IF your child was NOT Hurt/Shot/Killed ... you should not have an opinion on the students/parents/family who DID!!

How awful for others to say "Aidan was ONLY shot" bc he survived. Aidan has PTSD along with being shot. He may need lifetime care and the school should be sued for damages. The school was more than aware of the shooter's mental state and needs to be held accountable for not reacting soon enough.

And that’s why they had a school meeting with his parents that day, who sadly neglected him

What is WRONG with people? How can anyone think that people who survived a school shooting, whether or not they were injured, (INCLUDING friends and family) will EVER be the same?!!! It’s beyond ignorance. He was ONLY shot in the leg?!!!!! WHO SAYS SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!!!! We are all shaped and molded by our life experiences, good and bad. It’s lack of logic, insight, compassion, empathy, COMMON SENSE to think anyone involved in something so traumatic wouldn’t have long-lasting invisible scars along with the visible ones. My heart goes out to those parents and all their children. I hope that those they encounter will start thinking more intelligently before speaking and that there is more support for the community as a whole.

A good friend of mine was involved in a shooting at her middle school. In Germany it don't happen as often as in the US luckily, but still it is a topic not many like to talk about. As she told me she was in a classroom in the first story when she and the other students heart like ten gunshots from downstairs. Luckily noone got killed, cause the gunman - a forty year old man with psychosis who's daughter was a student at the school - got taken down by a teacher. One teacher got injured, but was rushed to hospital in time. Ever since that day - my friend was thirtheen than - she has troubles going to public places. She told me many people told her, that it was not even a big deal, cause they think she was never actually in danger, as the gunman was taken down fast enough. But she was right there, she heart the bullets hurting her teacher. If he'd go upstairs, where should she have gone? We have no shooting drills for the emergency case in our country, only a ten minute presentation from our teacher every new school year. That is not enough! She did not know what to do, the teachers did not know what else to do when closing the doors and turn the lights off and don't let anyone in. That is all they getting teached. This may not be enough to survive...

You're absolutely right. Look at the Parkland shooting in Florida. Several kids weren't shot, but committed s _____e bc mentally they couldn't get over it. Your comment was brilliantly and beautifully written.

The unfortunate reality is, there is a good chunk of the population who cannot find empathy without their own personal experience to compare it to. There are some people who will always be out there, trying to downplay and detract from another persons pain and grief, because they are ignorant to that experience. Personally, I think that is a good representation of that person's deficit as an "emotionally intelligent" being, and only proves that they are not worth taking seriously what so ever.

Good interview - glad to see Aidan and his folks trying to get themselves through this. I'm sure it's very difficult and I hope they know that many, many people support them in finding out who/what went wrong before shots fired. The district being defensive is one thing, the Board president's attitude and letter is appalling - but how fellow parents or residents can question/discourage their 'need to know' is beyond me.

So many people handled this wrong. They have a right to be angry and they should get a lawyer who will sue the pants off every negligent person involved. No sympathy. They let him go back to class? They didn’t check his locket and backpack? No. No. No. if this happened to my child I would be full on attack mode til every ounce of blood was paid back from every human who didn’t properly do their job. Any parent who says other wise hasn’t had it actually happen to their child.

When you hear about Columbine, you 9ften hear about how that community all came together to heal. Now these shootings are so common and so politicized they just cause division. These people would have been treated so differently 30 years ago. It's just astonishing where we're at with this ..

he may have been able to do band with accommodations...depending on the instrument he plays....if she can do it from a standard wheelchair it was easy...if he needed a specialized (ie stander) the community should have raised money for it, there was a guy whose father pushed him in the chair for marching band, but school could certainly provide that. I have no musical ability, but would have loved being in the band....someone like me would have been perfect to do that.

Yes no one knows till they've through it. I know my story is different. But I'm and adult and had a car wreck And it was a t-bone hit on our suburban witch if not for my husband we could've been killed. I still can't take a shower and wash my hair without hurting and being dizzy and fall. I just now went by the area without freaking out. And it happened in 2008. Rub your leg on with aspirin creme then wear wool stocks too keep your leg warm. I have metal rods too keep me safe. I can't be job the cold at winter. God bless you for being brave . And having a loving family around you.

They are meant to PROTECT not KILL. I will own one to protect my family but this… this is completely disgusting and is a misuse of a weapon.
