I could not help but smile when you mentioned Danie Gerber. What a tragedy that the world never really saw him play. Ragarded by 90% of all Saffas, the best back line player in the history of Springbok rugby.😢😢😢😢

Having lived in Australia for 5 years (Melbourne and Perth) I can say without doubt that there will be more South African support in Perth than Brisbane, there are possibly more South Africans living in Perth than Australians!!! And after watching the game last week the thought that struck me was that they have taken some of the Irish ways of playing and added it to their already fearsome Bok style. They already had the skills to go with the hardness but they were awesome last week. There is a lot said about how Australia were woeful but nobody could have contended with that gameplan

I have been subscribed what feels like from your onset mate. South Africa is in my DNA even though Sydney was home for decades. Still enjoy your content as much as ever Tim. It's great to be a Bok supporter these days and I have been through very trying times with my compatriots and Bok teams through those dark days of 57-0 against our main rivals. Your attitude towards us is so refreshing and inspiring. Living in Oz and having to put up with a lot of disparaging and frankly shaming comments from some smug and superior sounding public pundits left me jaded and feeling ridiculedover the years. The sub text was very clear: South African's play dumb, unattractive and therefor unappealing rugby compared to the smart and astute Australians even as the Aussies have a habit of putting the Kiwi's on a pedestal. Finally these dynamic's are changing! not that I am in Schadenfreude around the struggling Aussies (well ok, just a little bit in the beginning) as everyone agrees a strong Wallaby side is so much better for world rugby.

As a bok fan living in Perth and going to watch this game live, I have to admit, I’m a bit nervous. The Aussies are going to come out blazing and my beloved Boks haven’t got a tried and tested team out at the whistle. So let’s not get to cocky boys otherwise we could be eating humble pie….which won’t be the first time.

Very challenging times for Australia though, and really hope they can turn things around. We all want a better Australia that’s for sure 🙏
One thing that may affect our dominance this weekend is the weather…..it’s nearly 100% rain so could be scrappy and play into the Aussie’s hands. We’ll see, looking forward to another great weekend of rugby!

I think your team split is fair, though I would have put
Valetini over Van Staden at 7
Koroibete over Mapimps at 14 (They both wingers, I know the numbers are different on the team sheet).
That would make it 6 vs 9 which is closer than a lot of Bok fans would like (myself included). Oz still scare me, they can stand up when they want. I remain a nervous wreck before every bok game.

Not sure if humble is the right word but get what you're saying. Think what it comes down is the answer to 2 questions...one, can Aus beat SA? Of course they can. Bounce of the ball, referee decision here, slip of a tackle there. Definitely possible. The game hasn't been played yet but 2, WILL THEY? Even with the sides pick, Rassie has some insurance on the bench. There is still 14 WC winners in the matchday squad. Aus has it all to do. Let's see if they will

I have to agree, the Boks of 2009 were perhaps a more complete side, but when you look at the sheer depth of talent available to Rassie now, I would argue that this is the healthiest ANY team has EVER been. Just look at the names of those who are unavailable at present; Jasper Wiese, Lood DeJager, Jean Kleyn, Steven Kitshoff, Damien Willemse, Andre Estherhuizen, Trevor Nyakane, Franco Mostert and RG Snyman, how many teams in world rugby could suffer that kind of attrition and still be competitive? Yet the Boks are being cavalier about making 10 changes in a week to field a side which must still be labeled as favorites... and in this team, there are only 2 debutantes.

  • @jamesnorbury7769
    @jamesnorbury7769 Před 27 dny +2

Never underestimate the Wallabies. They are naturally dogged and have a natural ability to force better teams into errors through many means. And boy can they niggle the opposition - especially new boys in the opposition. I don't think his will be a walkover at all.

Those with poor memories should read up on our history against Australia. It would arrogant for us Saffas to forget this and celebrate a victory before we’ve even run onto the field. Overconfidence is something to avoid and respect to our opposition is a must. Magnanimous, but humble in both victory and defeat, always. 🇿🇦🏉💪

Aus's only chance to beat us in some time. Would love to see a proper Oz team to compete. Rugby needs them to be strong! Same with Wales. It will take time - the problem is that rugby is a religion in South Africa whereas Aus does not have that luxury to tap into a proper talent pool. They need to focus on junior level rugby to create and nurture the love for the game. It is a culture thing that bubbles to the top. That's why NZ and SA are traditionally the strongest and will remain that way for some time I feel. Culture is not something that happens in a vacuum - it takes serious passion, time commitment and knowledge.

I’m proud that 3 of my fellow countrymen from Fiji Islands will be playing for Wallabies this week against SA; Marika Koroibete, Seru Uru and Valetini…these are 3 big muscular lads, 2 from my western side and 1 from interior island where they eat raw sharks 😮

I had to add a comment on the current hype going on , I can see why a lot of people getting excited by the Boks , the problem when you start saying things like , the best team, etc you’re looking for trouble and every time the Boks get hyped up they lose.
Are they a great team in the making , undoubtedly, do they have a hell of a lot of talent, undoubtedly, I don’t believe the team playing Saturday is any weaker than last week , Rassie is obviously building , if they beat Australia and the AB’s at in both games, then we are starting to look at something special in the making.
I would like to see a better performance and progress on a weekly basis and believe that’s what Rassie is looking for.
Can and should they beat Australia this weekend, definitely , will it be easy No.
Will be much closer, but should still be a win.
Are Australia better than last week, definitely , it’s about margins and handling the pressure , South Africa will put them under pressure for 80 minutes, how much pressure can they apply in the process will determine the result.
You have to make a statement though pressure against any opponent, I believe that is what the AB’s need and going to do.
Good luck to everyone this coming weekend, the team with the biggest hunger would prevail 😅😅

Is this the best shape South African rugby has ever been in? Best since professionalism, absolutely.
Best ever? Well, obviously due to Apartheid and in the immediate aftermath, we weren't developing black talent.
Fifty years ago, Siya, Cheslin, Bongi, Kurt-Lee, Ox and frigging Sacha would not have been noticed, scooped up and sharpened.
So while I am hesitant to say that this is the strongest shape Bok rugby has ever been in, one can certainly make a case for it.

Not sure we should be too confident about repeating the performance of last weekend. Continuity is out the door with the selections Rassie has made. Australia is wiley, Shmidt not a fool, wallabies can outsmart us and then we have a slow start and individuals try to do too much on their own. Besides, never like our odds when they hype comes, I prefer the reality of the contest.

Wallabies will win this one by 5
Last week seemed like there were a lot of unforced errors rather than systematic faltering.
They probably can't get worse than that and playing back to back dreadful games is kind of statistically improbable.
''Home'' ground advantage and consistent team selection will go a long way, as will the desire to prove a point.

I watched this here in Perth (fontein) as clouds move in from the ocean and there is a little bit of thunder around, a weird light on an overcast morning with over an inch of rain forecast today. Needless to say I will be there at the game tonight but the foreboding I described due to weather is a distant second to what I feel about the 80 minutes to be played later today......
