I thought the unboxing was totally adorable. You gave off the happiest vibe of the proverbial kid in a sweetshop when the owner isn't there, which was so good to see. The amp itself sounds very powerful and assertive "straight out of the box" ahem!
Your initial reaction and dive in to playing through it already hints at mighty possibilities to come judging from the tones you wrung out of it in such a short space of time. Can't wait to see your full in-depth review of this beast - soon I hope.

The Katana looks cool, I’ve got the Boss GT1000core and it’s insanely powerful. I recommend having a play around with the desktop software too, I bet it’ll unlock even more options. The also just released Boss Tone Exchange where you can upload sounds and share with others. Enjoy!!!

video volume is fine, had to turn it down, using powered computer speakers, lots of bass just from your phone mic, the amp sounds really good, thanks for the video

My dream bass amp is an Orange Thunderverb 200 head with a Barefaced cabinet.
This Video and David’s Video on plugging in his Guitar convinced me…. This is the one.
It’s $650 with Free shipping at Sweetwater in the US.. 60 lbs is Heavy !!!!
Really looking forward to you doing an in-depth demo. Would particularly like to know if you think it's useable gigging amp. I also understand it has a footswitch with 6 programable sounds. Certainly that would be a big plus in a live setting, right? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Wait till you discover the Tone Studio when you plug it into your computer, you can fine tune all the effects and really delve into the amp. If I ever buy a bass amp (I currently just use amp sims) I would definitely buy the Katana.
The tone you got as you were just starting out was totally amazing! The only thing that would have made it cooler was if you had begun by channeling your inner John Entwistle. “Boris The Spider” indeed! You’re already halfway there for “Dave and Cici do The Bloody ‘oo on a budget”!
The bass katana series is amazing. I'm not a bass player, and I hadn't big hopes when buying bass katana. However I already prefer it to the guitar katana :)
NICE! THE katana amps for guitars are really great amps. Especially the 100 watt model with the foot controller. I have wondered about the bass model. Just from this video, that one seems like a really good option. Yeah, definitely don't play that thing near a fault line.. lol. For a minute there it sounded like you were about to break into a version of "Road to Shambala" by Three Dog Night.

I’ve only been sent a couple of things haha! However yes very lucky, but you can certainly get there as well if you start demoing things, it just takes some time, effort and resilience to get there.

Having recently purchased a bass I am looking for an amp.
Fender rumble 500 and 200, Blackstar unity, Hartke hydrive, Peavey max and Ashdown studio 15 all look like good amps but hearing that Boss!
That thing sounds so good even if it is way to weak. I really am considering it now.
on another note, your playing is really inspiring and has earned you a sub from the New Bass Player side.

That’s awesome, congratulations!! I would definitely recommend this amp! It’s not weak at all, and is a class A/B amp, meaning it’s actually louder than other amps of the same wattage :) I’ve gigged with this amp before and it had no trouble keeping up! It’s definitely a great all rounder amp that will do any tonal job you need it to, and has the added bonus of effects which can be really inspiring :)

Does this mean it pairs well with the 50watt Katana for guitar? Correct me if I'm wrong but I've been told most bassists like to play a 350watt amp when their guitarist has a 100watt amp. Because in general the rule is approximately 4 times the wattage of a guitar amp. True or false?
Cici, lay the box on its side and slide the amp out … then it is simple to just stand it up.

how about Cici, how did you like the boss katana bas 210? I am currently between that model and an RM500 210 ashdown. I don't have a way to test this amplifier in my city and I would not want to be short of power on stage, I have no doubt that its operation is very complete, but in terms of power?
I seen your demo video aswell. I just don’t know what to do😂there’s no way I am going to make it sound as good as you. But it looks amazing. I don’t understand the power ratings aswell. I tried a peavy mini 600w head against my 200w ancient peavy mkvi and i kept the mkvi. They were as loud as each other to the ear. I am worried about how it’s going to compete with the guitar and drums in a gig…all those effects tho… so tempted
The volume can depend on which class the amp is, the Boss Katana is a class AB amp, so is louder than other amps of the same wattage :) I can say in my experience it has no issues at all keeping up live, it’s a really loud amp! Whatever you decide to do, enjoy 😊

I just bought a Katana 100 (guitar) and it's taken me a week or so of fiddling to get the jist of it and dial in some good tones after playing with katana librarian and the endless options the katana has... I don't know if the bass version is as much of a pain in the a** but I'm starting to warm up to this whole digital amp malarky... a bit...

Nice. Personally I'd be curious to see / hear it tested live and also do some recording with it to truly get a sense of how capable it is. Seems really nice, the other reviews I've seen have been positive.
I have 2 complaints about this amp. 1. The 2x10 is a joke it should have been a 1x15… 2. The power scaling standby 1w to full on 160w no in between wtf? And I guess Ill add a number 3 complaint for fun. Why not a head and let us choose a cab. My guitar head cab absolutely crushes this amp. The 2x10 is almost insulting. Im looking at swapping mine out so I dont have to run with an ext cab. Its a cool amp, and a good price, I got it on sale for 600USD. Its a good amp for a good price. The 2x10 leaves a lot to be desired. Its capable of so much more using a 1x15 cab. Thats all I have to complain about. It farts fart fart fart, as soon as you fired it up.. All fart fart fart.. Limitations of the 10” drivers… thank you for the demo.

That Amp sounded way better than I expected. Mind you think a lot is down to the playing😎.
All those Floyd and Sabbath type tones that instantly exploded out of it.
Think I had been leaning towards the Fender studio 40 etc or it’s bigger brother because of the specific amp models, but Boss seem to have managed some great tones without needing to be model specific, as it seems Vintage/Flat/Modern are perhaps enough after all.

The sound is low because I recorded this on my phone as a quick video, and I didn’t have access to my actual camera on that day (as mentioned in the video). Apologies for that.
As for cleaner sounds, 18:22 .
I was going through all of the preset sounds they had set on the amp, and all of the preset effects that came with the amp, to try it out from scratch fresh out of the box, none of these are sounds I set up myself.
The point of this video was not to demo the amp (again as mentioned in the video). :)
@@CiciVonStrangelove fair enough...I was probably a tad harsh, apologies. I got bored of the sizz and distortion ( I hate that a lot of bass review videos have so much distortion and silly slapping) and I zipped through. I’m 56 and I’m in the market for one of these amps so I want to see it reviewed properly. Of course I want to see what it can do effects wise but not all that distortion for 10 minutes. Young bass players seem to be obsessed with it....it’s a bass....it should play bass notes, not lead guitar on bass.
@@keithgray7593 No worries. The title and thumbnail does say it’s an unboxing, rather than a demo, and I did mention in the video I’ll be demoing it in the near future.
Curious to know why you’re after one of these in particular if they’re notorious for effects, and what you’re after is clean, classic bass?
As far as young bassists being obsessed with distortion, this isn’t something I’ve really come across personally, so I can’t speak for anyone else. But the reason I enjoy distortion on bass is because - while I know where I sit in a band situation, and I will always serve the music above anything, outside of that there is a whole world of lovely sounds and capabilities to be discovered with bass in a solo setting. It can make some really unique, moody, moving, aggressive (you name it) sounds and can be extremely expressive. Not just as a ‘bass’, but as a piece of music as a whole, and as an expression, which is what music is about to me. It also expresses itself differently to a guitar.
While it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, I think it would be a shame to stamp it out and for nobody to ever explore what it can do outside of what people expect from it.
Music knows best, and I trust it.
But that’s just my perspective on things for what it may be worth to you.

Jeez Louise... the way you are handling that knife is extremely dangerous. And you open the other side of the box, leave the foam on it after the box is open... turn the box upside down and simply lift the cardboard box up, the content will remain on your floor. That's how you get heavy things out of a box easily. Just saying for your next unboxing, my dear. 😁
Hiya, thank you for your concern! The reason I held the knife that way is because it was extremely awkward to hold and not really made for this kind of thing, when placing your finger on top it actually folds down and comes towards you (which it shouldn’t do), I didn’t have anything else to open it with at the time so I made do with this and cut away from myself at all times. The reason I opened the box from the top is because at the time I filmed this, I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to keep the amp as Boss sent it to me for review. There’s no way to open it from the bottom without destroying the box, which is a no no if something has to be sent back. The amp also has a solid handle on the top, which would cause it to tip over if on its head, I’m not the biggest person as you can see, so there would be no way for me to hold the amp, and lift the box higher than my head. Hope that cleared things up :)

I hope you got to keep it. My guitar Katana is hooked up to computer full time and their the most versatile amps I've had so far just for Tone Studio alone. I'll have to look in to getting a bass one and another computer soon. 😁
