I (Lacie) want to tell you how proud we are of you guys. Just the other day Selah asked what courage was and we told her that courage is being scared of something but doing it anyway. Congratulations on having the courage to take this journey for your family. We love you guys and we would love to have you in NC but you are going to do great things where ever you land. Love and Blessings from the Dickson Family!! ❤

You made me cry. That is easy to do these days. Last month I lost my husband to the ravages of agent orange from Vietnam. We were married 50 years in August. I see my husband and I in y'all. There were times when we thought we could not go on together but, we loved each other and our children. I can see your love for each other and your boys and it really blesses my heart. I seldom comment but wanted to let y'all know how much I love your family even though I have never met you. I will be praying for y'all and never missing your videos. Good luck and Godspeed.

So wonderful that you put your priorities in each other. Good on you! Also, what a great experience for your children. I wish we had done this when the kids were little, before they turn into teens that don't want to spend time with you. I miss that age. I've been binge watching your adventure and wish you all the best. As it happens, hubby and I will be selling it all and moving to Vermont in 3 years time. We have been planning this for 7 years now, and it is getting close. I'm learning so much from you.

When my husband was still alive he was work first always. Then he got sick and died of cancer. I was left with 2 boys almost grown so we moved closer to family built a home and it's been 15 years, no debt boys grown but I'm now raising chickens intend to get goats this spring and raise them for meat. My operation will be small as I am 65 so not as energetic as I use to be. Being debt free I can do pretty much what I want so will take my time to do what I want right. Good luck on your venture cherish your family enjoy your togetherness follow your dreams.

What I like the most about it is to see you change during the last months, being in so much more harmony with yourself and with eachother. You both seems to be more compleet, in balance and free of daily stress. Even the kids look more open and free. It's so great to watch it and so obvious you made the best decision ever for your family. I wish you a new live at a new place where you will hold everything you found on your journey and find even more happyness. ❤️

Beautiful! Fear keeps us from growing! In 1968 my parents took us out of bush Alaska and we went on a trip of a lifetime! They stuck us in a station wagon and hooked up a little trailer and off we went! We traveled the western half of the US. Then we went way down into Mexico and spent the winter there. Eventually, we made our way back to Alaska. Sustainable living was the only way to live in Alaska back then. Somewhere along the line, I bought into the work smarter not harder way of thinking. Now in my 50's I am watching youtube videos to make that circle and find my way back to that life!!! Seems crazy! I love watching your videos! I found you around Christmas....probably through Roots and Refuge. Fear and failure are always an opportunity to grow.

In 1983, I had some unexpected money come in (only 1500$), and decided to take my 2 girls and dog in the Toyota truck with cap to visit my grandmother in Montana. I totally understand how scary it is. Even while planning and packing, I had to tell myself that we could turn back if it was too hard. I really wasn't sure we would go until we were on the road for a few days. We went from Maine, N.H. and Vermont to Canada, looped under the great lakes and back to Canada, out to Banff and Lake Louise, and then down to Montana. Stayed with Gram for a bit, then headed home through Yellowstone, the Badlands, and Mt. Rushmore. It was so hot in S Dakota that we decided to go north into Minnesota. So glad we did or we would have missed Pipestone Park. It ended up being our favorite. Not really a lot to see, but the feeling of peacefulness being in the place where all the tribes came to mine the catlinite for their peace pipes was tangible. Back to Canada above the Great Lakes to Niagara and home thru Northern N.Y. it was the best thing I could have done for my kids. They still talk about it. My oldest turned ten in Pipestone and we had a birthday party with the kids at the KOA campground. Snowballs in July in sun suits in Glacier Park (Amazing, like the most beautiful garden ever seen). Adventures, running out of money, and waiting for our bank to send enough to get home on, the Parisian kids, hitchhikers who stayed with us for days and gave an exhausted single mom a break. Just really wonderful memories!

My honey and I are in the process of doing the exact same thing almost. We are leaving Michigan and moving to Kentucky to rebuild our forever homestead. I was looking forward to walking away from job when we got there and focusing on the homestead but after looking at things I am close enough to retirement that it didn’t make sense for me to walk away from it. I watch everyone tell how they just walk away from their jobs and live debt free but no one ever tells how they can walk away from their 401k accounts or their retirement money they have earned and would throw away. How do you just walk away from that and not regret it or worry you won’t have the money to live on later in life ?

At your ages you can see the world with your kids and enjoy the rest of your lives with the dreams with your family. As you said if you do what everyone else does you will have what they have. Think outside the box!!! Building a long term live with friends all over the world you have to do what others will not.

I just commented on Jess's vlog about her catching you working on the video, and the look on your face being so funny, but for me waiting for the reveal is seriously more exciting than Christmas. New Years day can't get here quick enough. I'm sure that as a 46 year old woman I'm not supposed to be this impatient lol

The easiest way to quit the rat race is to cut everything down to the essentials only. I havent had a cell phone in over 3 years now and dont miss it one bit. Get rid of cable or satellite and get an off air antenna. Find alternatives to everything you have to the point where you are still comfortable. Its easy once you start and when you do your mind changes the way you approach life.

  • @4philipp

You are starting the video off with the most important subject: get debt free. But you already did good ground work when you originally bought a home. Building equity is key to financial freedom and the freedom to make decisions.
Additionally, you already bring valuable skills, not everyone is as handy as you guys.
Knowing what your goals are is also key. You can’t reach the other side of the river if that’s not the direction you are traveling.
The number one reason most people “fail” is fear. They fear success, they fear risk, they fear change, they fear to be inadequate to deal with whatever comes their way. It’s easier to stay in your miserable comfort zone than it is to change your life.
Some people need to be nudged to get going. Some will never go and yet still others don’t know how to settle and keep looking forever.
Can’t wait for your list of top 5 states. Hope Maine is in there (I’m certain you stick to warmer climates though).
