    This Ferrari 348 GT Competizione is a collector-quality example of the exceptionally rare and sought-after modern classic homologation special supercar, offered with a very well-documented maintenance history.
    Number 36 of just 50 examples produced worldwide, and one of only 8 right-hand-drive examples, boasting desirable factory performance and weight-saving upgrades, alongside a potent V8 engine coupled to a rewarding dog-leg five-speed close-ratio open-gate manual gearbox, it would make a highly notable addition to any marque enthusiast’s collection, and an involving companion for weekend drives and classic car show visits alike.

    A mate's got a slightly ropy black 348 here in Australia... he made a set of headers for it and mated it to an expensive back box from a wrecked car.
    Best (flat plane) engine I've ever heard, it sounds like a full on GT race car up top and makes the whole cabin kind of fizz as it nears redline.

    • @petei3972
      @petei3972 Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@billybats6922 They are very easy to work on yourself with only pretty basic mechanical skills. That's part of the appeal - much newer Ferraris simply aren't anything like as easy to work on at home. If you're getting a garage to do all the work then it depends a bit on where you live - here in the UK costs aren't too bad but in the US they are quite a bit higher. A belts service needs to be done about every 5 years and this should be done with the engine out, it can be done with the fuel tank taken out instead but personally I'd always get it done with the engine removed, it allows total access to the engine which the engine left in method doesn't. This can be done at home with a couple of jacks and a 'trolley' for the engine and there are plenty of vids and descriptions out there showing what to do. Personally I get the engine outs done at a garage though. As to how often I drive my 348, answer is not enough in the past couple of years. She's in getting a major service and belts change and I intend to correct that this spring though :)

    It seems that the 348 was rather unfairly maligned in its day for being more modern than the 308 and having a few issues that were ironed out after a couple of years, and later overlooked in favour of the 355. But some say the late model 348 is really the sweet spot; more modern than a 308, but not as refined and modernised as a 355. Certainly it would seem to be better value for money. Also the 348 was the first of the "Challenge" cars.

    Official power of the F355 is 380hp, but those factory power figures are not accurate per se. F355s that get past 350hp on the dyno are pretty rare, while the 348 is more consistently close to 300hp (official power figure). So roughly the power difference is 50hp, for the GTC 10-20hp less, all in all nothing close to the 100hp Chris suggests.

    No actually the last ferrari to have that dog leg, what I think you mean is the 5 speed, was the F430 up until the late 2000's when the F1 gearboxes got as fast as the manuals and offered you control of the gearbox, yet without the danger of blowing it up if you shifted wrong, a thing those manual speculators always forget, and you dont have a clutch too, so you dont have to worry about hillstarts too, Nice
    and the 348 is about 265 horsepower, the 355 is about 330, they never touched 400 and now are actually considered by some to be slow now, despite the figures of its actual real life performance saying otherwise
    and its good to know so all you need to get one of these, is get the old 348, have someone make you a few carbon bits and bobs and an exhaust, figure out what parts they took off and made Fiberglass with a fake Carbon fiber kevlar weave ontop like the F40, hence the green fiberglass filler on the interior of one of those, and your there for a fraction of the price
    Nice

      348's had a bad reputation only by word of mouth, mostly by journalists who couldn't drive them properly. The 348 demands your full attention while driving. After the Ferrari 360, the surge of newer models swept the 348 to the wayside with not much attention given to it. Then something happened here recently, that began with the soul-less battery mobiles plaguing the Earth. Car enthusiasts began digging into the archives for internal combustion Ferraris they can enjoy, and the 348 has begun to gain momentum again. (The only drawback is, 348 parts are becoming scarce and impossible to find, and with that, comes huge prices to purchase remaining parts left on mother Earth)

    Think I prefer the 355 all the same. It's just much better looking and less obviously stuck in a time period unlike the clearly 1980s designed 348. The 355 is the 348 with most of the worst problems resolved and polished.

    • @cbca6567
      @cbca6567 Před 4 měsíci

      the 355 never gave 380hp from the factory, and was good if it gave 350hp and the 5 valve engine was torque light. The 348 4 valve engine was consistently close to its 300hp and the later 348 GTB and GTC corrected all the defects of the earlier cars and added 20hp like the GTC, but its image was already tarnished by then so not many of those last cars were produced.

    The later 348 GTB and 348 GTS (compared to the original 348TB And 348TS) corrected all the problems of the earlier cars in terms of handling and added an extra 20hp like the 348 Competizione. However by that time in 1994 the 348s image was tarnished and so not many of those last series GTB/GTS cars were made. Also the 348 GT Competizione i believe weighed 90kg less than the standard car not 200kg, although it still has many details outside and inside that i like, like the split rim wheels, brakes derived from the f40 and different interior steering wheel and gear knob in aluminum.

    • @petei3972
      @petei3972 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Most people make this slight error - you’re correct that the extra 20bhp was added with the GTB and GTS (as well as most Spiders but not early Spiders which were still 300BHP) but the vast majority of the updates particularly those effecting handling were not introduced with the GTB/GTS, they were changed on the production line in November 1991 so later 1992 and 1993 registered 348 TB/TS have them. You can identify which TB and TS cars have the suspension updates by looking at the rear suspension ‘towers’ in the engine bay, early cars have 4 bolts on top of the towers, updated cars have 6. They obviously did other things to help handling such as moving the battery up front, again in late 1991.

    • @cbca6567
      @cbca6567 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@petei3972 you are right and thanks for the details but i was highlighting the comparison between the 348 GTB and the 348 GTC which have identical power; the later 348TS with corrected handling came in 92/93 but at the end of 93 the GTB/GTS was on sale and added the extra hp, not due to the exhaust as stated in the video but due to intake plenum differences. I see plenty of 348TS on sale but I hardly ever see a GTB for sale and i do not like them in red or yellow or black but that is my preference; the current GTC prices are very silly now when just few years ago they were relatively affordable because i saw one when i was not in the market for one at less than a 355. dealers buy from other dealers it seems.
