  • Sometimes you just want to get somewhere else and do something that the game doesn't necessarily tell you to do - including going to a part of the map that is not available to you. But why exactly you mustn't go there? Just to make things clear, we are going to take a look at bridges and tunnels that appear in GTA Trilogy, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and GTA 4.
Let us know whether you prefer if the recording should be done in original GTA Trilogy or GTA Trilogy remaster :)

I'm glad they give us bits and pieces of the area at the start until we reach certain levels of progress and they treat us to a new map. I never minded it. People keep complaining about how "other franchises could do it why can't GTA". Well with all due respect, there's a reason why old GTA games still stood the test of time while the other franchises (as much as I enjoy them) are called the GTA-copy. It's all about pacing. If you have everything in this world you would just want more, if you're restricted, you'll appreciate it more when you get something new.

What about the elevator bridge in Liberty City and the ferries?
Well, the ferries were on a strike, because the workers were worried they may lose their jobs once the Callahan Bridge opens. The elevator bridge was also closed by the striking workers, who were worried they may lose their jobs because of the planned tunnel extension. In GTA III, the tunnels were obviously yet to be finished at the start of the game, while the elevator bridge's lifting mechanism reportedly broke down.

Since we included Porter Tunnel (by the way in some way related to the ferries) or Callahan Bridge, there was a lot of talking about union strikes in 1998. So we felt that it's not necessary to put Shoreside Lift Bridge since it was related to strikes as well. And besides there's not much to tell here.. maybe except radio announcements. The bridges were originally blocked because Rockstar had a thing where they wanted their playerbase to play through the story before getting the chance to explore the map. A method Rockstar abandoned partly in GTA V. I say partly because yes we have access to the entire map but we have to explore the map to open it up in the pause menu, if that made sense.

Also to note about the tunnels in GTA 3 leading to the upstate, Rockstar created them to so players felt like there was more to explore in the map. It gave the illusion that, players were not cut off from the outside world, but could not access it due to having to solve problems in Liberty City. Also, the other GTA maps like Vice City, Modern Liberty CIty, and San Andreas are attached to the mainland. Rockstar did not want to actually show how they were connected because it would make the map look bad. And, also because in these maps, they wanted the player to fully immerse themselves in the games map. Some players also believe that it gave maps the feeling of loneliness, being cut off from the outside world.

In GTA 5, Lester mentions that they are in Southern San Andreas and that the water north of Paleto Bay is actually a river. You can see evidence of this by going to the eastern side of San Andreas and looking at how unnatural the coast looks. Other reasons why we don't see the mainland on these games, tech limitations, space for the game, and like I mention above, to have a better esthetic when playing. GTA V however...I just get bored of it. It's not like there is much to do despite the secondary missions. Heck, even collectibles feel like they give mediocre rewards. The "alien" buggy looks odd and cool but I don't see it as a proper reward, the notes give you I think it was 10 bucks and the nuclear waste is the most "rewarding" in terms of money (but I don't remember if the quest alone is enough to recover the money spent on the dock).
Back in San Andreas we unlocked cars for doing certain secondary quests, free amo/weapons for certain collectibles, heck. 100%ing the game gave you a frickin' tank and a hydra (things you can access more easily in GTA V so eh).

You assume that the Ghost town is part of Liberty city, that is incorrect. Ghost down was not intended to be found. It is a prop to the opening mission. In the opening mission, a newspaper article is also displayed which says that the protagonist was convicted and was being sent to a Penitentiary. To be convicted would mean that he has gone through the whole court process before being found guilty, which can take several years. So the 'Ghost town' displayed in the opening scene is in the same Liberty City, but several years earlier. In that time, changes had been made to the Liberty City streetscape to make the exact location unrecognisable. It must have happened at some point between 1992 and 1998, after he left San Andreas but before Toni Cipriani stepped off the Bus. It is not located around Saint Mark's Bistro, as this was present relatively unchanged in GTA SA, nor around Luigi's Club which was featured in GTA SA The Introduction

@@gabrielmartines3510 Please actually watch/play the Intro mission. The Lore is all explained in there. The Police Databases were hacked to delete the identification of the missing felons, and they think that the missing convicted felons might have even died in the explosion with their remains falling into the river. That explains why there wasn't immediate police attention after the scene.
Of course, the Police would aggressively go after someone freely committing serious crimes in public. But that is because they are committing serious crimes, not because they necessarily know who the person is or that they are an escaped convict, but because they are actively committing serious crimes in public which must be stopped.
There are certain liberties which need to be taken in the world of a video game compared to real life to make the game fun. It is a game, not a simulator. Time in GTA3 moves much faster than real life. What seems like 1 minute to us is actually 1 hour in Liberty City. So to us, it seems like there are 24 minutes in a day. This is why the Police seem to lose interest quickly because the cases go cold faster. They are also very incompetent, corrupt, and have short memories.
If the game was designed your way, there would be a non-stop Wanted Level. I am not saying that it would be a bad game mechanic to have, but that just isn't part of the game.
A lot of figures in criminal organisations are put under surveillance rather than being actively pursued, many are not pursued at all because there are too many criminals out there to catch them all. This is particularly true for the underbelly of Liberty City which is filled with criminals.
And even though Claude never comes across an NPC who is just as psycho in Public as he is, they still exist- Toni Cipriani was a Psycho doing the same kind of thing year earlier, and possibly CJ as well (we only know for sure that he did Carjackings in LC).

@HEY!YO!IT'S!RAZORCLA(E)W You make a good point, but this is literally how the story goes. The newspaper story doesn't lie, he got CONVICTED. That means he got found guilty in court. The newspaper story in the game even says that. Now you're telling me that somehow Liberty City somehow gives speedy trials and whole parts of the city can be knocked down and replaced overnight? Why have any backstory at all? Why do GTAs feature Prisons if it is impossible for anyone to ever go to one? I am just explaining what the backstory actually is, is unrealistic as it may be, that is the story.

Thanks for taking a part in discussion! We'll gladly comment on your statement 🙂 We are assuming that Ghost Town is a part of Liberty City due to the fact that the intro happened in Liberty City. We have to admit that we are not experts in terms of how long the court process could take, but knowing that Claude has committed this crime without any doubts, would this still take years to find him guilty? We mean there are cameras which might be enough proof of him being there. We don't even know whether he killed a civilian in there, but that's a possibility. And probably a long process could take place if Claude had a very good lawyer, but we don't think he could considering he was knew in Liberty City. To support our way of thinking, please take a look at Liberty Tree article that was published on 18th October 2001 (link -> gta.fandom.com/wiki/Liberty_Tree/Have_You_Seen_This_Woman%3F?so=search) Among other things it is written that "The FBI have been after this woman for several years now, following a string of robberies in Texas and New Mexico, and now believe she may have relocated to Liberty City, possibly with an accomplice." This part of article clearly states that now, that is October 2001, the couple has moved to Liberty City very recently, taking into consideration that they found flight ticket to Francis International Airport last week. Let us know about this Cheers!

Yes, however in the old gta games they do not put INVISIBLE SNIPERS to stop you from exploring a certain area of the map. *cough cough RDR2 cough*
