Note, they've done the smart move to move some of the battery up in the hump, which means they were able to lower the floor a bit further.
In most newer cars the floor are a little too high, which means the sitting position can be a little awkward, but not in the Polestar due to the lower floor.

Great to see you back! Your series of videos were very important in helping me to decide to buy a Polestar in September 2021. I have had no regrets at all. I appreciate your sensible approach, with no apologies for either pointing out issues or praising what works really well. Looking forward to seeing more from you, and perhaps to be taken by you through the process of deciding what to do when your Polestar lease is up. It is very interesting, as you point out, to realize how many more options there are now in this price range since both of us opted to buy Polestar 2!

As a fellow Polestar 2 "leaser," (standard suspension, 20 inch rims, Plus, Pilot) you are spot on with the review. I had a TCAM outage on Day 1 and it went back to the dealer for that on Day 2, and no issues since. Only other issue is a creak in the front right side window (passenger side for LHD cars) right at the B pillar. I think this is quite common and will be addressed at my next dealer visit...which is for installation of the kick to open hatchback sensor. My car was delivered in early 2022 without it due to supply issues back then. Also, I got the performance update with the HP bump to 476hp....absolutely amazing performance now!

I'm a taller driver, 6ft, and i've not had any trouble with spaciousness at the front. The seats and wheel are more adjustable than a lot of cars so i find the Polestar more comfortable than most, though that's dependent on body type and sitting style. Absolutely agreed on the front practicality though, it's a beautiful and comfortable layout but it's terrible for storage. And the cupholders might as well not be there.
Still, I wouldn't trade my Polestar 2 for most anything out there right now.

Thanks for this. I've just placed an order for a 2024 LRSM(US market), with the move to RWD, longer range, and faster charging I think the Polestar still holds up well. I had a 2019 Tesla Model 3 and while I appreciated the efficiency and range, the rest of the car just wasn't all that. It was an appliance, the Polestar has much more personality.

From another recent Polestar 2 owner, this is an excellent, comprehensive and honest review. For me, the more basic and solid features of the car are the most important. Range will improve on all these EVs in the future, but as you say, at 2.5 to 3 hours of continuous driving it’s time for a rest and recharge anyway. Just hope that the British charging systems will improve and become easier to use. 👍

Great review. I have a Polestar 2, leased in November 2021. I live in Northern California and contrary to this review, the Ioniq 5 and EV6 are way more expensive than the Polestar 2. The dealers have been adding enormous and prohibitively high surcharges to those vehicles. The Polestar is straightforward purchase or lease, no playing with the customer. I am very happy with my Polestar.

Great review. Our BMW i4 e4p msport seems a direct competitor to the Polestar. Similar hatchback layout and dual purpose chassis (i.e., drive tunnel). The BMW also has great driving dynamics but we easily hit 4.0 mi/kWh on the highway in warm weather, dropping by 20% when it’s below freezing. The phone app works well and we’ve had no mechanical or software issues so far. The Android Auto integration also works very well. We chose the i4 after testing the ID.4, Mach-E, EV6, Ioniq 5, Tesla Y, and (for a lark) the BMW iX.

Just a quick bit of info - Hyundai Ioniq 5 / Kia EV6 are 220kw max charging - lot's of mis-information about them doing 350 - I think this is due to their website being very misleading, it quotes the time charging at 350kw but they are actually referring to the time spent on a 350kw charger. The actual cars can only do 220 max (perhaps more with future software updates but unlikely)

Well done. Thank you. I strongly considered a Polestar 2 before I decided to buy a Tesla Model 3 LR 2 years ago, here in Canada. I really liked the Polestar, but one of my main concerns was that there are only 3 "dealerships/service" centres in all of Canada. Shockingly that remains the same today. I believe the one in Montreal has just graduated from a glorified shipping container into an actual building. That is not confidence inspiring in a country this size. In a cross country trip, you could easily find yourself thousands of kilometres from the nearest service centre. And no, from what I read they cannot be serviced at any Volvo dealer. I believe it is the same situation in the US. Also, the CCS charging network in North America is sadly lacking, whereas doing just about any long distance trip in the Tesla is completely seamless and without any range anxiety. There is a lot to be said for that!

  • @CaryInVictoria
    @CaryInVictoria Před rokem +3

I've enjoyed your reviews, including this one. Is the Polestar 3 or Volvo EX90 possibilities for you when your lease expires (recognizing that they will be much more expensive than the Polestar 2)?
You are probably aware that the 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 will get substantial changes, with the twin-motor versions getting an 82 kw battery (up from 78 kw), a bigger motor in the back and a smaller one in the front, and the single-motor version will morph from FWD to RWD, with the bigger battery available as an option. Also, the motors are said to be more efficient and the maximum charging rate will increase from 150kw to 200kw. WLTP range for the XC40 twin is claimed to increase from 418 kms. to 502 kms. Assuming the 2024 Polestar 2 will get the same changes, might that tempt you when your present lease expires? Maybe you'd get a redesigned centre console as well, considering the criticism it has received from reviewers and owners alike.

  • @tomoldigs1353

Nowadays there are no more bad cars, I would say. If you like spirited driving, the P2 is definitely one of the first choices, in My opinion. The I5/EV6 are bigger, that means longer, wider and especially taller, like a MY. That’s what you have to decide, choosing a next BEV. What’s still not perfect on the I5/EV6 is preconditioning of the Battery on cold weather conditions, something that works quite well in the P2, even the first ones. MY24 of the P2 gets new efficient motors, more power, RWD with single motors, Charging up to 205kW, range up to 406ml/654km, that are big improvements, on a still very good looking car.
Sure, the Google Infotainment could have more functions, and there I’ll be more soon, hearing rumours about SW 2.8/2.9 coming soon.

The failure mode you don't seem to be experiencing is the key transponder failure and that is the mode that basically bricks the car; but they are all TCAM. I had the TCAM issue at 3 weeks of ownership (500 mi) and had the TCAM module replaced and it has been fine for the last 6,500 miles.

Both it and the Kia EV6 are software limited to around 235kW max charge speed so not 350kW (just yet). That is often still too quick though! Not enough time to use the toilet and have a drink and bite to eat before the car is ready at a charge stop!. Comes with the Ionity network discounted rate of 25p/kWh which is fantastic also. My job has changed slightly meaning I rarely travel beyond the full charge limit of my PS2 so I'm ok with that for now.
