Finally done! There is a lack of consistency and accidentally saved a lot of the sketch layers to the frames but... overall I am proud of how it turned out :)

Hannah Huang That is pretty realistic in many cases. If hit hard enough the nerves in your hands will send a message of pain to your brain forcing you to open your palm. Can’t tell you why but all I know is that much. My best guess however is that your brain believes whatever you are carrying is the cause of pain so it lets go.

Yeah one of the major themes of the movie was performative sympathy - addressing the problem of depression and suicide in teens and how everyone just treats it as a "phase". All the murdered characters were staged as a suicide, and society just shrugs its shoulders and went, "Oh those moody teens! What're you gonna do?" No one cared enough to actually investigate their deaths, and the characters that DID talk about their depression and suicide were brushed off.

That's one of the reasons I love this musical. The upbeat tunes mixing with the dark themes give it an uneasy feeling that is just so potent.
Yeah, that's pretty much Heathers's entire thing, juxtaposing happy cheery melody with horrifying themes.
It is a dark comedy after all ;)

the original idea for his character is making a more realistic “handsome bad boy with Issues”, a character often seen in 80s teenage dramas (as an example, dirty dancing). he has to *look* appealing so Veronica gets a crush on him and does stupid things like trying to flirt with him, the guy that brings guns to school and burns cigarettes in his girlfriend's skin as punishment and murders people cold blooded. musical JD is tamer, but that’s the essence of his character, the idea that love doesn’t magically fix mysterious bad boys.
also, most internet artists don’t know how to draw ugly people.

I didn't watch the full musical but i did watch the original movie and i remember that in the movie jd and his dead talk about how much they move to different states and i like to think it's because they constantly kill people and have to move because of it, jason dean might not even be his real name

I feel like J.D. is such an amazing character- If you think about it, he's doing all this for Veronica.

He KNOWS Martha is presumed dead, he KNOWS Martha and Veronica were extremely close. Maybe he wants to destroy everyone in Westerburg High is because he wants to send all of the Marthas and Heathers to heaven, so they wouldn't suffer anymore. That's what Veronica wants- For them to get along.
He killed the two jocks because they- uhm- yeah- did that to Veronica. He watched her cry because of this and it made him want to get rid of them.
2:20 He had the gun. He had Veronica at gun point. But he didn't shoot immediately. Why? Because he cares. He wants Veronica to realize she won't be able to stop him from doing this and to stop trying. He's obviously capable of beating Veronica in a fight and getting rid of her. He just doesn't want to.

Yeah, he definitely loved Veronica. In a very twisted and unhealthy way.
Now that we're overanalizing, JD's certainly not sane, but (whilst this IS something of a technicality), I think he's not a psycopath, but a sociopath, and it's actually a really interesting example of their difference, because if he WAS a psychopath he would be a very different character.
PD: I haven't actually seen the musical/movie, and I'm speaking from what I know from this animatics and the internet overall, if I am right, that just goes to show how powerful this songs are for transmiting feelings and the story.

Hence why Sociopaths tend to be more impulsive and illogical than Psychopaths.
Fairly certain that Hannibal Lecter, and Sherlock Holmes were meant to be Psychopaths of some kind.
A Sociopath would be someone like The Joker, if you believe he wasn't born as twisted as he is, or Patrick Bateman.

When JD is talking about Westerberg being a representation of society, I love how you can see Veronica feeling more and more upset about the whole situation. When she tries talking to him logically, she steps forward while he steps away. It's almost like he doesn't want do face what he's doing (almost like he's running away) I just found that part in particular to be really cool and interesting. :3

He was the way he was because he let his emotions take over. He genuinely could have been a good person, but he was never given the chance by others but more importantly, he wasn’t given the chance by himself.

I absolutely love the facial expressions, especially in the boiler room. While most animatics usually have veronica looking super determined and cold (nothing wrong with that, its all personal preference!) I really like how she looks hurt for just a moment when JD says he wants more tnt. It kind if solidifies their past, because she really did care about him, even if he didn't care about her in the same way

I’ve seen some really good animations of this scene. This tops them for me, not for the amount of scenes but just the artistic design of the characters is so well done it’s hard to beat.
