Here's today's LA Times Expert level sudoku puzzle: www.latimes.com/games/sudoku I used the editor on the sudokuexchange.com website to play this game.
Since 25 pair at R5(C7+C8) and 2's at R9(C7+C8) Therefore 5's not possible at R9( C7+ C8) to avoid the deadly pattern. Now the only place for 5 in col 7 is at R5C7 which resolves the 25 pair.
Today NYT took long time and LAT took very short time. Good puzzle thanks.
I got stuck, I missed the 57 pair in col 8, because I had written a 567 and a 5678 into those two cells.
Since 25 pair at R5(C7+C8)

Therefore 5's not possible at R9( C7+ C8) to avoid the deadly pattern.

Mmm, quite easy with a UR, but maybe not without it (42 = row 4 column 2):
42, 12, 93, 91, 43,
53, 44, 41, 67, 52,
62, 26, 84, 55, 57 (hidden UR, boxes 6 and 9),
58, 97, 89, 96, 95,
75, 98, 74, 65, 64,
92, 72, 94, 88, 85,
86, 24, 34, 35, 15,
78, 79, 48, 49, 29,
39, 28, 36, 16, 26,
11, 13, 61, 63, 21,
31, 27, 23, 33, 18,
38, 37, 17.
Aha! R5C7 can be justified by a pair in row 9, leading to the same path.
