Asprilla not only had a cool name, but watching him play was an utter joy. A coup by Newcastle to bring him to our shores. With his almost dislocated hips contorting and giving him an advantage then jussssst poking the ball past helpless defenders and he was away.
A bloody joy to watch. Didn't matter who you supported. Asprilla was a cabaret act all by himself.

Dalglish destroyed a very good Newcastle team by selling Ferdinand Asprilla and Ginola and for that I’ll never forgive him
I think Dalglish looked at the fact Ferdinand and Shearer played a smilar game, and Shearer was a few years younger, I think Les was already 32, so I can kind of understand that decision. Ginola? Maybe Dalglish thought his work rate wasn't enough? Asprilla didn't score many goals but I don't think Dalglish should have sold him, that was a mistake.
But this is what happens when you change managers and they have different plans, or what they call today, a "project".
An interesting article here. It seems Newcastle changed their mind after Shearer got a bad injury but Ferdinand decided to leave because it was handled badly.
