Wow, I'm glad I came across this video. I was literally just getting ready to buy a used 2020 C8, but watching your video led me to do more research on the transmission issue that the C8 has, and now I feel like it would just be to big of a gamble to take. I've really wanted this car since it came out, but it looks like I'll just have to wait for a while until they sort this transmission issue out. Great content btw!
10/4, you welcome. A lot of the issues have been addressed. But to be safe get a 2025 or 2026. TFTC!!✌🏾
We picked up our 2023 3LT HTC NON-Z51 with magnetic ride, front lift, performance exhaust, and carbon Flash painted wheels, low spoiler, top, nacelles, and other trim pieces. We picked it up 08/10/22 and put 2,205 miles on it before parking it for the winter due to my emergency hip surgery late October. We love the car although we didn’t get a half mile from the dealership when the engine compartment overheated warning popped up. It was just a loose connection on a sensor, I contacted Dennis Fichtner and got an extended warranty right away. Car had 5 miles on it when we picked it up, I want to have my 7,500 mile service this summer. It’s sometimes good to be a 75 yo semi retired old fart with the best vehicle I have ever driven. Great video, keep it up.
Nice! I like how you went all out on your options. I did the same thing too. I didn’t want any buyers remorse. But I wish I would have gotten the HTC!! And hell you can get the fluids changed on the car as often as you like. It’s definitely not going to hurt anything. Just saying. Thanks for sharing!✌🏾
Great Video Thanks 😊
Thanks!!✌🏾
Hey Gary, Joe Lamb here. Looking forward to meeting you at the Bash next month✌🏽
10/4, sounds good!✌🏾
GW. Glad you got your whip back. You mentioned your extended warranty. Did you have to use the extended warranty, why didn’t the manufacturers warranty cover?
Because I have a 2021 and the 3 year bumper to bumper manufacturer warranty expired. TFTC!✌🏾
My daughter had to have her '23 C8 transmission replaced 2 days (50 miles) after delivery. Chevy has a design issue with their transmissions period. They should provide customers with extended warranty on C8 transmissions. The only thing GM offered was a free maintenance for 3 years.
I am a BMW guy (M5 Comp) and never had any issues with drivetrans over 30 years of buying BMWs. I told her to get a M4 but she didn't listening to her old man. 🥺
Dang! I’m sorry that happened to you guys. You definitely got one of the bad ones. Only 2 days on 50 miles on it! That is just ridiculous. No excuse for that! But I have seen some C8’s with no problems as well. It really sucks that our kids just have to learn the hard way. I don’t get it either. 🤷TFTC!✌🏾
@@Sytyvette1 Yeah, it sucked; however, she is enjoying her C8 now. ☺
I have a G80 M3, a 992 tt and a C8 on order....If you have been a BMW guy for awhile you would know of the E46 M3 rod failures and recalls, the E60 M5 issues and on and on let alone Porsches issues with IMS. GM ius learning and the first DCT they ever made has teething issues.
@@Jon-ug3le That is correct regarding E60 M5 and and E46 M3 and never brought either cars. However, I did get burned with BMW's first twin turbo V8 N63 engine (2010 550i). BMW actually brought back the car and provided me a 2014 550i. I doubt GM will ever do that for a customer.
The fact that the C8 has been out for 3 years (my daughter's car is a 2023 LT3) you would think GM would have addressed the problem. Also, I never heard of BMW transmissions needing replacing on a 2 day old car with 50 miles and hearing so many stories about C8 trannys. E46s and E60s issues usually happens late in the vehicle's life.
I agreed with you about getting new cars with new drivetran technology hence, why I am waiting before I get the new hybrid 2025 M5. I may not get it at all since it is going to be heavier than the full EV BMW i5. Keeping my '21 F90 M5 for awhile.
Good luck with the C8!
Thank you
You’re welcome!😊
Hey Gary, if you're in the Dallas area, join the Lone Star Corvette Club, my girl and I joined last fall and it's a great time!
Ok, sounds great! I’ll look into it. 👍🏾
I currently drive a C6 wanting to get a C8 but the transmission issues are holding me back. Why give up a perfectly reliable Vette for one that isn’t? And shelling out lots of money for that headache!
I wouldn’t do it. You are better off just keeping your C6 or passing it down to someone in the family. I wish I would have kept my C6. It didn’t have any major mechanical issues and it ran great! I didn’t get much for it when I traded it in either. The C8 is an awesome car. Hands down awesome. As long as you don’t get one that breaks on you. Right now with the C8 honestly it’s hit or miss. Maybe wait until 2027. That’s when I’m getting my C8 Z06. They should have all the C8 problems worked out by then. Hopefully.😕TFTC ✌🏾
Hi Gary, you mentioned that you used a "scan tool". What scan tool do you use and how accurate is the analysis? I use the FIXD tool.
Martin, I’m considering the FIXD tool. Does it send your information to people outside the owner, such as insurance companies.
I knew someone was going to ask me that lol!! It’s a great scan tool it’s a LAUNCH OBD2 Scanner CRP123X Elite Car Scanner,2024 Lifetime Free Online Update Diagnostic Scan Tool. I bought it off of Amazon. I use it for all my cars.✌🏾
No, not that I am aware of. But you can email the results of the scan to yourself or someone else. ✌🏾
You can actually email the diagnostic report to anyone. It creates a .pdf file.
@@Sytyvette1 that’s not a lol question. GM has been selling data without your approval or knowledge to insurance companies for $billions. Is that a lol for them to be using your private data against you?
In 2024 they are still having issues with the transmission? Chevy really needs to get their 💩 together. I don’t care how great and wonderful the repair service is. You shouldn’t have to bring it in for repair in the first place. There are people who are making payments on the vehicle but it’s sitting in the shop for repairs. Make it make sense.
You are so right. It’s not a good look for Chevrolet! TFTC!✌🏾
@@Sytyvette1 If Chevy hasn’t resolved the problem with the 2025 models I’ll be looking purchase from their competitor. Mustang GT (manual) premium with active exhaust or Z nisnmo.
@romeedward2119 Sounds like a good idea if that’s what you want to do. But I do like what Ford has done with the Dark Horse. I just love Corvette period.TFTC!✌🏾
So what ever happened with your transmission. As I just took mine to the shop. And many error codes are coming up and my car dealer said they have to contact GM to see what they wanna do. They think they’re gonna take apart the transmission or replace the transmission. I will know in the next two days as I had the same problem as everybody else shuttering, and sometimes not even going in the gear just curious curious what they did with yours
My issue was all in the trans software. It was more of a parking brake issue which in turn sent a fault code the TCM. All is good now. I never had transmission shutter or issues with it not going into gear. Good luck to you bro and I hope they get it fixed quick so you can get back on the road and enjoy your car. TFTC!✌🏾
Thank you so much for the reply. And information
So what your saying is it was operator error. I'm the guy that sold the c6 zr1 and got th 23 lt2 z51 done more miles love it
Yes it was particularly my fault.✌🏾
What year is your Vette?
My corvette is a 2021.
The DCT filter should be changed again around 22,500 miles.
Yes that is correct!!👍🏾
😂😂😂😂😂 looks like u really enjoyed pushing on ithat accelerator 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah I was! It’s really exciting once you give the full beans specially in manual mode!TFTC!✌🏾
I read you need to add 2 quarts of transmission fluid if you plan to track your C8. Why on God's green earth didn't Chevy just added the extra quarts of tranny fluid regardless if someone track the car or not!
Stupid! Not thinking. Especially if your C8 Stingray has the Z51 package. It should have been added. But then they fixed it half way through the 23 model year. Now 2024’s and on have the 2 extra quarts already added to the transmission. 😞😜😊👍🏾
@@Sytyvette1 Good to hear GM addressed the issue; however, it doesn't help the owners of 2020 - 2023 C8s. GM again should provide the service at a very good discount (I know they will not do it for free).
One have to take apart a lot parts just to access the transmission fluid access hole on a C8.
Good luck with your baby !!
I think I made a big mistake buying this C-8.I will never be able to trust the thing when I drive it any place.I had a C-7 with NO problems, and traded it for this thing. If they have not fixed the problem with the Transmission after 5 years it is a bad design.I would NEVER buy a used one with this kind of problem for this many years. They need to stop building these cars till they can fix these crappy transmission problem.Who has $20,000 laying around to buy a new bad transmission? I am a retired UAW 35 year man. This is why people stopped buying American cars and trucks.
Man I’m sorry you are having problems with your C8. I agree with you the transmission issues are ridiculous. I had a C7 as well no real mechanical issues but it was not perfect either. I’m just a GM/Chevrolet fan boy. Sorry. TFTC!✌🏾
@@Sytyvette1 I am not having any problems yet,I am just worried I will after hearing all this bad news.
@rodneygreenman8107 ok,ok I understand.
A month
The c8 dct was not design for longevity
Nooooo! Don’t say that. 😭😭😭
@josephmccausland7175 what facts do you have to back that statement up with?
