this trip. I've got my head on a swivel ALL of the time. You can't see it in the video but I've got a rear view mirror on the side of my handlebars and I'm constantly checking it out. I bought new blinkers and I tried to wear bright of clothing, especially those bright arm sleeves to stand out. Now, having said that, I think I timed this trip well in terms of being about a week ahead of spring break. Traffic was not bad until i got to Ft. lauderdale and those streets were nuts.
      The ACA maps (I downloaded them with the Bike Route Navigator app, $11) tend to take you on back roads which are not as busy but I think it was a tradeoff at times--would you rather be on a quiet road with no bike lane or a road with a clear, wide bike lane but more traffic? I wasn't sure which was best at some points. The only angry driver I encountered was on a back road. He stopped to yell at me but I calmed him down after a few sentences. Fortunately, I really didn't encounter too many crazy drivers. Seems like people were pretty cool. For me, if more than one car gets stacked up, I just pull over, let them go by, wave at them and say thank you. I get waves rather than middle fingers. :)
      LOL--the Sebastian Inlet bridge didn't really stand out as particularly bad but there were definitely some bridges where I was nervous especially nearer to West Palm Beach. I think I said in the video, there were a few bridges that kept me awake at night wondering how I was going to get across, then I would get there and the bike lane was wide or there was a walkway. I skipped a bridge at Cape Canaveral and took the one at Cocoa Beach--i was told that was a smart choice. And that sort of thing just isn't a part of the mapping software so I looked at Google or even Waze to look at current conditions.
      I don't leave my bike by itself for too long if i go inside a store. I park it near to a window so i can keep an eye on it. But I rarely have issues. When I came out of a convenient store in Flagler Beach, there were a half dozen kids checking it out and they had a bunch of questions, mostly about the camera stuff. I threw out a few dad jokes in the process of giving them info and they quickly dispersed.
      ok, two more "is-amy-watching" moments: Early this morning, i was looking into the Katy Trail--I think I'm doing that in May. Secondly, another subscriber and I may be riding the Pine Creek trail in June and I was wondering last night if I ought to organize something more broadly and invite people from the channel. Seems like a lot of work and potential liability but it would be a helluva lotta fun to have a meet up and ride as a group. if you've got other thoughts, however detailed or not, I'd be interested in hearing more. I have been thinking about this--which you probably know from your surveillance. ;)
      Thanks for watching, Amy. I always appreciate the questions and feedback.
