    I totally agree, LEGO needs to bring back a brand new, unlicensed adventurers theme. In general I think LEGO needs more original themes, they've become a little bit too reliant on big IPs imo and in the past, they're original themes have always stood out to me as some of they're very best (Pharaohs Quest, Power Miners, Pirates, Castle, Monster Hunters, Atlantis, etc.).

    • @CheeseyStudios

      100%. Love the magic that these original themes bring to the wider world of LEGO. It's unhindered fun and silliness, and I'm absolutely here for it.

    Wonderful video! The Adventurers line as a whole is my favorite theme Lego has produced, and I have fond memories of this set in particular. There was a kid down the street who had the Temple of Mount Everest set, while I had a couple of the smaller Orient Expedition sets, such as the Elephant Caravan and the Secret of the Tomb. Thus I got to bring over my sets and we played the Everest portion of the board game!
    Fortunately I’m in a position now that I’ve been able to revisit my love of this theme by collecting them all (presently ~70% complete), and I look forward to the day I’ll be able to play the full game with friends/family with all the sets built out!
    On the notion of Lego returning to this theme, I completely agree with you in that desire. While the Indiana Jones stuff is nice in its own right, Johnny and the gang deserve a modern treatment!!

    Man, it isn't just nostalgia talking anymore, imo.
    Lego was THE toy, the Company went through tough times, experimenting all sorts of things, and then it came back stronger than ever, with the Lego brick becoming a cultural phenomenon around the globe.
    We're the ones that grew up experiencing all these excellent yet short-lived themes, IPs, reboots, successors in the 2000s and, as a Bionicle fan myself, it's safe to say we all kept Lego from going bankrupt.
    Point is, they EARNED our trust and love with these amazingly ingenious sets that we hold dear 20+ years later. That's a feeling that I think was lost in the past few years.
    Even modular buildings, a much loved line that's still around, lost a lot of its charm.
    I'm not saying I am (nor we are) growing out of Lego, I'm still very much interested in what the company's doing and I'm both buying newly released sets and getting some old ones I couldn't afford back then.
    I'm a proud AFOL nowadays, yet I just think that somethig was lost in the process.
    Smaller sets/builds still have that spark (the 90 years of play mini builds are excellent, for example), it's the overabundance of big and expensive flagship sets that's becoming almost irritating, to be frank (I haven't bought a single one besides the Colosseum, for a bunch of simple reasons, being born in Rome and a classical literature graduate).
    Maybe only Technic is yet to be affected by this change, as many recent sets were just great and better than anything that came before.
    I don't know, I just miss when with 20-30€ I could get so much more with so much less and maybe, once every Christams, that 50€+ set was the standout for the whole year.

    Adventurers was a great theme which covered many unique locations, I do hope that they bring back this theme for the 100th anniversary of Lego.
    I also wanted to mention that Lord Sam Sinister in this set looks allot like Baron Von Barron from the earlier subthemes of this theme. (Just check both of them BrickLink and you will see what I mean) I have seen a theory were Sam Sinister is actually Barron's true identity, but that theory falls apart since they were both included in multiple sets together. My personal headcannon is that Lord Sam Sinister was the funder of Barron's expeditions, but when the expeditions were failures because of Johnny Thunder, Sam Sinister decided to stop funding them. Because of this, Baron, for a lack of a more family friendly term, Murdered Sam Sinister, and took on his identity in order to continue funding his expeditions, which explains why he is named Sam Sinister in the Orient Expedition sets.
    Anyways keep up the great work on all your videos!

    • @riakm921
      @riakm921 Před rokem +2

      It certainly is an interesting conundrum, and the Hunted House set that came out a few years back has some more to say on the issue! The mansion in question was the abode of Baron Samuel von Barron, who is established to be the character from the desert line who absconded with the Re-Gou Ruby. It is also firmly established that this is the same character who appears in the three other Adventurers sub-themes. However the question of Slyboots (aka? Sam Sinister) only thickens, as the mansion contains a skeleton which may be the remains of Sly... This is interesting because it seems to suggest a falling-out between them two, additionally it is explicitly stated that Sly was the brains of the Desert operation. In any case, we know there is an answer to this riddle somewhere, because the Lego Detective (Minifigures Series 5) is known to have solved “the Sam Sinister Switcheroo” case!

Hence, the reason why this set has so many gear options is because you must collect them in order to avoid the many traps and obstacles on your way to the sword. Excellent video my man, I absolutely love the whole Adventurers theme. It's absolutely my favorite production lego theme by far! I'd love an inclusion of all the sets that are made reference to in the haunted mansion (fairgrounds collection) set. Building that recently brought me to very manly nostalgic tears lol. What's the word on the discord by the way?

      So glad you like the rare parts! They're always my favorite too. I really want to get back into making more Harry Potter stuff. I know it's a bit late, but maybe some reviews of the summer wave of sets would be a good place to start?

    I still have the catalog in which the Orient Expedition subtheme appeared, and I always dreamed having it, but LEGO was painfully expensive in my country by that time, and as a child, it was even difficult to get near a store who sold LEGO in the first place. What I liked about this theme is that it had a board game! Can you explain it in other video? Do you have plans for doing the other 2 main sets reviews?
    Now I can afford LEGO more easily (thanks, humble teacher job!) and I could get a modern Johnny Thunder minifigure at a minifigure specialized mini-store with a nice backpack, a magnifying glass, a nice hat, and for some reason, a chameleon XD XD

    • @CheeseyStudios
      @CheeseyStudios  Před rokem +1

      The modernized Johnny Thunder was such a treat, ha! Unfortunately I was unable to pick up the game pieces, though I will continue to look in the future. There aren't many surviving copies left sadly. The other two big sets are definitely on my wishlist! Hopefully I can pick them up one day too.

    • @CheeseyStudios
      @CheeseyStudios  Před rokem +1

      Lighting is key indeed! Basically I have one big overhead light that's probably about the size of the table I use. This makes the light super consistent and it's pretty well diffused, meaning the light is really soft and you don't get harsh shadows beneath the build. To introduce some dimension to the bricks, I also have a light angled off to the side. If you look closely, you'll see the left side is brighter. Super simple setup, but works really well.

    I think the Himalayas sets might be my favourite out the three sub-subthemes from Orient Expedition. sure the other two locations have a bit more to their sets, but I really like the aesthetic of these ones (possibly because they remind me of Tintin In Tibet, I think Orient Expedition in general has a lot of Tintin vibes).

Until now I kind of ignored These sets, but now I’m thinking of buying one, and also, what are your thoughts about yard sale hunting, like hunting for lego at a yard sale, because I found 20 dollars worth of lego for 6 dollars, in Canadian money

    The licensed stuff is cool, but my absolute favorite Lego themes were always the original/unlicensed stuff. Adventurers, Castle and Pirates were all my favorites. I understand why Indiana Jones licensed stuff took over, considering when I was 8 years old I still thought to myself “Oh Johnny Thunder is an Indiana Jones ripoff! Cool!” Lol

    Original themes, they always had such a charm. Lego's liscened stuff doesn't have that same charm. Even Ninjago is kind of outgrowing the originality? But I still appreciate Ninjago for what it does. Would love more simple stuff like this, just give us a random theme and give us sets. Imagine they rotated through original, non-tv show themes. Purely letting designers just go wild on one theme that year, n then that releases

    • @CheeseyStudios
