I just think na, honda city has more history and has proven itself more than other competitors. Up to now, you can see more of the 2nd and 3rd gen city out in the streets, than of that 1st and 2nd gen vios even being in the same year model and despite their massive quantity during their time.
Not a hater, i'm just tired of this old saying 😅 anyways it all comes down with the owners care.

That the Vios has better noise insulation over the City (and practically nothing else) does not justify that slightly higher price tag.

Nice. I think for those who lean on the Vios do so because of the the little things that matters in the real world of daily driving, in the Philippines at least (read: provinces that are not blessed with extensive smooth concrete roads) :
    1. Higher ground clearance (otherwise your vaunted freedom to travel with such a nice car will be limited to the city proper and malls, period) push the envelope and be ready to fix that front lip in no time at all. Pick your choice of culprit a.) speed bumps on steroids b.)road approaches to establishments that will challenge even respectable SUVs. c.) Never ending rough road detours of road construction left and right d.) Wait, is that a chicken in the middle of the road, in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere with no street lights, I'm doing 90 so, BAM!
    2. No tunnel bump at the rear floor. Enough said. Sedans are the original 7 seater of the ordinary Filipino in the province. Yes, count 5 adults and 2 children.
    3. Basic parts that can and are tuned to withstand abuse i.e steering components, suspension system, brakes, tranny mechanisms..
    4. Sheet metal that is less prone to corrosion overtime. (read: I live in the province blessed with a coastal area dotted with nice beaches. Of course I park my car next to our beach cottage and as near as possible to it. Salty ocean breeze is such a heavenly feeling to the lungs, but not so on most metal objects. And when we leave, I just put a towel in my seat and hop on: wet board shorts , dripping flipflops with generous sprinkles of sand, all aboard!
    5. Comparatively, the Vios is still cheaper in maintenance cost in the long run with lesser inconveniences along the way as against the City (read: far and between casa location in the provinces, unavailability of parts and long wait order, plus they are quite expensive). Mind you, both are respectable brands that makes and use quality parts, so they don't just breakdown or anything, but they do have "schedules" to follow for "optimum" performance. Refuse to replace these parts, say goodbye to your warranty. Economy of scale sucks.
    6. Aircon system that last as long as you need it. Hello, I will trade touchscreen gizmos and whatnots for a functioning A/C anytime. Handheld gadgets are doing most of their tasks anyway so not much loss there.
    7. Acceptable safety features. Respectable number of airbags plus discs on all 4 wheels. Anyway, in my personal opinion, driver's who keep on yapping and looking for a long list of "assist" car features should have no business driving a car in the first place. We are not there yet of Star Trek level AI and navi tech. A driver should still drive consciously at all times, not the machine, and the world will be a better place.
And the City, well it trumps the Vios on many aspects while at par with the others and vice-versa. Let us just say, Honda cars are for some of the more discerning individuals. In the end, the choice would really still depend on the preference of the user.
As for pricing, well, it is a very tricky thing for carmakers. Things like, sales, current events, and strategies (read: level of corruption in the country where the plant is) play a part about that. Toyota still assembles Vios in our country *wink. Honda have already closed shop in Laguna *double wink. They say it would more cheaper to manufacture their units in their other manufacturing hubs and exporting them. But that is just one angle out of many. If you get what I mean, please nod your head and subscribe to the channel above. Thank you.

Toyota for the masses, and Honda for the higher classes, will always be in the head of the people even though it doesn’t seem that way for a while now. Even my parents choose Honda cars for the reason “kasi mas may dating”

@@b.roa2366 Can't blame them though. For many, buying a car is an investment and of course, the best investment is the one that is most likely to yield long term rewards (case in point napakaraming 90s and noughties toyota vehicles still traversing our streets). Toyota is tried and tested in this aspect thus building up its reputation on reliability and as a "safe buy/investment" for the masses. Not to say other brands are not reliable, but histrorically Toyota is leading at this standard (sheer volume, vast availability of parts, etc) at syempre ayan naman usually unang consideration ng most buyers.
In this comparo I prefer the City because it is better in nearly every aspect, but I won't blame people for choosing one of Toyota's staple cars.

Those who doesn't appreciate the vios SOLELY because of "pang taxi" reason is purely ignorant or chose to be. There's a reason why and they probably know what it is.
I agree though that the vios needs to catch up on some tech. As a driver, I think NVH is important as it rounds up the overall experience. Pang icing nlng yung techs. But better if it comes with (like the City). Safety features and maintenance costs are also a deal breaker in the long run.
It's actually a tough/confusing choice. In the end, it all boils down to preference. I personally think money is well-spent on either.
