When I was little, i took a knife to the glowing wires. I snapped it. It made a spark and I liked it so i did it on the other side. I didnt get shocked or anything, just a pretty spark. We still have the toaster and no one knows why one side works. Only me. Lol.

I actually put a metal knife in the toaster when I was young (no protection, I was holding the knife with my bare hand). I will never forget the amount of electricity I felt through my hand.
Not possible if you weren't standing barefoot on a conductive grounded floor, or were holding your other hand on something grounded. WIthout a way to complete the circuit, no current can flow.

Actually I did it as a kid... mom walked in and while the toaster didn't shock me... SHE nearly KILLED me! BUT as I recall... she didn't explain WHY except to say "It could knock you across the room" which isn't exactly a DETERRENT for a 6 year old boy! (sounded more fun than the toast I was making)

Well, what we can say is that there was not 110v of electricity going through the hotdog since voltage is just a measurement of potential. The correct statement would be the current flow measured in Amps going through the hotdog. To calculate total power dissipated through the hotdog, we'd have to measure voltage across the hotdog and multiply that by the current. Secondly, the voltage difference when measuring across the different parts of the nichrome wire is effectively a voltage divider working much like a tap off from an autotransformer at different points. - Electronics Engineer

There is absolutely 110v "going through" the hotdog, otherwise you wouldn't be able to read a difference of potential at the opposite end of the hotdog to ground using the meter.

Voltage doesn't flow, current does. The reason you measure different voltages on different parts of the heating element is because it's actually a big voltage divider. Measuring the voltage from the end of the hotdog to earth doesn't really make sense to me. It only confirms that you would be touching live wire (depends on where you touch the heating element). What I think you wanted to do is measure the current flowing through the hotdog, but that would also not really make sense because a 15cm hotdog's resistance is by far different from the resistance of your body from hand to feet.
