  • Bionic Woman (2007 TV series)
    Bionic Woman is an American science fiction television drama that aired in 2007, which was created by David Eick, under NBC Universal Television Group, GEP Productions, and David Eick Productions. The series was a re-imagining of the original television series, The Bionic Woman, created by Kenneth Johnson, which in turn was based upon the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin and its TV adaptation The Six Million Dollar Man, retaining its forebears' premise while taking on a more contemporary setting. David Eick also serves as executive producer alongside Laeta Kalogridis and Jason Smilovic. Production of the series was halted due to a strike by the Writers Guild of America causing only eight episodes to be aired. Following its failure to be included in the Fall 2008 schedule it was announced that the series was canceled as the result of low ratings.
    The series revolved around bartender Jaime Sommers, who is saved from death after receiving experimental medical implants. While adjusting to her new android powers and raising a rebellious younger sister, Jaime agrees to work for the Berkut Group, a quasi-governmental private organization that performed her surgery.

    You can not try to remake the bionic movies without the sound effect with it. That’s why the making of the bionic woman failed to make a hit on the big screen. WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING? For me it’s all about the sound and strength.

      True indeed. Remember when we were kids, making the bionic-on-the-motion sound effect while running and jumping was really the thing to do back then....and still it does

    The Series was broadcasted the year later in France (July 2008)on Sundays afternoon but I didn't watch it.
    I saw Eastenders Episodes and I realized later that it was Ryan who played the character months ago because I didn't know her at the period .Ferrer took back his Manager role for cybernetic project 20 years after Robocop .Lol .
    Its too bad the show was cancelled after 8 Episodes .The rate was low ,but I think Ryan played well and as a British Actress, she could have success in Hollywood .

    How special effects have advanced in Hollywood, the series or movie about the bionic woman or the nuclear man (here in Latin America it is called that) should be very good but I think that the script or the actress who did not convince the audience failed, I hope they return it do with a better script

    I am and was a fan of the original series with Lindsay Wagner. But I have to say, when I saw this remakes pilot, I was greatly disappointed. I really hated the special effects used to make Jamie appear to be running faster than a train, or jumping more than 3 stories. They just seemed to me to be too cheap looking, and not done very well.

  • @madmatmp
    @madmatmp Před 3 lety +6

    I liked this show. I read some comments that are interesting, but simply put, the show was very solid. 2 things stand out that had the negative impact. 1. Hollywood could never understand a woman as a lead in an action drama. We have been spoon fed as to who does what since film began. The original bionic woman was never an independent show and always involved cameos from the 6 million dollar man, (great show). I remember when this newer version aired. It was the first real attempt at this particular genre and it was good. But like all breakthroughs it was always seen as just an oddity by the moneymen. It was never going to get a fair crack at the whip and in spite of good reviews and good reasonable ratings, the show was cancelled. It was Japan and South Korea who maintained and led the way with strong female leads and they alone helped shape and modify people’s perceptions. Tarantino continued to push the boundaries with Kill Bill and the exceptional Let The Right One In by Alfredson. Note worthy was the watered down American version which actually placed the protagonist as more pliable and increased the screen time of her cohort, the boy. Typical Hollywood and the brilliant Reeves, one of the most independent film makers was asked to Direct. Why he did this is anyone’s guess. So now we have the super hero genre and Larson should be ever great full for the likes of Michelle Ryan, who paved the way without even a faint whisker of appreciation. She did a great job and I still think it ranks higher than anything to date, with the exception of Lina Leandersson’s Eli. I’ve just noticed on IMDb which has placed this actress as 2nd billing to her co star. Wasn’t she the lead in this movie. Wow, you just couldn’t make it up.

    This remake missed the mark. Her sister in the show was annoying rather than enhancing the BW character, like Steve's parents (Hellen and Jim) did in the original series. The casting was wrong, I actually thought Katie S. who played Sarah in this series as the 1st BW, was better than Michelle Ryan's Jamie character. They should have cast her in the main role. She was edgier and could have brought more to the series as the lead.

    Looking back, The Bionic Woman was poorly scripted, had no identity and was, in comparison to other network offerings at the time of release, unexceptional. It didnt find an audience due to difficulties in deciding whether the production was targeted to a science fiction setting, mainstream tv drama or fantasy/escapism.
    I do not place any of that criticism on Michelle Ryan as she was cast and directed to play an understated lead role which attempted in vain to implant uniqueness into the heart of the conventional and domestic.
    On a 2020 re-watch, it actually stacks up pretty well: enough action to keep an interest, decent art direction, some solid production values, a few emotional snippettes.
    What a shame that The Bionic Woman didnt place a bit more focus on character development, tighter direction and, ultimately, a bigger budget investment with in your face publicity.
    Well done Michelle Ryan, you were given a tough gig here and it was NOT a total disaster

    This show failed for two reasons: 1) poor advertising. I watch for literally every tv show and movie that comes out and never heard of this show until I looked up Lucy Hale's acting history. 2) It failed because they didn't make Lucy Hale the bionic woman.
