All of these depictions of Mickey are illegal, it shows how much Americans don’t understand their own intellectual property laws, all these games are still illegal, only the films are legal NOT THE CHARACTERS IN ANY FORM, they’re design marked and all of these games and new movies will be taken down if they are not in parody or fair use which COMMERCIAL USE IS NOT LEGAL
Props to yall for specifying which version of mickey entered public domain unlike cbs which had a clickbait title.
None of them did they’re all design marked!

So we're finally going to get the version of Epic Mickey that the concept art suggested?
hopefully
we will soon because Oswald is public domain too
Well no, the public domain that released only allows us to use details from the original "steam boat Willy" so we cant even give him color.
@@sbp1763 Disney trade marked Oswald and rabbit so you can’t call your character Oswald the rabbit. You will have to redesign him to make him different from Disney version.
No you can’t create epic Mickey because that is modern Mickey Mouse and modern Mickey Mouse is trademark by Disney.
And next year, the comic strip version of Popeye enters the public domain.
Oh that’s nice
But he is too masculine

Mack the Knife's in the public domain now? I wonder if that means McDonald's can let Mac Tonight sing his classic jingle again.
Probably not, since he's more recognized now as Moon Man, who's.............not exactly the best icon for advertising.

This is frankly incredible news since this means films with low budgets can source from these new public domain sources for music and stock footage. Glad Disney’s bribing of the gov to extend the time in which public domain enters effect finally stopped
Disney is not the economic powerhouse it once was. They make good money, sure, but they don't have the political influence or even mindshare they once had.
We need a Colorized version of Steamboat Willie!
That would be cool but unfortunately we'll have to wait a couple more years until the first collard versions of mickey mouse enters public domain but until then the only mickey mouse we can use is the steam boat Wille version
We have since the promotion material of steamboat willy was colored
@tobyzilla2.074 nope you can still use color. Just cant have mickey in red pants like the modern design.
I love just how quickly the internet responded to Mickey going public domain 😂
Within an instant "hey guys here's a Mickey Mouse boomer shooter"
The original Mickey Mouse flim also featured in steamboat silly for Disney series featuring Mickey and other characters
Why do people take the most simple and harmless happy things and turn them into horror?
Have you _met_ young men??
Because why not😂😂😂
why ruin good classic with stupidity@@rhysmendozavilla2378
because that's funny mostly. The winnie the pooh movie was garbage but the Mickey mouse horror game will probably be decent
For the lolz. I mean anyone is allowed to use Winnie The Pooh and the steamboat willie Mickey for whatever they want now so why hold back?
Many people are already taking advantage of this opportunity!
Good for them, let the creativity flow.
0:38 Hey 3Cfilms!

95 years is way too long for getting into public domain. 30-50 years would make more sense.
I believe that's what it used to be before Disney lobbied the government to extend it.
Normally 70 years
Make it 70
I agree.
That's how it used to be. In fact it used to be 14 years, but Disney has extended the copyright laws every few decades.
Winnie and the Pooh Blood & Honey was a box office hit grossing $5.2 million worldwide against a $100,000 very successful independent film ever ⭐🍿
Sad.
Public domain is a good thing for creativity.
It allowed Disney to make most of their movies which were literally based on public domain stories.
And it allowed them to do whatever they want with the characters from those stories.
For example The Jungle Book is a public domain book, Disney made a movie out of it in 1967 and then in 1990 they took the characters from it and made something completely different.
TaleSpin, (which in my opinion is actually more interesting than The Jungle Book) would not have existed without public domain.
Quick question for the legal minds out there, Because of that "Blood and Honey" movie, does that mean Winnie-The-Pooh is no longer in public domain for 90+ years? Or is it because the original work is >95 years that I could still make a movie if I wanted to?
Anyone can make a Winnie the Pooh movie still
You can still make a Winnie the Pooh movie with characters and stories based on the original novels (released from 1926-1928). You cannot however, make a movie based on the Disney specific version of Winnie the Pooh (his red shirt). Now Blood and Honey has come out, you cannot make a movie based on that film and that specific story (and Winnie with his crazy shirt there). You are still able to make a Winnie the Pooh movie (eg Winnie the Pooh in space) so long as it doesn’t use those as stated above. Rather unhelpfully, whilst Tigger has entered the public domain, there was a misrepresentation by the news article here by showing Disneys Tigger. You can put Tigger in your film SO LONG as it is the Tigger from the first novel Tigger appeared in. You can alter Tigger however you want so long as it is not the same as any other Tigger come out after the original Tigger novel was introduced (I.e. you CANNOT use the Disney or Blood and Honey version of Winnie, Piglet, Tigger etc).
@RyanDYou I'm not a copyright expert, though I have read Title 17. My reading and interpretation is that Disney's versioning is itself ineligible for copyright defense for the very reason that it's superficial changes are form, not content. Thus, in my nonexpert opinion, they are not protected. It seemed to me that Disney's strategy had been to use its deep pockets to bully people at the court level.
Any body can make a movie or cartoon of Winnie the Pooh you just can’t give him a red shirt because the red shirt is trademark by Disney or video game.
Winnie the Pooh is public domain only the naked version of Winnie the Pooh is public domain the one with the red shirt is trademark by Disney.
Things involving Mickey will be interesting!
Just wait to yall see a horror themed axing Steamboat Willie on the big screen soon enough.....
They should stop doing that horror movies by using walt Disney characters, that's destroying his legacy.
I've been his fan all my life ahead of time, Including childhood.... Now people stealing his ideas to create their own character out of horror movie.... They're nothing but traitors they better not destroy lives of people who inspire walt Disney.
Facts💯
it's better if this character is being used by fans than by Disney themselves.

I own the Parrot, and gave him the name "Quidsie"
I'm not so sure Disney lost this one however. I mean real talk wasn't there a trademark issue with Disney making the Steam Boat reel apart of their logo. That people weren't able to get past.
Nope.
every only mentions being able to use the Steamboat Willie version of Mickey and Minnie but nobody mentions being able to use the steamboat willie version of Pete.
I couldn’t have been more happy about it😊👍
Universal Music Group Umg will copyright claim the audio. The video cannot be monetised on CZcams. The copyright expired in the USA. But I would check about other areas.
Rule 66 if it’s public domain make a horror movie about it
There's a horror movie for "willie" too
Two actually.
Micky’s mouse trap, and another one made by the guys responsible for that one movie with art the clown

"Infuse Nostalgia with Terror."
Yeah like thats never been done before 🙄
It still shows copyright for me when I uploaded mine yesterday 😅 We will see if it stays uploaded or not
I have a question. If i make an animation with this Mickey what stop Disney to say that it is the mordern version in that animation?
Just use the black and white one
You can use steam bot Willie Mickey and Minnie but people don't really care about Minnie
Just dont put red pants on him and keep the eyes simplistic.
Since Superman is going to enter the public domain 10 years from now, will that mean we can get anything with Superman and Mickey being in the same universe?
Yeah if someone makes it
Likely.
Superman, Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh walk into a bar...
Imagine Mickey Mouse trying to buy Far Far Away and pave through Shrek’s swamp in Shrek 5
Steamboat Willie BEER
I think Walt would have approved of this descision also.
Great
Don't make cute Disney characters into horror films that's messed up and demonic
I mean not really
I don't suppose I could get banned from the Disneyland and Walt Disney World parks just by having an image of Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse on something like a phone case for example, could I?
surprised the *95 year old pd* wasnt extended to *500 years from disneys loyayers*

Mickey Mouse should become the mascot for New York City or LA ...everyone knows mice shitanpiss on everything.
I just read that someone's making a Marquis De Sade-like, grotesque, overly sexualised comic book version of this Mickey Mouse. I'm not going to read, but I'm sooooo glad that people are slapping DIsney in the face with this xD
I assume there will be an influx of bad products tied to them just because people can now, but after the initial hype it will die down and they will only pop up very occasionally not unlike old fairy tails.
Once the Mouse, the genres becoming public domain by rumors.

“Infuse nostalgia with terror.” WHY? Don’t we have enough terror in real life? Ugggh. That’s gross
I think people are focusing on horror because it causes more impact.
But I have seen this video game on Steam called The Caribbean Sail where you sail around the world in a boat trading and fishing, that on Jan 1st just added Mickey as a secret character if you enter "Steamboat Willie" as the player's name.
So its not all horror and gore, its just the only things that are getting made that media is paying attention to happen to be the horror things.
@@LuckyBird551 That’s good to know & reassuring. Thanks for your response. 👊🏻🤩
Does nobody in here understand that it's fun to scared? Personally I wouldn't get much out of a mickey mouse horror game but stuff like dead space and alien isolation are infinitely fun for me
hardly anyone will see them lol
Hundreds of crappy horror movies are made yearly and none of them have really impacted anyone
Old works done by authors that have died nearly a century ago MUST be public domain. It needs to be legal to spread our distant past and cultural icons. much of modern history has been lost because of these copyright extensions (lobbied by disney btw) to protect their profits
Childhood characters often will get an horror twist when the audience gets older. It may be gross, but it is a fact of life. And as public domain, it’s actually good for famous characters to stay relevant with the Audience
I can't wait for the guntoting, Alfred and Jokerless, no Batmobile having, early 20th Century Punisher Batman to go public domain in 2035.
Add him to Cuphead!
Am actually sad because this is my favorite Mickey mouse version
Why are you sad though
Every time I think about Mickey Mouse at Universal Studios, I LOL inside.
Death threats? It's free, deal with it!
This is to let Disney know that the public domain is their fatality
And it was once their salvation.

Because of the EXCESSIVE copyright in USA many silent films have been lost to history, no one was allowed to distribute and digitalize them and the copyright owner was dead, so... they disappeared.

Why all these horror films based on these characters. So stupid.

"Version", lol. they can't admit they lost the right to mickey mouse, as a character.
But we can't use the Fred Moore design.
Take that Disney ha
Seems like a lack of originality to me. Come up with completely new concepts and characters instead of getting excited to rework something that exists but is no longer completely protected by copyright laws. The guy making that horrible film about some murderous Winnie the Pooh got threats cuz it’s absurd to think anyone ever wanted to see such a thing so he learned the hard way. Had he made something completely original instead of latching on to a well known entity then the hate wouldn’t have come.
I’m kind of with you, it would be nice to see new cartoons in the same or at least similar style of the original. People are free to do so and I believe that was the intended spirit of the law.
no one loses anything from this except for some Disney stock owners. early Mickey Mouse films and Sherlock Holmes are the only well-known copyrights expiring, besides them there's thousands of forgotten and lost fims/movies that can now be saved and recorded for the sake of understanding history
Disney was unoriginal for taking advantage of public domain fairytales. Now the same is gonna happen with their original works.
@@eVill420 you’re talking about saving and recording lost films and such for the sake of understanding history but what about my example of the Winnie the Pooh atrocity? That’s obviously not in line with what you’re saying and that’s my main point. Those guys took a well known entity, used the name in the title of the film, and were shocked that people got so upset about what they did to it.
Dear today’s show ,
I must admit that I am quite disappointed with your actions. You see, you have made a grave mistake and have claimed that Steamboat Willie was made in the year 2024, which is clearly incorrect as I was actually made in the year 1928. I request that this error be corrected immediately.
