- In this video we bring you an insight into the wonderful world of Venetian plastering. So... what is Venetian plaster? John talks about the recent course he attended at Impera Italia and shows you the decorative wall ideas that different venetian plastering products can achieve. The three main ones that John describes are Travertino, marmorino fino and marmorino supreme. John takes a look at venetian plastering tools and finally tells you how to achieve that wonderful wax finish that showcases venetian plaster.
A huge thank you to Impera Italia for their amazing course and for making John feel so welcome. Be sure to check out the Impera Italia website and CZcams channel!

VENETIAN PLASTER: JOHN'S OVERVIEW | Build with A&E - Jak na to + styl
Its an absolute pleasure to watch someone with such a passion and knowledge for his trade talk so articulately and enthusiastically about different and new aspects of it. Johns face was beaming when he showed of his new tools. I'm curios to know though, what sort of project would you be able to put these new skills use on?. (I know you guys do some pretty top end jobs). Cheers. Del.
Hi Del,
I went on this course to not only expand my skillset, but also to be able to provide our clients with an additional service. Venetian plastering is suitable for any home, from a feature wall, to full coverage. It's a breathtaking finish which we're looking forward to offering our clients.
Thanks for watching.
All the best, John 😊
WOW never heard of Venetian plaster but it’s pretty amazing and I can see endless possibilities. Whooped with joy when I saw the “graining” tool. I used one many years ago when we first got our house. We couldn’t afford carpets so I painted all the floors. A couple were so bad we had to lay plywood as a temp fix. That’s when I painted floorboards with the graining tool. Happy memories 😁
Hi saudilass happy memories can’t beat them all the best Tony 👍
So glad to see another conscientious quality plasterer come over to the venetian side ! I have no doubt you will make us all proud John with some quality work very soon in the future. So many styles coloured and techniques in venetian there is something for every client !! Well done mate !!
Hi Karl,
Thanks for your kind words.
I'm really looking forward to getting in to the world of Venetian. It's definitely going to be an interesting journey 😁
All the best, John 😊
Quality craftsmanship always learning and expanding their skills at A&E Builders.

Hi John love the way you explained everything you take great pride in what you do stay safe 👍👍👍
Thanks Isabel 👍
brilliant and more informative than most other venetian plaster videos on youtube. i'm about to buy some for my home and im thinking about using the lucidato as that seems a bit cheaper, but im hoping to some small jobs once my confidence in it grows
Is there no end to your talent John can’t wait to see this product put to use in your videos 🏴🎄

@@BuildWithAE yeah cant wait to get started with it, cant stop looking at the different finishes and colours mind blowing stuff
@@BuildWithAE hey jonny ! hope your well, i was wondering who made up your website page for you trying to kick a page off but not sure who to go with
Great vid. What backing canvas are you using for the small framed pieces?
Great video John, I have been eyeing up one of these courses for a while, would a one day course be enough to get the grasp of things or would you advise longer, I know everyone's different but being a plasterer like yourself it's the hours of practice and technique that let's you get ahead.
Hi great video, really helpful!! Where can you buy the trowel set? Regards
Sounds good, been interested in doing the course since last year but haven't looked into it yet
Great video 👍
Go for it there are a few course options if you do a little research and its really really worth it ! Takes a lot more time and patience than the pink but so so rewarding and very cathartic. Take the leap and enjoy !!
Definitely look into Daniel! Have an awesome week 👍
Cheers I'm going to look into it probably in the new year enjoy your week 👍
Hi John,
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for,I’ve been a plasterer for 17 years, and would love to break into this type of plasterering.
How did you get on to the course?
Also where is it based?
Many thanks for the cracking video.
Awesome video! Where do I find that trowel set?
Glad you enjoyed it 😎
Check out Impera Italia's website (link below the video) and you can buy it from there.
Thanks for watching.
All the best, John 😊
Great video John, very informative. How durable is the finish compared to Artex and would you use this mainly in heritage restorations? Thanks
Glad you enjoyed the video.
The only comparative between artex and Venetian is that they are decorative finishes. Artex is mainly used as a cost effective way of finishing ceilings (I'm not a huge fan of it myself, especially when plastering over it)!
Venetian plastering is a high quality finish which can be used anywhere, even on external walls! We plan to offer it to our clients, either as a feature piece or full coverage of rooms.
With regards to durability, it can vary depending on the type of plaster you are applying. Some can be repaired if damaged, but some would need to be fully reworked.
Hope this helps.
All the best, John 😊
@@BuildWithAE Thanks for your reply. Would never have considered Venician plaster until now. Was thinking it would make a great feature in my hallway, hence durability question. It really takes some skill to apply and achieve that artistic effect. Wish you the very best with it and look forward to seeing your future work. Cheers
So well explained.. Thank you.. Just a question is the wax used on the coarse finish and then buffed.. Because the coarse plaster didn't look shinny. Is it necessary to wax the coarse plaster?
The wax I used is mainly for the glossy plasters, as it can cause hazing on textured finishes. You can use coloured waxes on textures though.
Hope this helps.
All the best, John 😊
@@BuildWithAE thanks a lot John. It would be great to see future updates on you working your magic with venetian plaster👍
Watch this space 😉
great little project for a couple grand in shipping alone for all these supposed proprietary products;)
Nice one John you were definitely paying attention in that class 😳👌🏼. Is the pod cast studio getting the Venetian treatment 😉👌🏼🧱👍🏼
Cheers guys.
Each wall will be used as a format for different segments of the podcast, and I'll be plastering two of the walls with different techniques.
It's going to be an awesome space!
All the best, John 😊
@@BuildWithAE look forward to seeing it 🧱👍🏽
👍👍
and scratch float called - frattone
why did you done the samples in white -dont see anything on this
That graining tool looks the same thing you get with a product called paint and grain....
This is just similar to the you did you other week what has been deleted
Sorry buddy but I haven't got a clue what you're referring to. Please elaborate 😎👍
Found this a difficult watch as your examples you’ve done are off/white and you have a white background.
