    Wonderful talk of master Thai again. Guiding us into the pure land of the Buddha. I read his books and they are amazing. and to see himself doing all these talks, is really a great gift. like this we can see him from whereever we are, all over the world. like this we can feel him more, than in his books. his energy, his voice, the security in his talking. really a true master, a wonderful teacher, a very strong boddishattva and Buddha talking there to us, showing us the path by superior wisdom. Thay for me is a true legend living forever, anywhere, for everybody, ,he never came, he will never go :)

    I have struggled with my past deeds and have never forgiven myself..also I see daily and nightly images of my dad and dog friends dying over and over..I have self medicated with alcohol for so many years..every day I here wisdom from somewhere deep within my mind but the voice seems so far away and I just get right back into drinking..but tonight is my 3rd night without the venom because I must travel a different path and hope to find peace and happiness..Thai's voice just causes me to want to be more like him..I do not need to be a loud arrogant, sarcastic ,insecure person..I do have something within me that I admire, and that is my love for animals and all of nature..I want to discard the anger and hate and build upon my good parts...this music is causing me to get emotional..thank you for this wonderful video.

      Dianna Rimer ...I knew that when I shared my thoughts, someone might notice and be concerned...I wish that I could say that I'm making progress, but here in Florida it has been raining every day and I have given in to the darkness of depression..ashamed to admit that I am sipping (from the bottle) some rum...and the singers are expressing their unconditional love in their voices as I type my confession...I don't know what to say

      Donald, I give up the Drink in June 2012, after 30 years of "escape" drinking...I have NOT even touched a "rum filled chocolate" since. It's possible, if you logically look at what it does to your body, and your mind, and the "adventures" you have when under the "affluence of inchohol"I came to the conclusion it was the biggest: waste of time; pain in my personality, and drain on my money that had ever entered my life.
      Let it go, better things await you! Even a clearer mind that WILL grow quicker to deal with the "day" and that alone will make you stronger. Alcohol tends to incubate negative feelings, including guilt, you need to become the master not the slave to the drinks industry ...who will love you if you don't dry out! But respect yourself not the distillers. All the best and thanks for opening up...well done, as that's the first step, you are on a path of self realization.

      Jonathan Thank you Jonathan for sharing your wisdom..I have failed a few times since making that post, but I honestly feel that I so close to pulling myself up from the edge of that cliff..one reason for my continued failure is that although early in the morning, I believe that I have had enough and feeling empowered, a change slowly creeps in and then I realize that I'm going to drink again..and my higher self is just a little voice in the distance..and logic is just a little bird tweeting in the meadow...and whatever this dark force is, reinforces it's power by showing me sad images of my dad dying and of my dogs that have also died..it tells me that I will never find peace in this life, and might as well get medicated..and instead of me making a stand and firmly saying NO!...I just load up my dogs and jump in my suburban and drive to the beverage castle...just drive right in, and give the state sponsored drug dealer his money and he gives me bottles or cans of that bitter venom..and I become like Bill Murray's character in the Ground Hog Day movie all over again..ok, enough..I'm always searching for wisdom from others and you have offered some and I am willing and able to fight this and defeat the deceiver in the darkness...cast light upon it to reveal the parasitic entity that it is..So now I stand ready again armed with new weapons and a fully charged mind that CAN find peace, that CAN find happiness and that CAN thrive in this realm..thanks for your comment.

I found another nugget of truth. Colossians 3:8 in the Bible says to put off anger. The talk here says that we have the seed of anger and not to water it. I was raised as a Christian, too. Jesus taught us to love others as ourselves. He taught us not to look down on anyone, no matter their behavior or state in life. But honoring these teachings is very difficult. And at some point, reading Jesus's teachings, it became clearer and clearer to me that the Buddhist practices of meditation and thoughtful reflection and insight into the state of our own minds and hearts are the "how" of what Jesus taught.

    So timely that I am listening to this 2004 talk in these political contentious times of 2019 in the US. Thay's recounting of the Vietnam war years, communism vs non- communism, is so moving. Thay and his monks and nuns wanted only to wage Peace during those war years. They were not taking sides! He reminds us that the fear based ideology of right and left, racism, of war mongering, greed, should be met with the practice of mindfulness, and compassion. What a deep practice this is! I have been so glued to the news, and signing petition after petition these past 2 years, feeling despair. I couldn't help crying while listening to Thay's inspirational dharma talk. His years of being an exile led him to the insight of " We won't suffer if we find our true home". I now understand more deeply too what it is to be breathing in, I am home, breathing out, I have arrived. The practice transcends our anxiety,fear and anger. I can now strive to be a more effective engaged Buddhist practitioner if I vow to remember to breathe in and breathe out....mindful of the message of love, compassion for those that espouse hate and division. Thank you to the current leaders of Plum Village and associated retreat centers. Thank you to Thay, our great teacher. How blessed are we to have him in our life time. My daily prayers are sent your way as you continue to rest in your beloved homeland temple in Vietnam. I feel so much love for you Thay. Thank you.❤️🙏❤️

    Bless you Thay & Plum Village, thanks for sharing. I found the part about store and mind consciousness very helpful and in line with my own experiences. We all have a store of negative seeds in our store consciousness. What we normally do is water the mental formations further, making them stronger, generating more seeds of the same quality, and allowing them to take over our mind consciousness and ruin us. This is not the right approach...
    With our practice of mindfulness, we can call our seed of mindfulness to come up and embrace our negative mental formation tenderly. We can be there to take care of our anger, enabling ourselves to embrace it. Only then do we have a chance to understand it deeply, develop insights on it, and start to weaken, dissolve, and transform it.

    What Thay says around 1:47:20 is pretty similar to what Viktor Frankl used to say about healing and transformation.
    Frankl said: It's not the past that's holding you back. It's the future and how you undermine it today.
    So basically that means your post holds answers but the solution can only be found in the here and the now.
    This is so powerful.

      @@daniellesickini675 I believe a good practice is also: How am I weighing myself down today? Recognize the destructive thoughts. It's true that with our minds we create the world. A lot of thoughts are hard to access because they are what we see as "normal". Questioning these thoughts really helped me.

    • @monikabennett
      @monikabennett Před 2 lety +3

      @@daniellesickini675 from Victor Frankel's perspective: he had written about a Polish woman who had many of her friends and family murdered in world war ii. She had said if she mourned a day for every person, there would be more people to mourn than time in her life. However, one could also live their life with purpose in the moment and through that feel the connection to both the meaningfulness of those people, the connection to everything (spirit), and our own agency to love people in the moment. And when you love people in the moment, that weaves into the fabric of reality in a way to recontextualize the deaths (ie grieving).
