傳統木雕牌匾的製作
「牌匾」是華人的非物質文化遺產之一，也是本地華人傳統木工技藝中，重要的一門傳統工藝。一塊木雕牌匾共結合了書法、篆刻、木工、木刻、髹漆安金等傳統技藝在內，可說是美學、工藝和風俗的結合。
傳統上，本地華人喜歡懸掛牌匾，不僅是作為家族姓氏的標誌，能光耀門楣；在店鋪也是做為招攬生意的金字招牌。在傳統禮俗上，親友間也會致贈牌匾來祝賀新居落成、喬遷誌喜、新張事業等值得紀念的重要時刻。在廟裡，信徒也甚至會為答謝神恩，而選擇重金打造牌匾還願，以彰顯神威。
一方牌匾的製作共需歷經補土、打底、描稿、雕刻、打磨、油漆、安金等多道程序才能完成。在如今講求高產效率的時代，慢工細活的手工雕刻牌匾也就愈加顯得珍貴了。

The Making Of Traditional Signboard
Traditional wood signboard is one of the key intangible cultural heritage for the local Chinese community. The craft itself is also an important skill among the local Chinese woodworkers.
A traditional signboard combines many traditional skills and art forms in it, such as calligraphy, seal engraving, woodworking, wood carving, painting and gold gilding. It can also be said that it is an intangible heritage that combines aesthetics, craftsmanship and customs.
As part of the traditions, local Chinese like to hang plaques as a symbol of the family name that will bring glory to the clan. However, it is also believed that hanging a gold gilded plaque at the shop is a guarantee of quality which will attract potential business opportunities. In traditional etiquette and customs, relatives and friends will also give plaques to homeowners or business owners as a congratulatory memento for a new house, new business and other memorable occasions. In the temple, devotees will even choose to order a plaque which costs a considerable sum to express their gratitude to the gods.
The making of a single plaque requires multiple procedures such as filling holes, application of primer, sketching, carving, sanding, painting and gold gilding. In modern days, meticulous attention to details through the handworks is even more appreciated above all else.
