This was part of an autonomous flight planned with the Freeflight Test Flight feature. The drone started the planned 360 degrees at 50m altitude (from the takeoff, but from the ground it was about 53m) and after almost half of it, it just fell down like a stone.
This just happened above the church and cemetery of Torricella, Ticino, Switzerland. Some interference? Drone was hacked? Halloween mystical drone possession by some dead?
I was not too far away but the app showed "out of range". I configured a limit of 50m distance and 60m height. I already had autonomous flights out of this range and had no problems till today. I got just a red warning showing me that the drone was flying out of the range I set. This time unluckily the drone failed this flight plan. Battery level was still good (80%).
The drone hit the street with little stones to go to the cemetery. It was reversed. No considerable damages: battery scratched and two back motors a bit moved. May need to replace them with new ones in the future.
After finding the drone I switched it off, removed the battery, waited a few minutes. Inserted the battery again, turned it on, recalibrate it, did a takeoff and short test flight and could see that it still flies perfectly.
I was lucky. I will contact Parrot and send my full recording. I believe there this was caused by a software bug.
