That Nina one is crazy! She looks amazing in the original photo (in my opinion she's one of the most beautiful celebrities out there) and she doesn't even look recognizable in the edited one, wtf
Thank you so much for making videos like this. Last year I had some struggles and was starving myself because my body image was so bad. I’ve since been in recovery and reminding myself that what people post isn’t real has helped a lot.

Just saying the Gwen one is in an article, so let's remember it's very unlikely she was involved in the photo selection/editing process. That's on the media outlet for choosing an edited pic with a full face of makeup to go with content about her complexion.
She did have to allow this tho, and she got paid for it I'm sure
@Jlove she did not have to allow it and it's very unlikely that she got paid for it. Unless it was a photo shoot specifically for that outlet (and given who it was, unlikely). But that's still not really how it works.
She may not have ever even spoken with the outlet (they can pull quotes from other articles and license photos). Even if she did an interview with them, it is very unlikely she would have seen anything (article or pics) before it was published or had any say in "approval."
Her publicist will keep an eye out for just about everything that comes up, and if they take issue with something (and deem it worth pursuing), can reach out to the outlet to ask for changes. But not everything is worth chasing down.
That's a long way of saying the subject of the pic/content very rarely has the most control of the output when it isn't their own accounts or site.

Exactly! They're like: "She credits suncare and hydration for her perfect skin, let's laugh at her!" My guy, YOU edited the picture all too hell. You asked her about her skincare routine (or pulled quotes from other interviews), then posted the quote next to your photoshop bait.
omfg Khloes shoulder pointing toward the camera is just... COMPLETELY flattened like... she edited out that she has a scapula???? I'm so uncomfy looking at that photo
also with the eyes, if you can't see that lil pink meat in the inner corner, it's prolly retouched, especially if they're looking at the camera at an angle ❤
I almost pity them, they are selling an image of beauty they can't even achieve but I am still surprised when I see aggressive photoshop in high fashion magazines, I thought we evolved past that. Every month, I'm reviewing on my channel the best and worst covers, and a lot of the time, it is too much photoshop that ruins a photo. In the May cover for Harper's Bazaar España, the mistakes you bring up are present; the over-whitened sclera of the eye, the blurring of the nasolabial folds.

in Cloe's pic, it is interesting how the shape of her shadow does not match the shape of her body. and that arm, looks like her muscle was eaten completely away under the skin because they pushed in her upper body so much. also, it looks to me like the door had to be erased after they pulled kylie's pelvic area over to make the butt look bigger. No one's pelvis is shaped like that. the widest part of the "hips" is usually the greater trochanter of the femur, but her widest part in this photo appears to be the iliac spine. it's also causing an appearance of supination of the forearm proximally with simultaneous pronation distally. unless you have a fracture, your forearm should not do this.
Jessica, you are a treasure! I have no interest in doing photography (or IG "culture"... or celebrities...😅) whatsoever, but your attitude, your compassion simply shines through in every video. I hope life will always treat you well!

so I think a lot of these aren't edited on photoshop where you can liquify things very stealthily but done on phone apps, where there is usually just a slider to slim and tweak features and will often warp the background as well, that is probably why there are weird anomalies with the background doors and stuff, or maybe there was litter or something there they lazily got rid of with these phone apps!
Nina made herself thinner, but the before with the slightly wider face is much more flattering for her
As for the KarJen family in particular, a lot of people think it's an equal mix of body dysmorphia and wanting attention. Badly edited pictures get comments and reposts and discussion.

I literally scrolled through the comments to see if anyone posted what products you used on your skin! It’s gorgeous!!!

The most I ever like to edit on portraits of people is if they had a few blemishes because usually blemishes go away with time. Although I've had to do some photoshop jobs back in the day like adding more people to a group photo. In one case I remember the persons photo didn't have a full body or enough of the person to fit next to the others correctly proportioned and I had to google and photoshop pants on them to make it look like they were in the photo originally. 🤣
Re Gwen- I saw her live a couple of weeks ago and she really does look amazing. Not denying photoshop on the photo here, but irl she’s near a damn it, and no need for photoshop to be used on her. It’s insulting that someone would photoshop her.

The ones of Nina Dobrev are two different pictures 😂 I have no doubt they were both edited, but it’s not the same photo.. I think the one on the left that she posted to Insta was when she finished getting ready and the other one was on the red carpet.. of course they look different 😂

I had a thought… you think now it’d be possible to put the person on a separate layer and use ps generative fill to fill in the background and then place the edited person on top so the background isn’t warped?

I look bavk at my own old pictures from when I had an Instagram and they are so bad. I overly edited them to try to look like the celebrities on IG. I dont know what I was ever thinking and I am so glad I dont have social media aside from twitter any more. Its so freeing to not feel pressured to look perfect or to look at milliions of unattainable pictures that are made to make people feel jealous and question our own appearances. Ugh. I have been free from social media for 3 years and it has done wonders for me, I dont have anxiety about the way I look and I dont have to pay for facetune any more. I think everyone should get rid of it and just free themselves.
i dont think little retouching is bad, like whiting the eyes, or getting some fly aways but many of these feel like they just take a blur tool and just go ham and they look bad.

I bet you anything the door was just an accident when they were using the clone tool like they accidentally swiped across or tapped something without realizing. I’ve literally done that before it’s so easy to miss bc that’s not where your eyes are focusing

I want to know who is editing these photos and if I can have their job. Even on gimp, I know how to erase the background of the image I manipulated and overlay the edited image onto the old background so that nothing looks warped or blurry that shouldn't be. With photoshop and CC I could be unstoppable 😂
Just imagine being so obsessed with altering your photos that you feel the need to edit even your hair. I was having bad days because my acne at times and I was editing my photos too, not so bad though, but lately I don't care. My face is just the way it is and I am happy with it, same goes to my body. This is just ridiculous. No one should believe these bodies and faces are real.

The photo with the black outfit at around 5:00 is really off. They made the shoulders and arms so small, not even an anorexic child has shoulders like that. I dont get why you would deform a photo beyond any reasonable anatomy. Someone did that to a photo of me without asking me. I immidiatly noticed, because I know what a real arm looks like. It makes me so sad seeing other people push their body dismorphia on others.

Wait. Maybe those weird obvious edits that are doors that don`t even touch the people are for engagement? People point out the obvious edit on the door which is not bad because every comment is a good one if youu ask the algorythm. It could also distract people from looking too close at the person and what potentially is edited there?
The door was probably a generative fill. I tried it a bunch recently and PS sometimes gives half doors/half pens/half stack of papers lol
This is why I don’t edit out stray hair, age lines or smile lines.

My stupid cell phone camera app automatically blurs faces. I've turned it down as far as it will go but it still does it. I genuinely hate it! If I want to edit my photos fine, but I don't like an app picking what they think is wrong with my face.

I really hope Gen Alpha changes the way social media is used. The idea to live up to an “image” on social media is a joke. Filters are going and fake photos are going to be a something people laugh at people for in the future. The way millennials cringe at themselves for post 1000 random party photos…. People that have turned their social media into a “catalog” and trying to live their “best lives” when none of it is real is going to be beyond cringe in the future.

Nina Dobrev' left picture is definitely also retouched. She doesn't look like that in reality. At all.
To me it looks as though they let a professional take and retouch the picture and then they receive the pictures and edit them with an app to liquify their bodies to an abnormal extent. I don’t think any photographer in his right mind would make those mistakes with the liquifying tool in photoshop 😂
