Thank you for the beautiful explanation 😊
Very much important from NET point of view sir.
I want to thank you for setting the background of the novel. I started reading Naipaul last month. The first book I read was "India: A Wounded Civilization", the second being "A bend in the River" and now as I read "The Mimic Men" I can feel the eternity of Naipaul's exile owing to colonialism. It's actually the story of a larger collective, of peoples and races under the colonial rule.
I am an engineering student but I love literature, mostly literature that I can relate to in certain ways. I have loved the works of Jhumpa Lahiri who to some extent writes about the life of expats. Naipaul is obviously more profound and penetrating.
I will be grateful if you can suggest some more works which talk about exile and a relentless pursuit of identity which often lead us into "trapdoors of a bottomless past".
Thanks again for your amazing introduction to this dark, sad and yet fascinating and captivating novel.
I am so happy to get your feedback, especially because you are from Engineering backgroud. I often thought that non literature persons reading serious literature was a thing of the past
..when many doctors and engineers especially in Eastern India read much more than we did. I am happy to be proved wromg. For a more incisive analysis of the Exile's privileges and problems, I would suggest you to read Edward Said, by common agreement the founding father of postcolonial studies. I am sharing a short video I did on his theories of exile. The core essay is given as a link along with the video. Please check when free. czcams.com/video/w_H25LIvEHc/video.html
