Nice work. Done a bunch of repairs like that. I always charged a premium if it had to be done on the equipment like that, it’s no joke hunching over/crawling around on the ground all day. Couple tips to help you out: if you didn’t preheat the plates to 200 to 300 degrees before the first root, do it if possible, it will help you a ton on getting it to wet out. Second, put toilet paper on that seat, you don’t want to catch crabs. 3rd if you haven’t run them try esab 7018 prime rods. I find they run real good start to finish, never have bad starts (they have a graphite tip to help starts) and in 5/32 size they get shit done. Glad you’re sharing videos like this, to few people are inspiring the next generation of welders/builders 😀👍

Like the fact you use a respirator with the charcoal filters. Dont see many people using ppe but so vital!

Nice Job! Your fighting the heat, and we still have 3 feet of snow still on the ground and freezing at night!

Carbon Arc gouging and raise the job a little higher to make the work more comfortable.

I've been looking for safety goggles. I think the whole welding industry is stupid with the safety equipment, hoods and glasses don't protect enough. 3M sells a pair of safety goggles that are curved and sit tighter to the face. I'm looking at them because I can put prescription inserts into them as well. So far it's the best I've been able to find. The goggles are 30$ CAD and are pretty easy to get it seems, I'd recommend you look at something better than just safety glasses when you're dealing with eyeballs and flying metal.

It's tough finding good carbide bits these days. Even expensive ones don't see to bite like they used to or if they do they don't stay sharp long.

The other thing I like about you as a fellow welder is that you don't edit anything you are real world you show how it really is and how it really works truth is not pretty sometimes but I like that you don't pull punches with it it is what it is

Awesome well done!!! I actually enjoy doing crack repairs on equipment, they are not always easy and they certainly test a welder’s ability!!!!! But being able to get people up and running especially when dealing with fucked up shit is really rewarding!!!!
