As the name implies, BLACK Myth Wukong is about yaoguais that betray Buddhism, and lost their ways on the journey to the Enlightenment. _The Kingdom took place in a scorching hot desert, and when the sun set, it was so hot that the water in the Kingdom started to boil. Children was too scared of the boiling sound, so at every sunset, the people of Sahali were using drums, chantings, etc... to subdue the boiling-water sound. Buddha gifted a giant drum (the one that Yellow Wind Sage plays to bring Fuban off the sand) to the Kingdom, and in return, the people of Sahali started to build temples and worship Buddha.
_As the number of Buddha temples rose, more and more people started to worship Buddha. The power of the king was falling. In order to stop it, the king destroyed temples and exiled the monks. _Fuban appeared (even though idk where this dude came from, maybe naturally, or as a punishment for the sin that the king did). The monster was lured toward the sound of the giant drum, so the people couldn't use the drum to subdue the sound of the boiling water anymore. In chapter 2, you have to collect Buddha's eyes from 6 Buddha's heads, even Fuban had another Buddha head on its back, indicating that those Buddha heads came from many destroyed temples by the king.
_Yellow Wind Sage (yes, this dude has the title of a sage, and is stronger than Wukong 💪) beat Fuban and became a savior of the kingdom. Therefore, the king worshipped this giant rat and listened to his every word. Yellow Wind Sage turned the whole kingdom to rats. So every rat yaoguai that you kill in the chapter is indeed once human. The Drunken Boar confirmed this by saying he ate some rats, and they had the aftertaste of humans.
_In the Journey to the West, Wukong couldn't beat the Sage due to the Sage could summon the strongest wind (yes, it's on the same level of The True Samadhi Fire). Only Bodhisattva Lingji (the headless monk) can resist this wind; hence, Wukong came to Lingji for help and defeated the Yellow Wind Sage in the Journey to the West.
_Back to BMW, after absorbing some power of a Wukong's relic, the Sage escaped from Lingji and beheaded him.
_All the people of Sahali turned to rats (even though the Sage was a weasel), including the king and his three sons. In order to advance to the next chapter, you have to kill the second prince (or the dad first), then the first prince. The third prince is the imprisoned dude in chapter 3 (the one that tells you to go back to jail and stop wandering around in the Pagoda Realm scene. It's the gameplay where your health casually drops by half). If you complete the third prince's side quest, he will gift you a spear to craft a weapon. His side quest is to save his four generals. Due to his belief in Buddha, he left the kingdom before the strategy. In the Journey to the West, Wukong came to another strong Buddha first (not sure what his name is in English), and coincidentally, the third prince was a discipline of this Buddha. So the third prince and four generals (bosses in chapter 3) were sent to subdue the Yellow Wind Sage first, but were beaten and jailed. Then Wukong came to Lingji for help.
