Young Horse Training- Phoebe Session One

  • Hey guys! I have a couple sessions with a sweet 2-year-old warmblood, Phoebe, I've been videoing. Every horse's process is different, so if I video a few different horse, don't expect to see me doing the exact same thing. When horses are under the age of three, I prefer to do shorter sessions and really do more mental work than physical work. I'll work Phoebe a few more times before I hit the road again, but even these few episodes I'll upload you'll be able to get a little bit of an idea on how I work them.
    I talked a little bit about some of the tools I use, of course I only used one in this video, but let me know if you want a video just on the tools I use! I'd love to share that with you all of that's of interest to anyone.

    I really like the way you train horses.....trust first and the rest will follow. Phoebe did really well though I think she was most happy to have you paying attention to her with pets and soft words. Hopefully the owner will carry on with this approach as this horse is intelligent and willing.

    Hi Sam,
    Great work with Pheb's.. I think it would be great if you did a Vlog on the training tools that we use to help people that do not understand, they are only extension"s of our arms and bodies and not weapons to hurt the horses. As always, you're doing a wonderful job!! ♥️🐎

  • @gabbsis
    @gabbsis Před 4 lety

    Hi. Could someone help me? I ride horses and we have this very naughty horse that starts bolting in a trot if a new person starts to ride on him. My trainer wants me to slow him down back into the trot after the bolt but I don't how to keep balance in anything faster than the trot (the trot is still a little difficult with minor mistakes of mine). My trainer said he does this to every person that's riding him for the first time because he's trying to find a weak person that he can break and run off with. He wants to break me and is pretty much battling me into letting him do stuff I'm not asking him to do. My trainer said that I can't give in to him because if I do once he will try to not listen other times I ride him. How do I stop him from starting to bolt? Will he stop when he understands that he can't mess with me and that he has to listen to me? Should I pull as hard as I can? He understands and does what he's asked but when trying to stop he either stops fully or ignores me? Doing the one rein stop isn't an option because I don't need him to stop and my trainer said he's controllable (i stopped him a few times so I know he is) but he's just trying to be one f the cool kids... How do I slow him down? How to hold on and should I grab the reins with one hand and place the other one on the saddle? Give me information that would help me control him easier he's a really sweet horse and I love him so much.

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet  Před 4 lety +1

      You can start working with a horse when they’re just a couple weeks old. Haltering, picking up feet, leading. No physical exercise when they’re that young, but they can start being handled and learn how to be a good citizen 🙂

    What does it mean when she is snorting?

    • @sarabrittlegill9587
      @sarabrittlegill9587 Před 4 lety

      Grace Dodson usually snorting is a release of tension for the horse. Since this is her first session she’s just getting her head around new things so id expect some snorts! Mine do it when meeting new things sometimes.

  • @tazmiles444
