- Tom Izzo responds to reporters questions about the 2/20/22 Michigan-Wisconsin postgame incident involving Wolverine's head coach Juwan Howard during Izzo's weekly press conference on Monday, February 21, 2022.
I'm a KY fan, but I am now a fan of Tom Izzo too. CLASS ACT.
I am a Razorback fan but I agree with you Tom Izzo is topnotch
Same here. I'm a lifelong KY fan but this is coach. This is how every coach should be, so classy, and yes, I'm a fan now of TI and MS.
Respect, coach. Wish more folks discussed things this way.
"Unlike a lot of people in the world, I'm not gonna comment on something I don't know anything about."
Wish we were all as wise as Tom.
But he did comment.
@@Laid2Sleep He was asked.
@@ericacrawford435 I understand, but just because you were asked doesn't mean you have to comment on it. If he really didn't want to comment, he could have said, " No comment." He didn't do that because he himself doesn't have the most non-violent, let things go type attitude. He used this as a way to appear wise, under control, and morally good. It was almost like a PR move. I'm not saying he's a bad person, but he has a controversial history just like Bobby Knight.
@@Laid2Sleep Please explain his "controversial history". This is going to be good...
@@Laid2Sleep He commented on what he saw, but acknowledged there was plenty that happened within the entire incident that he couldn't possibly know or understand at that time.
If you watched the video, it was pretty clear that was what he was referring to about not commenting on.
Tom Izzo, spoken like the true professional you are. That’s exactly why I respect you so much. Your a class act and a true professional. Let’s go Michigan State!
Izzo is so in-tune with people, life, basketball and he is spot on the way he talks through this situation. People are so quick to judge. None of us really know what happened. Tempers flared and as much as I’m not a UofM fan and don’t agree with any physical altercation, let’s let the league research this out, talk to both coaches and come to some resolution.
Everything goes viral and everyone has an opinion and are so quick to judge.
Tom Izzo is one of absolute favorite coaches and people. Character & integrity are at the core of this wonderful man.
not an MSU fan by any aspect, however, Tom Izzo is amazing in this interview. Much respect to him and his program.
Same here. Wolverines all the way! But yes, Tom Izzo is great in many ways.
Izzo is right on. Everyone always talks about respect, but you need to show respect to receive respect. It’s the old do on to others as you would have them do unto you.
These are the first comments where I saw common sense approach to sports and high stakes competition. Juwan should be suspended. If rest of the year is needed. Cool. But fired nah!
@@mauricebrown1277 Izzo is one of the guys with integrity. Not many seemingly.
Coach Izzo is spot on how things between Howard and the Wisconsin Coach. I really pray things work themselves out. The key thing is the fact Izzo stated that we have an obligation to remain professional and to show Team work.
I am even more impressed with Tom Izzo. Wow, what can I say. Well said!
Much respect to Coach Izzo, from a Terp.
Class act Tom Izzo 👏
I love Izzo, a very wise and measured dude.
Izzo = National treasure.
Fabulous responses!
I honestly do not follow college basketball much. And I know very little about Tom Izzo (but have heard his name in the basketball world). This interview/speech gained him a new follower for the respect he has and the UNbiased opinion he has UNTIL he knows all the facts and reasons of why it happened. He states the truth...it was not good for the game. PERIOD. Thanks Coach being respectful and honest.
How lucky, MSU basketball players, to be coached by Tom Izzo. Making Spartans Proud..
A real class act!
Tim Izzo's reaction was the most intelligent and measured, than ALL the other talking heads I've seen and heard over the last 24 hours! Congrats to him!
It is really hard not to like Tom Izzo. He is just good people.
ILLINI fan here ... but mad respect for Coach Izzo !!!
Exceptional! Coach Iz
As a long time big ten fan, I was a bit sad when Judd retired. I wondered what would mich st do to replace him. Tom Izzo deserves the respect he has earned. Total class. You can tell by his passions that his priorities are right and he has a moral compass.
Izzo is a living legend
Can’t imagine Tom Izzo throwing hands
Great speech!!!
From a great person obviously...
This Buckeye thinks Tom Izzo is pure class.
Make that two!
Tom Izzo is a high class coach, and to say that as a Michigan fan is hard. But as a coach you are there to teach and help your players grow. Tom does exactly that and I have Respect for that!!💛💛
We need more people like this to step up and say these types of things about the state of our country. Thanks Coach Izzo.
Amen Tom!
Don't really know Tom Izzo, but after that, I respect him.
He has always been someone I would want my Son to play for.
Class act.
I've always respected how Coach Izzo does his job, I just hate it that MSU is always good. As a Badgers fan & watching the game some people would say I'm biased. But these athletes are still young men & Coach Gard was still coaching as was Coach Howard up until the final horn. It's kind of a "black eye" on the conference right now. I'm with Izzo, I cheer for B1G when the Badgers aren't playing. Academics & sportsmanship makes the B1G Conference special.
Not trying to sound like a hater, but Tom Izzo is a major leaguer and this interview was a 50 MPH pitch down the middle. He said the right things. Moving on…
I love this coach. I a Michigan State fan from now on. A honest coach that spoke an honest word.
In Tom Izzo's mind he is like I AINT GOT NOTHING 2 DO WITH IT. LMAO. But he is speaking straight up facts
Never heard Coach Izzo speak since I don't watch college football but this guy is such a class act. Now I see why Coach Nick Saban is good friends with Coach Izzo.
Izzo coaches basketball lol
I love how he says he has no comment and then for 15 minutes he comments.
🤣🤣🤣
He’s a great coach. I wasn’t ridiculing him. Just found it funny that he says no comment and comments, comments and comments.
@@mikehouser9721 No I get understand, it was still hilarious. I was thinking damn he said he didn't want to comment.
I think he was trying to explain why he wouldn't render a judgement on what was on the video. But I suppose that is still a comment
@@mikeh39 Yes we know. We were having a laugh.
I have nothing but respect for this guy! Classy!!!
T to the IZZO!
Izzo is awesome
I have always liked Tom Izzo , but he just hit the Bair on the head.
Good job coach.
Hope Wisconsin and Michigan meet in the tournament! The coaches can give the finger across the court!
Michigan won't make the tournament, though.
Would love it to be in big ten tournament
Hoping they don’t get to the madness
Lol Michigan won’t make the tournament
Lol! Your a funny guy!
Not an Izzo fan but he was right on in his comments.
That last line Coach Izzo said was the best line.
Tom is keeping his mouth tight.staying out of this
Luv coach he’s old skool and I see why he can coach any kid from any background luv coach
Tom Izzo for President 2024 from an LSU alum
It's always IZZONE time in Michigan
Hey Meat Chicken THIS IS A QUALITY GUY/COACH!
A true Michigan Man
State of Michigan Man
Not my fav coach, but gotta love his expression and words when he said what would happen if some other team doesn't want to shake hands. Especially the sigh of disgust and shaking head. Totally agree with that take on getting rid of the post-game hand shaking.
He's a class act.
Juwan has to remember that he will forever be apart of the vaunted FAB FIVE and he must always stay composed and set the proper leadership example at ALL times. Might be unfair but it's the reality...
No class at michigan
Class
What kind of society have we become that taking away the handshake line is something that is being discussed? We need another Great Awakening in these United States.
You just commented on it...can't have it both ways.
Ps LESSONS need to be learned.
Whoever did the audio on this needs to be disciplined
Izzo : only the Ivy League is better academically.
Patriot League : has entered the chat.
UVM 💚
Perfect would have been let the coaches talk it out. And leave it between them .
Easy to see. Why players love to play for coach izzo
An eloquent “tap dance!” You’re a great coach, but you could obviously be just as good as a politician!
Or he has common sense. It's not his business, he have his opinion and he let left it at that.
LET'S NOT POLITICAL INTO THIS SHIT!!!!👎
Umm... He said he didnt know the particulars of what set this off so he did not want to pass judgement, which is smart. He nailed it when he said with media and general public are so quick to judge that kind of thing is creating all kinds of issues, instead of just letting facts come out before we all start commenting.
Where are the criminal charges against Juwan? Why can he hit people when the rest of us would go to jail.
Tom Izzo is a really smart coach. Is he perfect, no and he will be the first to admit that. I think he is one of the best college coaches in the country. Juwan Howard, not.
Make shots!
You can't take Michigan anywhere.
Toms getting to sound like the "Get off my lawn", Turn down that music, Cut your hair dude as he gets older.
Hall of fame legend unlike Juwan Howard
I bet Michigan wish they had Michigan St head coach... Nah they probably happy with what happened 🤣
lol not that drama queen. But let's be honest if Izzo was at UofM he would have won more championships.
@@Cadet1008 I bet UK doesn't schedule them for a long time after this...
Permanent time out for Juwan
Izzo is correct. He knows nothing about it, and he has no place as a mentor here
New wwe tag team, juwan Howard and will smith, the BITCHSLAPPERS😹😹
With Juwan Howard's past incidents, this last one has proven one thing: just because you can play the game well (and he was obviously an outstanding player) doesn't mean that you can coach it well. Howard has exhibited over the past couple of years that he lacks the maturity and self control necessary to be a leader and mentor to young men. He's just not cut out for coaching at the college level and the sooner Michigan realizes this and cuts him loose, the better. He's a liability for the team, the school, the conference and the sport. I don't wish him any ill will; I hope he gets some help with his anger issues so it doesn't negatively affect the rest of his life.
Im sure Tom understands this… he has always berrated & put hands on his players… & its ok…. Thats what Tom & his players do! .. everyone says… 🤷♂️
Oh boy! He grabbed the back of some kids jersey. Such abuse! I wonder if the kid needed therapy after that. I guess of Tom just went around the league threatning and slapping coaches that would be considered acceptable.
Juwan Howard should be fired if NOT then suspended for the year for what he did and caused. All the other coach did was put in his backups then called time out.. WTF... Grow up and get a life...
So you’re just ignoring that the other coach impeded him walking away by grabbing his arm when Howard was obviously already upset. Howard is wrong for responding the way he did but Guard should’ve walked away as welll
Relax Victor
Sorry Tom...Get rid of the Hand Shake line. We never used to have it for years and got along just fine. Until the Soccer and Participation Trophy mentalities took over.
Juwan "the thug" coward represents thug mentality, how many times is UM going to let this go on....wtf
Never had a reason before this to think Howard was a thug. Have not met him, but I have heard that those who knew him while a student believed he was a decent guy, and that was the only one of the Fab Five they had good things to say about.
However, Howard thinking Greg Gard was a threat to him, that is ridiculous. Howard was out of control and wrong. If he owns that, I might let him stay. Otherwise, I would fire him. There are limits to conduct. When you broach them, admit it. Howard made excuses yesterday. No one else was swinging or threatened violence. His excuses indicated he was not learning anything or admitting fault. And, he should have a short time to do it, about out now, or he should be fired.
You need to look at the tape.
@@bwillis7746 Seen it a few times. Gard is trying to talk. Howard grabs him, his shirt and wags his finger at Gard. Nothing in Gard's posture or movements is aggressive. Howard is with his grab and finger wagging. If it stopped there, no issue, but Howard swings, no one else. Gard is not within five feet of him when Howard swings. And Krabbenhoft has his hands down, at least below his shoulders, with a couple people between them.
The rest of the season is not enough of a suspension. Moreover, I have not heard Howard own what he did, and admit he was wrong. His tantrum has cost his team, risked players being injured, and had two tossed from the next game. How does he coach and tell his players to keep their cool and heads in a game, when he cannot keep his?
@@danmc7815 So, you’re saying you did not see Gard grab Howard’s arm when Howard didn’t take it for a shake? Look again..
@@bwillis7746 Gard's actions were an attempt to get Howard's attention and shake his hand, maybe explain his thinking, but those actions show no aggression. Howard is a foot taller, outweighs Gard by a bunch, and is so athletic to have had a long NBA career. Does Gard look like he is ready to take him on? Not from what I see.
Howard grabbing his shirt, that is aggressive. But, even if you want to use Gard as an excuse, he was nowhere close to Howard when Howard swings at Krabbenhoft. Gard could not have hit Howard at that time with a ten foot pole, and Krabbenhoft is in not position to do so either. If you are going to use force to "defend" yourself, the threat must be imminent. Neither Gard nor Krabbenhoft was at the moment Howard swung an imminent threat. And, any response must be reasonable. Gard's playing patty cake is no reason for a shirt grab nevertheless a swing. If Howard was really trying to defend himself, a simple push away of Gard's arm was a suitable response.
If I were a coach in the NCAA, my simple solution would be to never shake or try to shake Howard's hand. Until Howard owned and apologized for his actions, I would not let him coach.
Yeah, what a great ‘conference,’ lol. Just go down the list of schools, the list of sordid …..! Great conference, great schools lol again.
Juwan was wrong, just makes it worse acting like a woke idiot. The Big 10 is too weak to punish him significantly, let the rolls have been reversed and Izzo would have at the least been suspended the rest of this season and part of the next, even fired.😡
Class act.
