- Not long after reaching out to Nick Blasier for my XG video, Nick introduced me to Ben Friesen who's the tournament organizer and director of Cherry Blossom in Virginia. Long story short, Ben brought me out to do video for the tournament, and let me tell you, it was a blast!

Looks like you brought the nuts as far as the coffee goes lol. Will you be at Chicago Nick? I'll bring up a bag or two of Dagger Mountain Roastery from Valparaiso if you want to do a little trade. They do excellent work. We use only their coffee in our coffee beers.
And I thought my wife and I were...different... for bringing our grinder around with our favorite beans, usually a mix of vanilla nut blend with some type of independent roast for a richer bolder flavor. Very good Nick! My new coffee hero.

another great video, but most of all inspiring! as a fellow novice/beginner backgammon player, your channel really adds to the excitement of the game and has offered encouragement. everyone has to start somewhere and you have succeeded in making the learning process not feel so daunting. enjoying the bwc2023 at the moment, even though i find it hard to keep up with the plays. keep 'em coming!

Great job covering this event Jason. It gives a good overview for anyone who has ever considered participating in a backgammon tournament. I am sure there are many good players who are out there wishing to attend their first tournement, but perhaps a bit nervous about the act of actually doing it. These type of videos help. However, there are a few times, that you use terms that people may not know, like Super Jackpot. What is a Super Jackpot, how is it different from the rest of the tournament? What is at stake? The same goes for "doubles" or "chouettes". Just want to make you aware that you are talking to a lot of beginners in your videos, so whenever you are talking about new terms please take a moment to explain. We are all learning together! Keep up the great work.

I love this feedback! I'll be adding in explanantions on terminology going forward and hopefully showing as I go. It's so easy to get caught up in the terms and forget how confusing they can be. Heck, I'm confused half the time anyway, hahah. But explaining them helps me too. Cheers! 😀

I suggest you play in the advanced in Chicago. They have a Swiss format so you will be guaranteed more games. Plus you're too good to play in the novice anyway. That's more for people who are just learning the game and are new to the rules.
Hi Steven! I’m hoping to play in a higher division later this year (potentially Madison or Minnesota) My wife is going to be joining for Chicago and she’s going to play as well so we’re planning on making a fun time of it for our first tournament together. I also want to focus on novice for this first one so I can make a video about it and hopefully get beginners interested in attending tournaments for the first time. That’s the hope at least 😃
