2015 Mustang GT vs. 2006 BMW M5 V10

- Two roll races from ~30mph. Both cars are mostly stock with the exception of basic exhaust modifications. Mustang is an automatic; BMW is an SMG.
UPDATE: Here is some more information on the vehicles in the video. Fanboys have flooded my video and I have been seeing significantly more traffic on this over the last few months.
The Mustang is a base, automatic GT with aftermarket exhaust. Sticker price was $34,000. There is nothing more to be said.
The M5 is running at full engine power here (not "400HP mode"). The original sticker price was $82,000. It was mechanically sound at the time of the video.
The owner of the M5 sold the vehicle due to foreseen issues and their accompanying repairs. He has since purchased a CTS-V which is currently undergoing some tasteful modifications.

The M5 clearly has serious mechanical/electrical issues going on. There was some sort of orange flashing light on the back of it at the beginning

A quick goole seach shows a 2006 M5 with 500hp and 383 ft-lb torque and the 2015 Mustang gt with 435hp and 400 ft-lb Torque. So the mustang has 65 less hp, and 17 ft-lbs more torque.

@Calvin G its not too loud but you could easily drive around just listening to the V10- its pretty much as good a sound as it gets car wise.
New ones are faster by point 5 of a second but fuck me you will never get tired of that sound. And it just keeps going. Its a silly silly brilliant car. I love mine and can't let go.

I was driving the M5. I started in 2nd gear when I should've been in 1st both times. I will do more runs and post another video soon. Still impressed that the Mustang kept up so good.

i had an E60 m5. amazing car. i dont think mods really do much for it though. unless of course it is supercharged.
your m5 is 10 year old tech. and was so ahead of its time, as a 4000 lb sedan it could do 204 mph, bone stock, in 2004. and can still beat cars of today with similar hp./power to weight ratio.
i now daily drive a 991 porsche gt3. needless to say its simply a master piece.
but i dont think that even it matched the madness or the savagery of the e60 m5 pull/upshift at 8400 rpm.

It was an M mode. Like I said before, I started in higher gear. I should've been in 1st both times. Still surprised though. 2015 Mustang Gt's run high 12's and M5 runs mid 12's. So those newer 5.0's are no joke. We stopped at about 110mph. M5 would start walking it from there if we woulda gone faster.
henry canchola wouldn't you be rather close to redline starting in 1st at 30mph? that would require an extra shift which may or may not help. Just go from a dig next time... on a track preferably.

The nice thing about driving around in a stock E60 M5 is that no one really knows what you're driving. The bad thing about it is no one knows what you're driving unless you put a "good" aftermarket exhaust on it..

Except when the Vanos, Throttle Actuator and Rod Bearings fail. The M5 is a great car, just be prepared to get ready for a motor purchase above 100k miles.

@@JBMWm318 Just don't rev it to red line when it's cold, and it last a long time, problem is that most people in US like to stand still revving it to try to attract 12 y old boys, and all you have to tell about it is a worn out rod bearing. My E92 is in purrfect condition (70k) no sign of wear, but I have followed the services, oil changes and never revved it in neutral (but I'm riding it to the red line when warm).

I have a 2006 bmw m5 and to me it seemed that the m5 was in the 400hp mode and not in the m mode which is 507 hp i have walked brand new mustangs so i dont understand what happened with this race!

+BosnianJDM Productions um lets rephrase here. cause you are not informed correctly. 3 power settings 400 500 507 the M mode is a BMW default race setting overiding any special settings u picked and throwing it into 507hp with a special throttle response tighter dampening and ferocious shifts (smg) now i have the 6mt which still gets trashed in M mode but daily its driven in 507hp mode with is sport +

The E39 will always be tops, but the E60 V10 is a pretty close second. That's when the M5 truly became an exotic machine.
That V10 is a direct descendant of the F1 engine they were operating at the time. It’s one of the best engines ever made. Yes, it has a reputation for longevity issues, but it’s mostly a reputation it’s been given by people who have no idea what to do with a highly tuned piece of machinery.

The more amazing part of this video is the fact that the bmw driver used the turn signal.
Pretty sure it was on the M mode, you guys have to realize its a new car vs old car. Older cars get progressively slower with each year. That M5 would not run factory numbers not even close.
If you ever see a real E60 M5 run it, past 80MPH, you will be jaw-dropped.
These S85/S65 engines are a beast, these videos don't do it justice. My E90 m3 runs head to head with new mustang (whatever it's called - V8 revs to 8300RPM, just came out last year). My E90 is 7 years old and runs head to head with it.
Just search up M5/M3 Dynos. M3's stock put down 430bhp, 360 whp. Remember when all you fan boys start going online and searching "Dyno" numbers. At the end of the day it's all meaningless. The real purpose of a dyno is to compare to the other cars (same models) that are running that day, or compare your same car to the changes you've made (tunes, exhaust, mid-pipe, pulley, intake etc..)

Incorrect. The 2006 M5 traps around 115 mph in the 1/4 mile, and the new automatic GTs trap around 113 mph, both make their runs in the 12 second range.
That means after 12 seconds of acceleration the M5 is only going about 2 mph faster than the GT if its being properly driven. This M5 looked to be going 1-2 mph faster than the GT towards the end of their run, meaning its pretty much as fast as it was back in 2006.
For you to see a difference in a car's performance you're going to need to see mileage well over 100k. Doubtful that applies to the M5 in this case.
The M5 in this video was a low mileage car. Power degradation is negligible over a car's lifetime, granted it has no underlying issues and has been properly maintained. My '04 Cobra, modified with 60k miles on it, put down 457HP on a dyno, slightly more than when it was measured several years before with its previous owner.
TL;DR: The M5 was at full power in this video.

Seriously though, the Mustang was never intended to compete with a car like the M5. (It's a 2 door with 'sport/touring' aspirations},...yet here we are today with a car that cost a fraction of the cost, still 'luxurious' relatively speaking and much easier and less costly to mod...and when that happens, even the newer M5 can't keep up. (1000+ hp Coyotes are becoming more and more prolific).
Of course, the day is probably coming where the plebs won't have access to cool cars like the Mustang and we'll be stuck with the crumbs that fall off the elitist Bavarian table. ;)
well the reason being is that the BMW M5 had the shitty 6 speed only available in the US... The 7 speed Getrag SMG III single-clutch semi-automatic transmission outperforms the 6 speed in every test done.
It's faster by a few tenths..If that floats your boat there.
That side, no hate on the SMG but I've heard some horror stories about it's reliability and cost to repair.
Also, much of the comparison between the two is purely subjective.

In these races the M5 is shutting down just as its hitting its stride. If you take the limiter off leaving everything else stock the M5 will run up to 207mph which is faster than any production car ford has ever made to date(maybe the 2017 GT will finally out run it but that hasn't been released yet). Also Im not saying BMWs are the BEST as that's extremely subjective (especially when you take cost into consideration) but if that level of performance coming from a 4000+lbs sedan doesn't impress you then I don't know what else to say.

Typical mustang owner... I know its hard for you to read and comprehend but please try to follow along. I said production which means with no engine mods and no tune. The gt500 will not hit 200mph and a stock gt will not hit 245mph. Ford claimed the GT500 would do 200mph but every independent person that tried with a stock car never was able to hit much over 190. The gt was gear limited at 205mph. The M5 was electronically limited at 155 but you can have BMW remove it leaving the stock tune and everything else stock it will do 207. Which as I said is faster than every PRODUCTION car ford ever built. Can you mod the other two cars to be faster absolutely. Will the other two hit their top speeds before the M5 probably. Will the M5 hit a higher top speed stock than either one stock for stock, absolutely.

Thats not true - maintain it with regular fluid changes and its not bad to own. Parts are a bit more expensive and you will need a knowledgeable mechanic but the experience more than makes up for the above normal running costs. The V10 M5 is second only to the E39 legend wise but provides an experience very few will ever possess.
It is about as good as it gets. And the drama and noise is unforgettable.

It's an atmosphere V10 5.0L engine. If you want tuned, build a nice turbo inside, check if the block can handle it and then talk. Both cars stock. BMW has just more PS than the Mustang. I have one...it's great.... I bought it after the previous owner put a brand new engine in it by Troy Jeup that has 600hp and rod bearings fixed... good for 100k... the gearbox is still shit tho... but it's so fun to drive....you never turn on the radio....
