Hang on, is labeling a full v2.0 firmware update. Did I miss the bigger feature? Don’t get me wrong definitely a useful feature and should have had it a while ago but it’s not really a tricky one to program for all the hype. Weird also that they wouldn’t give it too 10 and 11 for such an easy update.
The new Labs firmware, released the same day, allows you to create and share a named preset with a single QR code. Share presets with your audience more directly.
Doesn't the GP12 shoot noticeably cleaner video (in decent light of course) at 5.3K? I've seen many examples where 5.3K out of camera looks better than 4K.
I love max lens mode, BUT In horizon leveling while doing backfkips camera freaks out and changes the angle midair. With an update it is happening just a but smoother, but still instead of backflip I am getting backflip 360 or some other crazy rotations
I don't have a GoPro, but I loved hearing about your custom settings. Can you do a video with the X3 going through some of the same settings and why? Hopefully Insta360 will allow changing the custom settings name too.
Kayak fishing, here. That part of the update is great. The rest of it is ... bleh. This update suckered me into buying two Max Lens Mod 2.0s with the addition of a Linear setting. I had no idea that when enabling Max Lens 2.0 mode, you lose all 2.7k... and cannot shoot in HDR or Log with the only two available resolutions (1080p and 4k). Pretty disappointing. The Lens Mods are going back immediately. I simply have no use for them.
I was just about to ask if you ever shoot in 5.3K quality but you already answered that question as I am typing this… merry Christmas and I love your videos I wish I had a 12 but I’m happy with my 11
Just bought my first gopro, a 12. Almost immediately purchased an ace pro because the hero just is not acceptable in low light. I’m keeping it as a backup, but it’s riding the bench until my better camera runs out of batteries
Amazing... in the year 24 people are happy to be able to rename custom profiles on a camera which states to be leader in its class 😀hilarious... nevertheless I bought one, I am not sure what I find more annoying, big companys failing so hard at basic features, or (paid?) yt-ers who release as videos disguised commercials. No personal attack intended... but its really annoying imo !
Also if you had to film a long video, would you decrease your resolution from 4K to 2.3K to extend battery life? I don’t think you film in 2.7K quality anyway
Still so few options on max lens mode and only 60fps max. Such a letdown. Even a 90fps mode at 2.7k or even 1440p would be very welcome. Give us an option for high framerate. 60fps is the minimum I can use, the bare minimum, anything less is unusable.
Great video but I thought GoPro added back the GPS sensor to the Hero 12 Black through this firmware update...Anyway, they are not listening at all to customers since they took out the GPS without offering an alternative such as a GPS remote! These so called new features are just firmware upgrades not real improvements. Who makes a brand new camera in 2023 without GPS? It's a big step backwards. If they make another mistake like this I'm gonna look to the competition. Already waiting for a Max 2.0 but if it has no GPS functionality, I'll skip that too!
i got my first go pro and i went to use it this past weekend. i have alot to learn about this. i was indoor and i wanted to record my daughter's concert, well about 20 minutes into it, it over heated. the battery was hot as ell. so i had it on a tripod old school you can say mounted it to the bottom hole. i had a Samsung card that was recommended. i had hyper smooth off but 5.3k 30 frames and shooting wide. i was using my phone as a remote as well. oh and the battery dropped big time as well. strangly my smart phone took a video and did not kill the battery, are battery issues common with gopro. Like what is the longest a battery will work for?
I updated my go pro Hero 12 and watched the video more than once. When I tap on a custom preset I don’t get the Rename option (in blue) between Custom 1 and mode settings. What could I be doing wrong ?
Raw audio and wind Mode, you have wind off on some, auto on others, and I think I saw it off one or preset. Any reason? Any particular settings you suggest for motorcycle riding recording, mounted to my helmet. 24/30 or 60? And otherwise match match your settings or?
Have you got any recommendations for rigging out the iPhone 15 pro max, have you tried any cages or lens or maybe a way to get Log on an external SSD? Heaps of videos out there, but few comparisons. Tried the DJI Pocket 3 yet?

I carry the go3, acepro, and osmo pocket 3 just in case i need something. But i’d love to hear what cameras, mics, or whatever you have on your regular out and about days. I absolutely despise this about GoPro my drift HD ghost cameras do not do this. I get one file I can run the camera till the battery dies and I get one single file, I don't wanna film a continuous Christmas video and have it split into five pieces for me, especially under the auspice of doing it for my own good. that's just the giant excuse for the crappy software and GoPro cameras. and don't blame it on the video card because I can put one in my drift camera and it will give me one single file. It doesn't make choices or decisions for me like I'm some kind of a child who can't handle a file over 4 GB or the giant lie that they're protecting my videos that I'm taking by separating them in the little pieces in case my GoPro quits incredibly ridiculous excuse for having crappy software. My recommendation is get the ghost drift cameras. It's what I'll be purchasing from now on I use them for many years and since I switched to GoPro, I've had nothing but problems and issues and I'm really sick of it from the doors to the software, I have to use a popsicle stick to get that card in and out everything about the camera is crap. Sorry that's my opinion because I have other equipment that performs much better and doesn't make choices and decisions for me. I don't want I had to spend an hour stitching my Christmas videos back together yesterday.

Its the opposite you want your footage to be as the way it was .plus how dropping 6 frames will make things cinematic. It's stupid. High shutter speed with 24fps = stuttering footage
24fps is worth it to get more bitrate. If you have, for example, 120 mbps bitrate for 30fps, then you mbps per frame is 4. If 24fps - it is 5. Not a huge deal, but footage looks basically the same comparing fps, while keeping the bitrate up a little helps in post. *foreseeing your raging agro comment about shutterspeed. Everybody uses ND filter to prevent super high shutter speeds + you can go 48 fps to close the shutter and still get nice motion blur Also with shutter speed 1/48 blur is better than 1/60 so that'a one more reason to choose 24fps, but I am not sure if gopro offers 1/48
@TodayWeRideGlobal another stupid answer. I have a camera that film in 720 mbps in 4k .zero difference in video quality compared to 100mbps. And gopro stabilisation depends on high shutter speed .if you drop it down. The footage will be really shaky .

Reducing ev, means a faster shutter speed which will be compensated with a higher iso so more noise. No, thanks

Hi res drains battery faster and causes overheating. Lower your resolution more and turn off the GoPro intermittently so it cools down

Confused. Will a video filmed in 8:7 4k cropped to 16:9 have less quality than a 16:9 4k video? Just want to be sure to avoid that if so haha
Should be basically the same since it's a crop either way. The 8:7 just gives you more flexibility with composing.
