Cherie, I love your spirit! Your son Dave is telling stories about you at yard sales and your hearing aids being blue toothed to your phone, so I just thought I'd tell you how amazing a woman I think you are. You are totally involved in life! And it's obvious that you adore your family and they adore you and each other. Congratulations!
Mother's Day week is always terrible, year over year, so I agree with the calendar guy. Also- there was a good chunk of the country that's having terrible weather lately. Big storms, flooding, tornadoes- people aren't shopping when they don't have power or they're dealing with storm damage.
I gotta say…you guys kill me! If I need a good laugh, I know all I need to do is watch an episode of trash to cash. I’m trying to learn as much of I can about reselling so I can succeed but basically I just love listening to you 3. Keep it going Bruh! 😎✌️😉
Your knife story on Mercari made me think of something. Shortly after 2011, when they started cracking down on what you could carry through TSA, I flew somewhere and they took away my cuticle scissors. There was a Burger King near the gate so as we sat down to eat, I noticed all their plastic cutlery and thought if you had a handful of plastic serrated knives, I know they would break if you probably stabbed someone but you could slit a lot of throats before they got you.
I appreciate the discussion about selling items on Whatnot vs. Ebay. We are slowly moving towards a heavier Whatnot vs. less on ebay strategy, which is challenging for those of us stuck in our old ways. :) It's going. Sometimes folks get some amazing deals but then sometimes you sell a Blu-Ray or something for way more than eBay prices--it all works out!
I agree with the person who made the observation that May has a drop around Mother's Day/graduation time. I see it as well every year both in my reselling and in my full time job. Sales are back up as expected. And I expect another dip in the middle of June because of school end of year/high school graduations before they return to normal again. People's attention and focus goes momentarily to those events. What matters isn't the day to day in sales, but the overall number for a given period such as the month or quarter.
The calendar idea is good. I worked in a lot of restaurants for a while and they would craft the schedule to previous years totals. In another instance the company I was an office manager for had a retail store and they kept a daily/yearly/dawn of time report and it kept the bosses from going fully insane when sales shit the bed.
My sales were also terrible last week. It just makes me wonder if there’s not something going on in the background with eBay for everyone to be having such slow or sporadic sales
If that’s how ebay price match works, what will stop a buyer that’s also a seller buy an item at a certain price point and having his buddy post a listing for the same item at a lower price point and ask for the price match from the seller?
My theory for why pocket knives are banned on Mercari is because pocket knives are banned in Japan. Mercari is owned by a Japanese company, thus their country's laws carry over to Mercari.
To follow up on Kevin saying not to mail during summer (candles) mail / ship on Mondays, and they should not be in a hot truck over the weekend, its like shipping Chocolates.
1:11:42 I have noticed that size is more important than weight on Ground advantage. 2” on each side for shipping is what USPS says they REQUIRE to give a refund for a broken item. 😂
Here’s a scenario for discussion! Last month I searched for a particular Mickey mug. The one I wanted was listed for $18.99 and I offered 12. They countered 16.99. I didn’t respond. The next day I went back to the one I put the off in and below the listing ebay listed other same item listing and the same mug was 2 mugs for the $16.99 plus the same shipping! Of course I bought the 2 for 1
Of course eBay are changing the business model to suit buyers. Plus kicking back bragging about 300% profit is the past. Expect plenty of new new sellers pumping out items for under 100% profit to undercut the listing prices.. people are hungry out here
I was doing great in April may then it suddenly hit a wall this week - and Dave you need to schedule your listings so you have things go live every day - I have ADHD and that is the only way to fly !!
Hi, everybody's competing for market share and the sellers on eBay are all competing against each other. As a business owner and seller on eBay I'm always striving to purchase items to resell at the lowest price possible. I'm constantly looking for lower cost on shipping supplies. Offering the best price, best service and I think those that will do the best have those cool unique items that you can't find anywhere else besides eBay. Those that sell on eBay that have items you can find on places like Amazon will continue to struggle unless they offer better pricing and better service. I just ordered a new battery for my DJI camera and I ordered it on eBay. It was slightly cheaper on eBay, Free shipping, and it is going to get here faster than Amazon surprisingly.
The problem with the best offer concept if selling vintage items is the fact that condition is an important part of pricing. I have had people who question a price because there is another much cheaper listed. Of course when I look for this cheaper item it is in fair condition when mine is excellent. And why would they be asking about my item if there is one cheaper??? They want an excellent one for price of a fair one. Dave is right just say no unless you are selling new merchandise then you gotta play the game. This best offer is something buyers will use against sellers.
@@ebayvideo6383 I wasn't referencing the best offer option but I do use it with my higher priced items. I don't encounter the issue you brought up that much. However when accepting offers or declining its all dependent upon what I purchased the item for and the profit margin. As far as looking up the items that they're talking about it's a waste of my time in my opinion. I resell on eBay full time and moving items while making a profit is more important to me.
The market is always changing for any item you sell some items are more volitile than others BUT sellers should always consider what they are into an item for. How much you are into an item vs how much the market (previous solds) says an item is worth determines if you can accept an offer, use markdown sales, coupons, etc. Your buy cost is a huge part of the equation.
Call me John. We can talk about it. I think of it like owning a stock. Do you only sell a stock when it is up? Sometimes you cut bait on a bad stock to invest in a winner.
@@trashtocashpodcast I agree in cutting bait on a bad item. I think I spoke to this in our podcast (Profit Playbook Podcast). Big stores like Walmart cut bait on clearance items all the time, take a loss to recoup what they can to reinvest in the newer merchandise. I agree with this concept. I believe in churning items out but I also believe before you cut bait however you give the item some time to sell at the market price. When it comes to your newly listed stuff your buy cost has a huge influence over what you are able to do to get the sale (offers, coupons, markdowns etc). If you paid too much for an item as compared to the actual market price you will be limited in what you can offer. If you promise to answer I will call ya…
It's true, post-mortem pictures do sell well and for good money, especially if their around the 1800s(victorian era). Some can go for hundreds. Victorians were strange people, they would photograph their dead children.
reminds me of the first and last time i ever brought my husband to the flea market about 10 years ago. i was down one of vendor aisles and he's at the other end and has something in his hand and he goes 'HEATHER, YOU SHOULD BUY THIS. U CAN MAKE A LOT OF MONEY ON EBAY"....cringe. and he's not a reseller and the thing he had was trash so YADDA YADDA YADDA he's banned from going to the flea market with me again
@56:45 Kevin starts listing all the ol fogy listings… rofl. A typewriter?! Come on! Who knows… maybes hes on to something if the client cant use it that long anyways - score again in a couple years when the have their estate sale 😂
How do you know if your sales are from viewers or not? I do know that I have sold the same exact item as you guys have and not gotten near the price y'all did which tells me it's viewer sales, because if it wasn't they wouldn't pay the higher prices.
There are many factors that determine price. People don’t always pick the lowest price. Titles pics shipping price shipping service condition feedback number of sales and many more things. I know from messages left and repeat buyers.
No one going to even bother to mention the fact that eBay search results are sabotaging their company???? 4 times last month I got on eBay and the search results were so bad I just went to Amazon. 4 lost eBay sales. TALK ABOUT THAT
I've been watching Kevin for 3 years and Dave 2 years. I WATCH BECAUSE I use to go to 10-14 goodwills a day and my eBay sales on the high were 10-12k a month BUT average monthly was $6800-$8000. There is NOT MUCH I haven't seen ESPECIALLY watching Kevin picking. I would love to be a guest on the show as I have a lot of knowledge stories etc since I did this 10-13 years ago. My son who works for GoodWill says they are in competition with eBay. Now, GoodWill is a hybrid business. The goods are all donated. They get a tax break because they are selling to people who can't afford buying anywhere else. Those people can't afford GoodWill's prices anymore because of GWs profit margin. So, should GoodWill get their tax break for selling free goods at low prices?
Goodwill gets the tax break because of their mission with regards to employment. I know people who have gotten jobs and training through Goodwill programs. Goodwill's mission was never to supply cheap goods to resellers.
