    PLEASE READ:
Like everyone else, we are very concered about the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. We have suspended all travels until at least late-April. However, we have decided to continue to publish videos as usual because luckily, within the past twelve months, we were able to record a lot more videos than we were able to publish. This means we will publish some older Tripreports we weren't yet able to cut and upload. And we have enough of them to continue to publish three Tripreports per week for the foreseeable future!
We ask for your apology for having to upload some older videos which are not necessarily up-to-date. As always, you can see when a video was recorded in the description. Thank you for your understanding. We wish everyone, especially those working in the aviation and travel industry, a lot of strenght in this difficult time. Remember to wash your hands and stay safe!
    Greetings from Vienna,
    David and Felix

The MD80 is a great plane! I especially love watching them rocket into the air at such a steep angle. They make similar aircraft look like they are just crawling into their ascent. If you don't get to see one after they are retired, the B 717 is a cousin to this aircraft...an upgraded DC 9. DL has all the former AirTran fleet after the Southwest merger.

Wonderful! I was lucky enough to fly on the ancestor of the MD80 series, which is the DC-9. That is when I was 10 years old, 1970 or so. Passenger bridges were non-existant at most airports, so we used to walk to the aircraft from the terminal and board through the airstairs in the back, where the whine of the APU was very loud and the smell of burnt kerosene made it hard to breath for anyone who hated it. Not for me, I loved it. I liked to sit right next to the engine, I will never forget the whining and whirring, as well the low oscillating rumble and vibrations until the rpms of the two engines synched after take-off. Seating was 5 abreast, with two seats on one side and three on the other. The cockpit door was left open while taking off and landing, You would have a good view of the cockpit if seated in the aisle seat of the three seat group. I later had the chance to ride the jump seat in the cockpit as well. It was not a seat really, it was basically a metal box with a cushion on it. Sigh, the good times! Thanks for the post.

I’ve flown on so many MD80’s I’ve long lost count. I’ve probably flown on more MD-80 flights than any other aircraft. Mostly TWA, American, Delta, Alaska, and Hawaiian. Even more than the venerable 737. It was such a popular aircraft that I mostly took it for granted for most of its life. Like many things in life, I’m appreciating it more now that it’s nearly gone, and will miss it when it is truly gone. It does make modern aircraft seem boring by comparison. Looking back, it was a super reliable plane too. A mechanical delay or cancellation was very rare with an MD-80. Although I loved the engine sounds in the back, I really enjoyed the near silent take-offs in first class. You just felt the impressive thrust pushing you back in your seat with just a very faint engine whine - felt more like a Tesla accelerating, almost as quiet too.

I flew on MD-80s with TWA...flying a STL-SAN round-trip in 1983 and STL-PDX round-trips in 1985 and 1988. I actually have a 1/200 scale model of the MD-83 I returned to STL from PDX on in 1988: N9302B. I flew Delta on one ATL-STL round-trip in 1990; I was on a 737-232 on the late night flight to STL. The legroom was generous on the 737-200 (my dad calls the 737 a "cattle car"); the same way with the 727-247 I flew back to ATL on. While we were on approach to ATL, the captain announced the score for the Falcons American Football game.

Hello. In Venezuela we usually fly in old planes like the 737-200 and the MD series, or even DC-9, because of the aviation crisis that came with the chavismo, but the point is that the legroom in the last flight I took in "Venezolana de Aviación" (the airline, in the MD-82 I think) the legroom was just amazing!! It was like business class in a 5 stars airline.

12:00 next time you're in ATL and land at concourse A/B/C, you should walk from the gate instead of taking the Plane Train-they have an interesting exhibit in the walkway about the history of the city and the people who shaped it.
