    From Cormac McCarthy.
    Interviewer: Didn't you start No Country for Old Men as a screeplay?
    CM: In fact, they said, "That will never work." Years later I got it out and turned it into a novel. Didn't take long. I was at the Academy Awards with the Coens. They had a table full of awards before the evening was over, sitting there like beer cans. One of the first awards that they got was for Best Screenplay, and Ethan came back and he said to me, "Well, I didn't do anything, but I'm keeping it."

      @panatronicfreud6484 Před 10 lety +8

      Maybe, but I think Paul Thomas Anderson needs to modulate his effects. His movies, in my opinion, sometimes trade on out-sized, inauthentic emotions. Magnolia is one of the most annoying movies I have ever seen. But I loved Hard Eight and liked Boogie Nights a lot. But the flaws in Boogie Nights are amplified in Anderson's other movies.
      Of course, this is just how I see it, which probably has as more to do with my temperament than Anderson's. I have heard the criticisms of the Coen Brothers -- rampant misanthropy, too rigid storyboarding -- and the criticisms are fair. But, rightly or wrongly, I like understated movie emotions and clever camerawork. When emotions do bubble up in a Coens movie, it feels more real to me. How often do people really cry, wail and holler like they do in a PT Anderson movie anyway?
      I think the Coen Brothers are like a more humorous Kubrick, Paul Thomas Anderson more like, say, Douglas Sirk.

    sucks that There Will Be Blood had to compete against an equally incredible movie, they both truly deserved every award they got nominated for, like it's the one situation where a tie would be the best outcome

    Although I believe There Will Be Blood was the true best picture of 2007, I will admit that No Country for Old Men had the better writing.

    Coen Brothers hardly changed a word from novel,while PTA basically wrote everything and had nothing to do with the novel.This is bullshit.
