Caitlan Clark . love that you mentioned her. Here in Iowa we have Clark and Iowa wrestling. Go hawks. But actually I loved the idea of living in any one of those homes. By the time I get down there I'm hoping pricing for housing is as inexpensive as these homes.

Hello from Peru. They are very good houses but something I noticed from the first moment . I saw the ceilings of those houses. At the beginning I was not sure, came back with my eye-glasses and see it again. They are built using bamboo , and bamboo cut into strips. It is the worst possible material for a ceiling, specially in tropical areas. Here bamboo is dirt cheap building material. It needs a long period of treatment, for not being edible for termites. Most of those treatments do not exists in Ecuador and in Peru are not very popular too. Bamboo is just dry up , installed and painted. Probably good for the first years, but after some few years, termites will be living there. Once termite is installed inside the cavities of bamboo, it is almost imposible to get rid of them. It is a never ending problem. I know you aren't aware of this, but is very important to mention it. Here we have good hardwood as madera tornillo, madera capirona, madera Quinilla, madera huayruro, etc. Cheap and affortable for lasting during hundreds of years. Those woods are even better than Oregon Pine from USA. Thanks for reading.

Posdata -> not all the houses I saw have bamboo , but one of them is quite visible, the bamboo pipe are going from inside to the outside exposing the pipe to even faster deterioration in direct contact with humidity and rain. Here we are using salt hot water bath for treating the pipes, but it has to be a rigurous process and should be done once it is harvested. Not very common to see here. Better using hardwoods. Be careful because softwoods as Pino Radiata looks like hardwoods after wood dyeing.

Thanks for your note. The bamboo is just for decoration on the inside. The real roof is not bamboo.

Usually the bamboo here is topped by cement. It's a nuisance because the cement filters through from above and is a daily mess to clean.
Thanks for pointing that out to folks who are news to Equatorial South America.
I've been here for over 16 years on the coast and there is much that northerners do not know and are apt to learn only by error or by the kindness of strangers.
Those in real estate are not about to give you the downsides of the homes they are selling to unsuspecting buyers.
It is always best to RENT FOR A YEAR before buying any property in Ecuador. The learning curve is steep and this is NOT North America.
