Put Lebron in Bird's era and Bird in LeBron's era and who do honestly think would do better. I'm from Cleveland and grateful to LeBron for the title he helped bring to the Cavs, but he is no Larry Bird.

A very common sentiment among these legends is "I fakking hate that guy but I have massive respect for him".
Which I think is one of the greatest compliment an athlete can give another athlete.
Actually disliking someone but still giving them their flowers is imo the highest form of recognition.
The ultimate "you cant deny his brilliance" expression.

The Bird story I latched on to was from Kareem. If you google Kareem, you'll find one of the most AMAZING stats you'll ever see. He was the best from high school (2-3 national championships) thru college (3 national championships) and of course 6 championships in the NBA! That GOAT stats answered when asked who he thought was 2nd to him in the claim to GOAT, while the 3 people were prodding him to chose Michael or that large "boy" LeBron and they kept prodding Kareem to select one of those greats, but Kareem rolled his eyes to the heavens and said, 'Bird! Bird could do anything he wanted, at anytime! 'Birds biggest muscle was between his ears!' He wore the us (the Lakers out!)' That is some bad sh-t!!!

When Larry started playing for the Celtics we watched every game. After the first few games watching Larry play and saying, what. Because we couldn't believe how good Bird was. We started taping every Boston game. Bird would just shut your mouth because you didn't know how he just killed everyone. I still have about 80 games on tape. We never saw anyone like him. You are crazy if you think Charles Barkley is in any way close to Draymond Green. He was consistently the best player on his team while wearing multiple jersys. He was the first 4 I could remember with the guts to stretch 3. He wasn't great his whole career but he was clutch for several years and was a bully in the paint! He was a monster on boards and became cerebral like Rodman by the end of his career. In there prime's, respectively, Charles would dominate Green. It's guaranteed.

Correction: You are referring to Larry Bird saying "You better put a brother on me" when Kurt Benson was trying to guard him when Larry went baseline and scored the game winner at the buzzer. And the back story on that is Benson was one of the reasons Bird left Indiana. Rumor has it that Benson was trying to bully Bird the first couple weeks Bird was there. So bird decided to make Benson's life miserable in the NBA when Bird arrived.

Larry stated in an interview that he was most proud of his free throw percentage stats. He was all about winning, team oriented, not stat driven. Case in point, the Legend could have easily had a quadruple double. He was 1 steal away after 3 quarters and the Celtics were up by 22 points, Larry didn't play the 4th quarter and was quoted, "I did enough damage"! Padding his stats was beneath Larry. #Legend
Y'all should check out some Lakers v Celtics final games and Dr. J's 76's v Celtics ECF in '81. Larry and the Celtics came back from a 1-3 deficit to not only win the ECF but continued on to beat the Rockets in the final for his 1st Finals trophy. That was Larry's 2nd season!! This team was before Kevin McHale, Parrish, Dennis Johnson! There is an awesome video on this titled the best UNDERDOG story ever told! And another one on the Lakers final game 4!

Parrish was listed at 7', McHale at 6'10", and Larry at 6'9"". Magic at 6'9". Standing side by side, Larry was a little taller than Magic, so The numbers for Kevin and Larry were a little on the conservative side. Charles was listed at times at 6'8", yeah, right. He was closer to 6'4" or 5". 1979 was the first year of the three point shot in the NBA, Larry's rookie season. At the time, 6'10" players just didn't shoot from long range. At his height, with that step back jumper and fade away, 39:02 with his almost behind his head shot, he was very difficult to block. Now days almost everybody is popping threes, not back then.

Spike Lee ain't no prize in the looks department, either, but who really cares, anyway. In the still pic of Bird shooting his jump shot over Domenique, who I have great respect for, and is one of my favorite players to watch, Bird was not in the greatest shape of his career, even then. Bird's feet, with his legs straight, look to be around 2 feet above the floor, with him probably coming down after releasing the shot. That's not too bad an elevation for a player a little past his prime and reputed to not be a great leaper. With his height and shooting form, this is why Bird wasn't often blocked and could get his jumper off most of the time.

The story not here is the one before the all star 3 point shoot out where Bird walked into the room and asked all the shooters " Who is coming in 2nd because I am winning this thing?". And nobody said anything. Bird won the contest and also won the contest the next 2 years = Bird entered 3 contests back to back to back, and won all 3.

Each Boston,Laker game at the Forum I'd be there..not only when Bird played.way back before Bird. I've been a Celtic fan the moment Bob Cousy was picked.followed his career at Boston College.. Bill Russell from San Francisco a Bostic Celtic ,been a Celtic fan ever since. I knew then the rest would be basketball history..one regret be not never been to Boston Garden...

Bird playing against rodman in regular season averaged 24.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.9 assists. in playoffs Bird averaged 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists. rodman's stats against Bird regular season 10.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists, post season 6.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists. Rodman wasn't any better at guarding Bird. No wonder Rodman is still jealous to this day.

LeBron could play in any era. His skills would work in any era. His athletic ability would work in any era also. Bird could play in any era also, especially the Bird before his back injury. With all of his skills, Bird was a much better athlete than people say. As a kid, I saw him pick alley-oop passes out of the air when he was in college and in the first few years as a pro, Bird used to dunk on shot blockers.

Not Larry Bird related but something in the video reminded me of the time San Antonio presented David Robinson the very controversial MVP award pregame in front of Hakeem Olajuwon. Right before game 5, David Robinson is quoted saying Hakeem is "only human and can't score 40 points every game". Hakeem isn't a trash talker with his voice... only with his play... The final result was a 21-point victory for the Rockets and Hakeem finishing with 42/9/8 to Robinson's 22 & 12. You can look up some highlights that are permanently infused into my brain. The game that ended the Spurs season Hakeem finished with 39 points, 17 boards and 5 blocks as Robinson struggled to reach 19 points on 6 of 17 shooting; only two of Robinson's six field goals were made against Hakeem.

Great job as usual Pzo. You don't tug on Supermans' cape, you don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask of the ol' lone ranger and you don't f**k aroung with Bird! I don't believe there's an actual GOAT. There are 8 or 9 guys who belong in the convo. However if you ask the Hall of Famers, they say Larry Legend. No offense to Michael, Magic, Kareem or Wilt. Love em' all!!!!

I heard said a few times about you seeing most of these highlights.. thing is though.. if you watched Birds career, like I got to.. every night was a highlight. You can fathom what it was like. Every dang night was a performance. You couldn't make a FULL documentary on the highlights of his career cause it would be a 12 year documentary. I don't see this highlight much.. a game against Clyde drexler.. they are just past half court.. not much time on the shot clock.. Clyde's on him.. Larry jumps, his head is IN Clyde's chest.. let's go of the ball, couldn't even see the hoop.. 3 pointer. Every night was a show. Don't see it nowadays. I know, every old timer talks about thier time like this.. but talk to enough old timers and they will agree with what I said about bird. Every night, every game.. something.

I grew up in South Boston in the 80's. I was 8 in 84. And of course, we disliked the Lakers from the womb. Red Auerbach would turn off the hot water after games against the Lakers. Or in June/July... no air Conditioning in the Locker rooms. He always had to have the upper hand and the Buss family did the same thing to the Celtics!!
