  • If you’ve ever seen photos or videos where the images are made up of shades of red and yellow, that’s called thermography-more colloquially known as thermal imaging. Infrared thermography is the art of transforming infrared image into a radiometric one which allows the temperature values to be red from the image.
Thermal imaging is used in all sorts of different scenarios-utility and energy companies use it to see where a house might be losing heat through door and window cracks. Police helicopters use it to locate suspects at night. Weather stations use it to track storms and hurricanes. It’s used in the medical field to diagnose different disorders and diseases. And some home security cameras, like the ring doorbell use it too.
In recent times it is commonly used at airports to scan passengers who may have elevated temperatures as they walk through the airport.
This video details how thermal imaging work and some common applications

Thank you. I like that you distinguished thermal from one other invisible viewing frequency but it would have been nifty to mention both Near IR and amplified visible light and their common names.

5:30 i detest your omission of the term "wavelength" during your explanation of temperature-wavelength correlation. boo.
