The scene, by it's core design, is meant to be frustratingly vague. The real death scene of Aerith was in the church, when she said goodbye, knowing she's about to die. This, is for setting up the absolute mind-fu*k Cloud is going to go through at the Northern Crater. All of this whisper/fate/timeline stuff is all leading to making everything past the Northern Crater as high stakes as possible. It's annoying how vague and straight up little we get for the next game, but I genuinely believe it's for the best.

I think you might have it wrong. Sephiroth and Aerith were fighting for control of the situation, but not on the sides you think.
All of this did actually happen. The rainbow effect that engulfs Cloud's sword as he parried Sephiroth's blade was the same effect shown previously when Zack made a divergent choice that splintered the timeline. Sephiroth was TRYING to allow Cloud to stop him from killing Aerith, because he knew that was the way the story was originally supposed to go. Aerith was trying to make sure events played out as in the original, knowing she would die. She'd made peace with that, and knew that her death with the White Materia was necessary to save the world from Meteor.
Sephiroth had mentioned that his goal was to absorb the Lifestream of these doomed worlds fated to die and transcend his own fate. Towards that end, he WANTED Cloud to save Aerith and create a new fracture where she lives and Meteor destroys Gaia since Holy and the Lifestream don't manifest to stop it. He intends to suck the Lifestream of this new world Cloud created with his desperate attempt to save Aerith.
However, Cloud, having created this new timeline, has his consciousness trapped between the two. He can see and speak to the Aerith who lived, while also being stuck in the reality where she died. He didn't initially realize what had happened, which is why he's not affected like the others. To him, she didn't die, but the reality is that she did in this world.
I think the devs knew that fan's biggest question at the end of Remake was whether Rebirth would let us save Aerith. But from both a fan and a plot perspective, they knew they couldn't let her live. So the idea of multiple timelines doomed to collapse into one came to be, using Zach as the bait. Aerith had to die, but since there's now a reality where she lived, they left open the option to bring her back in the 3rd game for the finale, the same way Zach returned in Rebirth.
It'll be interesting to see how they deal with Cloud's fractured consciousness; shattered by Mako and Jenova, then again by Sephiroth and split across realities. What's real, what's fake, and what's simply in another timeline? It brilliantly keeps the audience guessing because they know Cloud is an unreliable narrator, so they can't trust anything about this ending until it's confirmed one way or the other in the finale.

Great video. One thing about the part where Cloud deflects Sephiroth's sword that I don't see a lot of people talking about is the fact that Cloud steps forward to deflect the blade and is then standing behind her. What is interesting about it is that after we snap back to reality, and we see the Masamune covered in blood, Cloud is still standing behind her. Which to me means that Cloud did do something, it's not as though he simply imagined himself deflecting the blade, he did it - but the results only affected another world. In the Beagle world, the effects were probably overwritten or "corrected" by Sephiroth's Whispers.
This is the one thing about the non-Beagle worlds that I'm not sure about, which is just how physically "real" they are. There's a lot of evidence to suggest that they are "within the Lifestream" and are therefore not physically real but I do think Cloud created a World Where Aerith Was Saved, which will have some kind of significance in Part 3.

To add to that, we see the rainbow/prism effect occur, the same prism effect that occured everytime Zack made a desision, creating a branching timeline. Furthermore, where he says "Cloud doesn't see the blood", I'm inclined to believe that the POV shot of Cloud and Aerith is Tifa's POV going back and forth between two different timelines: one with her dead and one with her just passed out. However, Tifa probably doesn't realize what she sees in that moment because she thinks Aerith is dead. As for how she can see that, keep in mind that she fell into the Mako and had her own Lifestream experience. However, she doesn't continue to see it because she hasn't had as much Mako exposure as Cloud and hasn't jumped through as many "portals" as Cloud has.

Great video. Completely agree, I think part 3 is going to hit hard. They could even piece out the lifestream scene in part 3 when cloud is comatose in mideel. This could be what Zach does in part 3 interlude scenes. They have already established that cloud can peer into these lifestream worlds while he’s asleep. That way not to much is dumped all at once when tifa and cloud fall into the lifestream

Hmmmm. I have a feeling that people will hate the lifestream segment if they include other characters in it (like Zack or Aerith). I'm absolutely convinced that the majority of the fanbase loves that scene because she's the only one who helps him (making them reaffirm their reasons for their Cloud x Tifa ship). They bring this point up to justify her importance in the story of the OG game, when her actual importance happens in act 3.

@@martinaguiluz4063 No doubt that's a sticking point for some people. That's why I suggested at least for Cloud's revelations about Zach be done when Cloud is comatose in Mideel, before Cloud and Tifa fall into the lifestream together. I mean it was even hinted at with Zach telling Cloud how about we save the catching up for later. ultimately its up to the devs on how they want to structure everything, and I have faith they will knock it out of the park. As for Aerith it doesn't bother me either way. I personally think Aerith is an important enough person to both Cloud and Tifa that including her in some way doesn't ruin it for me. I love the idea of Sephiroth lying and telling Cloud that he is the one who killed Aerith. It makes sense because of how the party was kept separate with the whisper wall this time. The only problem I have with this theory is that Sephiroth threw Aeriths blood off of HIS sword onto Aerith and Cloud. If Cloud can’t remember that then it could work, but if he does remember it’s a giveaway. Her blood was on Sephiroths sword not his. Some people are even saying Cloud actually did kill Aerith this time, but again the blood being thrown onto them gives it away for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @Foxheimer
    @Foxheimer Před měsícem +4

Interesting really I completely agree about the emotional aspect of that theory but I think you some elements.
Cloud crossed a portal when the rest of the team didn’t. Putting him at an other « dimensional level » than the rest of the team.
We already had a glimpse of the burial scene when Cloud lays Aerith on the ground before fighting Jenova (take a look at her hands) it’s more like we are witnessing two or more « realities » on top of each other’s at this convergent point.
Barret pov is a bloody scene ( blood on the ground and on Aerith wrist) but Tifa sees 2 scenes a bloody and unbloody version. Already pointing to a different scenario.
Cloud sees trough his other self; in chapter 8 while sleeping and in chapter 12 being awake at that time. So what are his abilities now? Not to mention that if he can see he may hear too and the scene that follows is Marleen explaining to Zack how Aerith dies.
When do we see that green halo breaking Cloud free ?
After the 3 elements of Marleen’s descriptions appear; Aerith wakes up, she is happy to see her beloved Cloud but she dies.
What does Cloud see ? Aerith opening her eyes, smiling at him and Sephiroth landing from the sky to kill her.
A part of Cloud saw the scene and an other part of him had the description of that scene …
    Theory here:
Like you I think Cloud deflecting Sephiroth attack didn’t happen here but it was a « projection » of him saving her in the other world. Let’s not forget that Cloud in the wheelchair is not corrupted by a fake persona. And when he takes her in his arm and ask her to wake up she doesn’t have her arms on her belly like before the boss fight but along her body like she is in her bed in the other world
If Cloud can see the material world and the spiritual world it means that he is not so delusional.
Moreover Cloud remembers the promise by himself, his childhood, he brought elements of the Mt Nibel incident to Tifa after the Gongaga incident spoiling that part of the OG lifestream. He already gave us the proof he is Cloud from Tifa’s childhood. When we visit Nibelheim in Rebirth Cloud remembers Zack like he does in the OG lifestream and Cloud talks to Tifa in her bedroom about similar topic as those addressed in the OG lifestream. (Their misunderstanding when they were kids)
Pointing the fact that Cloud is already healing … that’d explain why he is on the edge. The truth in him is about to confront the fake persona. When he remembers Zack real/fake memories he doesn’t see him with the buster sword. I think seeing Zack with the buster will be the next step to break Cloud’s mind.
Sephiroth says to Aerith he underestimated her before the final fight so it implies that she was present. By the way the fight itself happens in a white area while in advent children they only talk in that white « world »
In the OG the illusion Sephiroth creates is the truth even if he tries to induce doubts and lied but the images he shows are the truth.
Is the Beagel world a « dream world » like the other but just stronger? That’d explain why so many elements from the OG lifestream are happening.
I just wanted to point out things that seems important but I maybe wrong of course.
    Thank you.

Idk, I respect your theory but I just can't like it if this turns out to be what they are planning. I prefer to think that Cloud is imagining Aerith because the trauma was so big that if he accepts she's dead, he'll break. To me, that's the best case because it would push his personality of a broken character even more, rather than he's truly seeing an Aerith but the party isn't. I hope you got my point :)

@@gabrielnovais871 I understand ! Myself I wish to see some stuff but I'm more a pragmatic kind of guy. I don't think I made a lot of theories. I just pointed some stuff that we can see in Rebirth. I really don't know what they are going to do.
They didn't have to use Aerith to make him break in the OG. But he can break down now by no longer knowing what is real or not. "If I'm not a Solider maybe I didn't save her ...".
If they want us as observer then they succeeded, many people think he is insane because of the lake scene and the final scene. "Poor Cloud when he is about to find out the truth ..."
If they want us to be shocked as Cloud will be in part 3 ( My god she is dead !) then they shouldn't have showed us the sadness, the grieves of the others with the only explanation Aerith's death. Make us believe like Cloud that she is alive. The best example to play it that way is the movie the 6th sense with Bruce Willis.
Showing Aerith on the field saying Goodbye when Cloud is not around to see her means that "she" is not an illusion. Or they played us.
About the lake scene in that game there is something off. I don't understand why they put that scene so fast after "Cloud wakes Aerith up" I mean 30 secondes after you "believing" she is alive they show you a delusional Cloud and a "spooky Aerith" moreover the final scene is going to show you the same thing; a Cloud being the only one seeing her ...
Imagine removing that scene. Cloud wakes Aerith up, Rufus scene, Zack scene, Weapons scene, robbed men scene and the final scene starts then you slowly start to understand there is something wrong with Aerith and Cloud and when you're about to question yourself "is she dead?" the end credit is rolling...
By the way the entire lake scene doesn't appear during the end credit and the only character we see by the end is Aerith, the last time we see the others (except Cloud) is during the Jenova battle cut scene and the last time we see Cloud is when he is holding Aerith in his arms.
      Different memory's flow ? I don't know lol ...

Dyne and Nanaki's emotional scenes were kinda negated & ruined by having Palmer slap his ass, Dio flex and Gi Nattak dropping lore right after. But to be fair, these are the only two emotional scenes that I thought were done way better & more emotional in the original, apart from Aerith's death, which we haven't seen yet. Thinking she is completely dead errases everything Sephiroth and the game showed us about the "worlds" and the rainbow effect that appears when a new world is created, you can see in 4:10 that the blood only appears in Clouds flashback/reflection of what happens in the original game and when we are brought into the Rebirth world Cloud lacks said blood.
There is another thing like Aerith not noticing the air generated by the turbines of the tiny bronco at the ending but when she is with Cloud she notices them and in surprised by this, the whole "Aerith is 100% dead" theory crumbles when you don’t notice these details.
Also Cloud being the only one that sees her connects with him being the only one to see the rift in the sky, she is alive in another world similar to what happened with Zack and the "main" world is in danger now because it shows a rift like the doomed one from the date and Zack’s world also worth noticing that at the end when it’s just Aerith we don’t see the rift so it could mean the word she is in isn’t in danger anymore.

That's possible. I just figured with the rift in the sky from the worlds matching the rift from the OG Lifestream Sequence, Aerith & Zacks souls being tethered to Clouds conciousness, the LS makes a Clouds subconcious that we enter via the Lifestream, as well as focusing on revealing the truth Cloud actually knows it would be the appropriate place to do it. It could delve into how she actually died. The return to the Forgotten Capital is more focused on why she died which is the White Materia. How is she stopping Meteor, What does the White Materia do, did she activate it, does she need to be alive to use it, what are the ramifications of it. That's my take on it anyway but I could see it playing out differently I just think it's been set up to happen in the LS & to me makes the most sense with what's been set up & established in Rebirth to happen there.

I don't think saying Cloud only imagined saving Aerith tracks.
The biggest evidence we have that Cloud did save Aerith is Zack's choice between getting Cloud help or stopping Biggs. We know this universe splits off into different directions when vital choices are made. Knowing that means we also know there is a world where Cloud in fact saved Aerith, just like we know there is a world where Aerith never made it out of Midgar.
Sepherioths entire goal is to collapse all the world into one, so he only has one Aerith to contend with, becuase he can beat one Aerith but as long as their are infinite Aeriths his plan can't succeed.
I think the theory that Aerith can now travel between worlds and Cloud somehow sees between worlds tracks a lot better with what happened.
HOWEVER that raises a bigger question. What IS Aerith, and exactly what were the ancients?
That being said I wouldn't expect anything from Disc 2 & 3 to be the same in Part 3... execpt for Tifa slapping TF out of Scarlett, that's a must-have.

You should watch my Not a Sequel video. It contains a bunch of developer quotes talking about how everything wont stop the OG events from continuing to happen. Also if you reach out to me on Twitter I can show you an interview that says Aerith died because it follows the OG events, & that OG was about the sudden loss of her character, & Rebirths approach was Cloud being unable to cope with the loss of her character. I saw this interview after this video was made but it's hard confirmed she is dead. Where Zack & Aerith reside isnt some living world or alternate timeline, it is something within the spirit world.

@@nostalgiaverse9892 Of course the Devs can confirm Aerith is dead. In OG she died. Confirmed.
However it's is also clear that in Remake Aerith knew of her upcoming fate not as a premonition but as a memory. This is confirmed when Marlene told Zack that Cloud has to save Aerith from the man with the sword. We see that Marlene was given one of Aerith's memories and I do say GIVEN because in Rebirth Aerith can't remember a lot of things she used to know.
Then in the ending sequence Sephiroth said she was "hiding in a world that has already accepted its fate."
      All that is mutli-verse.
What is also multi-verse is Stamp changing breeds every time the world is changed. The Devs made a very firm point of showing us Zack's Stamp isn't Remake's Stamp at the end of Remake. Stamp is even an entirely different breed from those two when Cloud and Aerith are on their Doomed Sector 5 date near the end. Cloud didn't reimagine Stamp and neither Sephiroth or Aerith would alter that detail to effect Cloud's mental state becuase it's not a detail Cloud would notice.

If there ever will be a black robe cloud, I assumed the game will have Zack being the main role of the game for a certain amount of time while introducing himself to the group and with a hint of Aerith help.
In my opinion, Zack’s death will happen as he tries to save his friend, cloud which makes the game even more emotional. Even before his death, Zack may face with Cloud in the game.
Then, it’ll be up to Tifa to save Cloud. She quoted in rebirth, “ you saved me before, now it’s my turn”. In p3 there may be another beautiful kiss scene between them two ❤😊.

5:00 check out how far away Sephiroth is standing from Cloud and Aerith. And you're seeing this from Barret's 1st person perspective. Sephiroth's sword is long but it ain't that long. Did he take 15 steps backwards after taking his sword out of the ground?
You missed the part at 5:07 where they zoom in on Tifa's eyes too. Tifa is the one seeing Aerith both with and without blood, not Cloud. They animate that being from Tifa's 1st person view deliberately.
I don't know. I think they are doing multi-world stuff again here but that's just me. Cloud being in heavy denial will of course be front and center in part 3, but I can't wait to see how they resolve the differing perspectives.

@rsoxboy I'll be honest I have no idea where the empty white Materia thing is going. I'm excited to find out, but I wouldn't get too invested with Aerith being "alive". The devs have said before, & even after Rebirth, the OG events wont be changed in a significant way. Her being alive, is a significant change. But again I am under the assumption that the worlds are spiritual in nature, which was heavily alluded to in Rebirth so its hard for me to see Aerith or Zack as "alive". They still "exist". They haven't disseminated into the LS & lost their individuality which is also the case in Advent Children.
