These calcs change depending on if you own assets, property, live with codependents, earn income or have assets in other countries, age, sex & nationality.
Its nice to think these are 1:1 comparisons, but they arent.
My $140K income in Zürich as a single man saw a total of 16% of total deductions.

I lived in the States (NYC, almost the States) and I could not get my head around the wealth inequality, the terrifying prospect of getting sick, etc etc. America is capitalism-on-crack, and it's ugly. You would also have to figure out how to compare the $ value of the 14 weeks of maternity leave and 4 weeks of vacation time that everyone gets there.

Pension Fund Contributions certainly are not taxes, Insurance may not be either depending on circumstances. In the US you have Federal & State Taxes, Property Taxes (on Homes & Autos), Social Security (like pension case above), Medical Insurance Costs and also out of pocket (medical/dental/vision) - since Switzerland provides this) to be fair you'd compare the cost of equivalent accident insurance and unemployment insurance too. You have to compare apples to apples on costs & benefits. Most Swiss get paid well relative to similar jobs in other countries too.

@@WillieFungo No, general healthcare is cheaper for everyone in case of a sickness, regular visits to the doctor, teeth treatments, etc. Since every 3rd or even 2nd person will eventually be diagnosed with cancer in their lives for example, the average treatment costs are less than what you paid in until that time. If you add other sicknesses, medications, doctors visits and regular teeth treatments, it is cheaper even for the very rich. There is a reason why the best functioning countries in the world (the US is not among the top) have that kind of healthcare.
