Saw this group on Smothers Brothers Show in 1968. Got a crush on Thelma right away followed her career until she went out on her own and she disappeared, around 1970. She had one acting job on the old Mod Squad that I know of.
Thelma was great talent, she came from a great family,it was the recording industries greatest mistake not promoting her, what a great voice.I know ,because i went to high school with her and yes she was very attractive.Augie Bareno
Thelma was my favorite out of the group. I was so bummed when she left and when the changed the focus to just a lead singer group. Such a pretty voice and beautiful woman.
2old2Rock: thank you so much for this video. I was totally a Thelma Comacho fan and I loved this song as well as "Wishes Were Horses", "I Passed You By", "Hurry Up Love" to name a few. I am sorry Thelma left the group. In my opinion I do not like that they turned into a one man show because there was definite talent there with Thelma, Mike and Terry.
According to Mickey Jones' book "That Would Be Me", Thelma Camacho was fired from the group in the spring of 1969 after missing too many rehearsals and shows She was replaced by her roommate Mary Arnold Karen Carpenter (who was also a former New Christy Minstrel) was also considered as a replacement Kenny apparently introduced Thelma to Roger Miller and they got married. A great song
On the collection of hits for Kenny Rogers & The First Edition this song nor "I Passed You By" is included. I loved both songs very much. Maybe these were Thelma's and she didn't give permission? Anyone have "I Passed You By"? Loved her vocals.
So beautiful. I love this song. But Kenny rogers& the first edition's cd which i have isn't included. So, I have a question. Is there a CD of song which is titled "i get a funny feeling"?? If anybody know, please tell me.
@SIGNALSTAT I knew about his affair with Dian Parkinson,or just bits and pieces of it from what I read, but I think him and Dottie West were just good friends.
I ended up here by mistake, searching for What Condition My Condition Was In 'cause of The Big Lebowski film and to see if Kenny Rogers had actually sung a decent song apart from "Condition"...this must be one of the worst things I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of stuff....I looked at the comments..you guys mean to say that this group actually had their recording contract renewed after this? My God! It could have happened only in the '60s and only thanks to some serious drug use...
the first three albums before kenny outsmarted them and took over the band legally were pretty evenly distributed. Thelma had some great lead songs but always heard distinctly on many of the other tracks. She had several solo songs which were fabulous!
It’s a crime that this excellent song is not more welll known
What an incredible voice!..

She’s got a great voice. Really beautiful. Too
Yes she is, although I don't see her very often. I'm her niece.
that woman sounds BEAUTIFUL!!! What a great group!!! The sounds, the melodies, the harmonies, the outfits!! LOL

If anyone is interested, Thelma has her own jewelry shop now. Thelma's Jewelry Shoppe. Pre-made jewelry or custom jobs. =]

i like this one, thanks for posting
Thelma was an amazing singer! I wonder what The First Edition would have looked like if she had not left.
she knocks with that voice and face

A great song
For the record Kenny introduced Mary Arnold to Roger and they got married. Not Thelma Camacho.
She was never married to Roger Miller.
that woman was too hot to fire...shoulda found a way...
I used to buy all the FE albums for the photos of Thelma. I read recently that she is well, married, and making jewelry in San Diego CA.
just heard the album version for the first time and it pales in comparison. This song is fantastic the way they arranged it here
Hi FabM,
sorry, i forgot it was the third album. I have both the first and second album! Boy am I glad I bought them cause they are rare to find.
if anyone comes across "I passed you by", please post it. Another great Thelma song. Didn't the FE sing IPYB on American Bandstand?
Yes, she did. I have one record, but there are others. She is my aunt. =]
Absolutely. You're not wrong there.

Never heard this before.
Yes, on the album.
Solid
I wish their performace of I Found A Reason on here was around
Do you have
something's Burning?
So beautiful.
I love this song.

I tried looking for this song and all I can do is buy the album...I love the vinyl sound but i cant take it with me when I go places.
They put the gambler on bass!
The song is incredibly sad. I believe Thelma wrote it.
Oh man that is tough to hear. I liked the song of the First Edition after Thelma but it just wasn't the same group without her and Mike Settle.
Thanks. I corrected the title.
Gab, next time you see your aunt, tell her that I had a big crush on her, so pretty, such a sweet smile, great voice.
wow..
@SIGNALSTAT ,I wanted to ask, did Kenny and Thelma have a thing at that time?
I thought so, but I don't really know, I was too young at this time:)
LOL "the second edition of the first edition" ^^
Well and the song is as great as I pretended it would be 5*!
sounds like Andy William's variety show -
@kittyfleas It came out in 1980. I think it's ok in spots but not as good as her work with the group.
What happened I can't see the right video?
I don't think it's bad at all. I think 2old2rock is being hard on himself. It sounds just fine.
@johnny10301968 Nope he sang about 65 percent of the songs. They all sang leads except for Gene Lorenzo.
@SIGNALSTAT I knew about his affair with Dian Parkinson,or just bits and pieces of it from what I read, but I think him and Dottie West were just good friends.
Thelma Lou its THELMA LOU
@scotter420wigb Be careful what you say. He might read this and be inclined to have another facelift.

Her beautiful face draws me to this video time and time again not her singing ability or voice
but that's alright
Is this the only song where kenny rogers did'nt sing lead when the first edition were together?
the first three albums before kenny outsmarted them and took over the band legally were pretty evenly distributed. Thelma had some great lead songs but always heard distinctly on many of the other tracks. She had several solo songs which were fabulous!
She reminds me a little of Mary Tyler Moore if she wore her hair like that.
thanks, dude.
bad song, but thelma sounds great!
good video though not really my thing. a little too Petula Clark/Dionne Warwick for my taste
Karen audtioned for the FE? Wow. I'm glad she didn't.
