I loved the explanation for the Burns Scholarship. Lisa explained it was a court ordered as punishment after he stole Christmas. Then she looks sad and says, "I miss Christmas."
There was the future where he owned a thriving weed farm and the future where he is a successful bike shop owner and artist. Most of his futures suck but not all of them. The one thing that is consistent is that he loves his family.
When this episode was made, 2013 was seen as still far enough to be the setting of a "life in the future" episode. Now, 2013 is closer to the episode than to the present day
