s02e08: And That's the End of It. There's Nothing Else
Molloy questions the fiery fallout of Louis and Claudia's trial.
Based on Anne Rice's iconic novel, follow Louis de Pointe's epic story of love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to the journalist Daniel Molloy.
Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, or simply Interview with the Vampire, is an American gothic horror television series created by Rolin Jones for AMC, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Anne Rice. The series follows the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) who recounts his life with his maker Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and teenage vampire Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles) to veteran journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), accompanied by ancient vampire Armand (Assad Zaman). The series embraces the homosexual elements of Rice's work, which are only insinuated in the 1994 film adaptation of the novel. It is the first television series in Rice's Immortal Universe.
Interview with the Vampire received a series order in June 2021, after AMC Networks had purchased the rights to intellectual property encompassing 18 of Rice's novels, primarily The Vampire Chronicles, in 2020. The series was renewed for an eight-episode second season in September 2022, ahead of the premiere of its first season on October 2, 2022.
The first season received critical acclaim, with praise going towards the writing, tone, costumes, soundtrack, production values, performances (particularly those of Anderson and Reid), and chemistry between the two actors.
Adapted from Anne Rice's 1976 gothic horror novel Interview with the Vampire, the series centers on the life story of vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. An affluent black man in 1910s New Orleans, Louis is romanced and later made a vampire by the charismatic Lestat de Lioncourt. But the price of immortality is steep, and the relationship between Louis and Lestat is further complicated by the introduction of Lestat's newest fledgling, the teenage vampire Claudia.
Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac
Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt
    Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy
Bailey Bass (season 1)[a] and Delainey Hayles (season 2)[6] as Claudia
    Assad Zaman as Rashid/Armand[b]
Ben Daniels as Santiago (season 2)[7]
    Recurring
Kalyne Coleman as Grace de Pointe du Lac, Louis's sister[8]
Rae Dawn Chong as Florence de Pointe du Lac, Louis's mother
Chris Stack as Thomas "Tom" Anderson, the owner of the Fair Play Saloon, an upscale brothel
Christian Robinson as Levi Freniere, Grace's new husband[9]
John DiMaggio as Alderman Fenwick, a businessman looking to take advantage of Louis
Jeff Pope as Finn O'Shea, one of Louis's enforcers
Dana Gourrier as Bricktop Williams, a prostitute who works for Louis
Maura Grace Athari as Antoinette, a blues singer who becomes romantically involved with Lestat[10]

As a reader of the original series, the changes to the story in this TV show actually turned out to be a brilliant idea... it allowed them to show the conflicting versions from both Louis' original version and the retold Lestat version in "The Vampire Lestat" without having to rehash it later. In addition, it gives the characters more of their actual characterizations from the later books that weren't as developed in IwtV. Armand in the books absolutely portrays himself as the wanting, needing of love and affection, while actually being a manipulative jerk and this series nailed it. Also, Sam Reid is amazing as Lestat... the mannerisms, laugh, walk has the perfect air of self-involved nonchalance.

    • @la_beatrice
      @la_beatrice Před 24 dny

Yes. I think that for all the surface level changes, like period, race and the consequences of those changes, it was surprisingly faithful to the original. Where it changed, it was mostly for the better: show Louis is awesome in a way I never expected, he's such a step up from book Louis, not to mention the quite boring Brad Pitt Louis. The show became my favorite version of this story - though, to be fair, I was never a huge Anne Rice fan. I liked the first book, tolerated the next two and couldn't stand anything else, so I'm certainly not as protective of her original work as fans of those books are.
Also right with you with Armand, he's absolutely not worse than the others, but he is such a petty, needy little sh*t, isn't he? And that is not me hating him, I kinda love that he is what he is 😂. He's not worse than Louis and Lestat, just far more punchable 😂😂😂

At the end of the interview session, I think Louis and Armand were planning on either killing or forcibly turning Daniel. They said something like that they had something special for him at the dinner. Raglan James mentioned that there were four other people who attempted to do what he did, and they were all dead or undead.
I'm sure Real Rashid ran the hell out of there as soon as he delivered those scripts to Malloy. His cover was blown.
The very end where Louis challenges the vampires to come for him was less about swagger or trying to be threatening, but it was more about Louis finally completely owning his vampire nature.
I think Armand let Louis out of the coffin so that Louis would destroy the coven. Armand probably wanted out of the coven, so he used Louis rage as a weapon to destroy them.

Louis' John Wick moment was amazing!
Completely hysterical how Louis and Armand's relationship was based on getting back at Lestat, seeing that kiss was a punch to the gut for him.
Louis' and Lestat's reunion is so beautiful, mainly because it's not even about their romance necessarily, but about the grief of losing their child; after all, Claudia's character is based on Anne Rice's deceased daughter, who passed away by leukaemia at the age of 5 years old, so her existence itself is a way for the author to deal with her grief. And how beautifully they adapted it in the show.
Also, Armand's being Daniel's maker is something everyone should be excited about, their dynamic in the book is crazy and I'm sure it'll only get crazier in the show. Rockstar Lestat here we go!

  • @AnxietyRat
    @AnxietyRat Před měsícem +9

Yeah, the reason why he isn't with Lestat in Dubai at the very end is basically because Lestat and Louis have an on-and-off relationship within the books... For like a really long time. They finally get together again permanently in book 12, from book readers have told me. So if we get enough seasons to fully tell all of the stories of all of the books... They're going to have an off and on relationship for a really long time until almost to the end of the show, probably, but they ARE endgame and they do end up together at the end and that's an important detail! To me, anyways.
Louis is just going to be on his own for a little bit, probably. And he said as much in the reunion in this episode. He says he is a companion enough for himself at this point. Meaning that he's going to just be by himself for a bit after two very toxic relationships back to back. lmao.
Within the books Louis fades into the background after this book because Anne Rice falls in love with Lestat and essentially doesn't want to write in Louis' perspective anymore... And considering that Louis is a reflection of Anne's own grief I guess I can kind of understand why she would want to take a step back from him because it took her a good couple of years(8 i think) to write the sequel to interview with a vampire... so she is distanced from that grief that she originally felt when creating Louie... but the showrunner has said that they're NOT going to do that in the show... Louis is going to be a co-lead... Whereas in the books Lestat very much becomes the main character and you really don't see Louis very much. So yeah, it's going to be REALLY interesting to see where they take Louis' character in the show because it's going to be VERY different from what happens to his character in the book.
And yes, as others have said, you absolutely can watch the movie now! Season 1 and 2 tell the complete story of the first book which is what the movie is based off of.

Hopefully they don't pull a Riverdale with this series, the first 2 seasons are so good, I pray that the 3rd season doesn't turn into some circus shit

@@giragod9373 it’s in the Vampire Lestat book. I think what will happen is S3 Daniel will Interview Lestat and get his perspective and it’ll show the beginning stage and rise of fame from him being a rockstar and once Daniel gets done interviewing Lestat I think the end of S3 will have Akasha rising from the dead and it’ll set up for S4 for Akasha to be the main villain and Lestat had to find a way to get her powers to save Louis from her and every other ancient vampire but that stuff will be in S4. One speculation on when Daniel might have been turned was some time prior to Daniel revealing the Truth. I only suspect this because Armand is shocked that Daniel is revealing everything. Also, Louis is telling Armand to stay away from Daniel since in the Lore, Makers can always find their fledglings.

Armand and Lestat hated that she'd get in-between there relationship to pull him back to himself and they made it clear. Lestat still loved her because she was his daughter but he hated how shed pull Louis back into himself so he wouldn't be so blinded by his love for Lestat then for his love for Armand.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't want Louis and Lestat to get back together right away. Louis has jumped from one toxic relationship to another and so much of who he is as a vampire has been defined by those relationships and moulded by his partners, often against his will. I feel like he needs to be by himself for a while, live for himself and figure out who he is without someone else defining it for him. He needs to heal and find his self-worth before he can be in a healthy relationship with anyone.
