Great Video Jolene! My undergrad piano teacher use to tell me all the time “ It’s better to play something slow and have it be clean than to play fast and have it be messy”. I must admit that when I get nervous, I tend to rush a difficult passage

Too many notes and not enough time! Great thoughts on staying relaxed and grounded. Thank you!

Excellent tips! Too few musicians touch on the mental aspects of performance. Thank you!

    What piece is this?!!
And this was very helpful. I had began to come to this conclusion in my flute journey, but i couldn't put into words; and you explained it so well! It really is an extension of yourself.

Love this Jolene! As performers and teachers we are so focused on the notes themselves that we often overlook the many clues that our bodies and brains are giving us. Focussing instead on those can completely change everything. Thanks for explaining this so well 😃🎶

This is so so so helpful! I'm so glad I discovered this channel. I'm just a huge ball of tension but I find it so difficult to be aware and relax. This will help me a lot! Thank you and please keep making videos

Thank you Jolene, I love your vids, lovely short but every second definitely worth watching.
I do love the idea of "learning to enjoy difficulty" instead of facing it with a fight/flight reaction. This might apply to many other things in life ;)
Thanks, kiitos, and long life to JoleneFlute !

"Closing in and prepare to battle" the story of my life lolol. A couple of weeks ago i realize i sometimes have a tendency to squeeze and press the keys harder throughout the end the practice I was getting very stressed in every aspect of the music. Seems crazy but now when I'm practing I try to simulate a flight feeling trying to become as free and comfortable as possible. I do some meditation as well great video as always jolene thanks a lot

    translated to English:
HELLO Jolene¡¡¡, I do not know if you understand my language, I'm from Venezuela, but it's to ask you: in what angle do you place the mouthpiece (head) of the flute? because there are flutes like the yamaha that has a mark in the form of a small arrow that indicates where the mouthpiece should be, but it bothers me because I feel it very outside and it looks too far away, so I give it a little towards me and I feel very much more comfortable, but at the same time I have doubts because they say you have to touch it in the position indicated by the arrow, and I see many flutists on CZcams and not everyone has the head of the flute in that position ... Then ... How should I place the angle of the head of the flute, as indicated by the arrow on the flute or to my liking as I feel more comfortable?
