    I grew up at this track. From when I was 3 years old till I was 18. Even raced for a bit in bombers in 2003. So happy to get to see these videos.

    I was very fortunate to be witness to these racers back in the 90s. Ron Shuman, Leland McSpadden, Billy Boat, Richard Griffin, J.J., the Ripper and all the rest. They put on a tremendous show every time. Lee Brewer was always my underdog favorite. He was a great driver and under rated.

    are these crowns they seem soo long bodied and the tanks on the rear or huge, if they are sprints they sure dont sound as agressive as 410's

    • @GarrettDeskovick
      @GarrettDeskovick  Před 2 lety +3

      No, they're 410's, back then there were more bigger lap races than there r now. Also there was a lot of different chassis builders back then, then now. More unique cars

      @@GarrettDeskovick they sure look like dirt champ cars to me they are long bodied on the front, and seem wider wheeled, I realize they shortend the chassie at some pointe from the old sprint cars but these seem huge. and why is it that sometime around the late 70's or 80's they went to the wedge looking chassie vs the roundish rocket cigar shape they had in the old days of the roadsters, is it for more surface area of downforce I wonder, you thing round would slip though the air getter then square.
      I do remember reading about this track where they had the sprint car world series, which I saw once or twice maybe they reaired it the one year on tnn but remember seeing it advertised after trucks and tractor power on one of the raceing news shows, dont remember who compeated though it was when monstertrucks were all the rage and you did not have to tear them up every time just to win. like monster jam, you had thunderdrags and you had a few obstical courses outside and the ubiquitious at the time tough truck competition at the 4 wheel jamberee circut, sad it closed this raceway but if it is not levled there is still hope of one day it being brought back, or someone take an interest in getting rolling wheels going again saddly there will never be another race of cars at the hoosier mile they put down limestone so they can train harness horses, which I dont even think they actually run races there only train around the hoosier state fair mile, there was to be one last hoosier 100 but three weeks before it was to be since the limestoning was put off due to covid and it had not begun there was to be one more but three weeks before they announced the start of the surface conversion, and it was only one of 4 left like it, though if one could convince usac and a horsetrack somewhere that is dirt it is still very much possible if you put up temporary safer barriors and a catch fence I think it possible, I never say a dirt mile race, and of all things usac which is based out of indy has no large dirt track in the speed capital to race on among the tracks which are numourous in the area, you got a road course or two, you got two short tracks, one dirt at circle city and one on turn three of the brickyard for bc39, you got the big one at lucus oil indy raceway park and you got the granddaddy the ims itself but no dirt mile anymore, though hoosier downs at shelbyvill is just outside the city it is a mile dirt horsetrack, but asking them on social media if they would consider it they said cool idea but we dont have the barriors in place so thats a no,
      I would just be happy though if they had another dirt half mile in the state besides terre haute, where the dirt champ cars of the silver crown could race, though supposedly they have one up in elkart at the fairgrounds that is a half mile around they use for monster trucks and demo derbys during the county fair as well as horse racing as its popuar among the amish and mennonite in that area and all the farms, on a website about harness racing and crushed limestone they called indiana the hub of the harness racing wheel in the region so I guess its a big thing up there how big well I will see as I think I will watch one of the afternoons of racing this summer I live in north indiana by auburn where the acd festival and the labor day auction were, I say were as the big auction is no more in the park it was sold r and m wanted out of the physical location, and it went downhill after kruse lost his license to auction and had to sell it, but they build several big cars themselves up here in the early days of indy and auto racing.
      cars are in our blood up here and the auto industry is very much a big industry even now around the region.
