Basic training, also known as Basic Military Qualification (BMQ), will teach you the core skills and knowledge to succeed in a military environment. Throughout this course, you will be mentored by leaders who have diverse experiences and background. The four pillars of BMQ training are: professional conduct, resiliency, physical fitness, and military skills. By building inclusive teams and working together to overcome obstacles; you will build resilience and be provided every opportunity to learn the skills necessary to be successful as you transition from a civilian to a military team member. As you progress through basic training, you will learn how to conduct drill, properly handle a weapon, and apply first aid. You will also get to spend time in outside environments, where you will be given the opportunity to practice fieldcraft and apply everything you have learned in a classroom environment. Most importantly, you will live and work with other candidates of your platoon for nine weeks, working collaboratively towards the goal of being a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
I made today's video for some top tips to help you out!

If you're going to BMQ, Here are a few points:
1) On day 1/day 2: You are going to go back to your barracks at night, lie in bed and think to yourself "What on earth was I thinking coming here. This is NOT for me." I want to let you know, about 9/10 people think that. Do not ask to quit. BMQ is not forever. BMQ is a giant act, a roleplaying event. Once you finish BMQ, life in the army is pretty normal. Again, do not ask to leave.
2) You are going to notice the staff constantly angry and yelling at you and every one around you. Remember, this is a roleplaying event. They do NOT hate you and genuinely want you to succeed. They are going to go out of their way to help you pass and graduate. So don't take their yelling personally, even if it feels real. You'll see, at the end of BMQ, they'll turn off their angry face and they'll be friendly with you and may even joke around.
3) BMQ might feel dangerous. It is not, there are a lot of staff and they are watching over you like hawks. You're in good hands.
4) If you get injured, don't macho it out. It's easier to go see a doctor than to make the injury worse and have to get re-coursed. That said... Please don't abuse this over the slightest pain.
5) At 6 pm, when you are back to the barracks or shacks. The staff will go home and you will be left alone. Do not sit and mess around. Take a 20-30 minute break to decompress then get to work, preparing for the next day. If you do this, you'll be ready for next day by 9:30 pm and you will NEVER be sleep deprived.
6) Give YOUR 100%. The staff can tell if you're giving 100% or if you're slacking off. To give you an example, say you can do only 20 push ups, and john can do 40. You're at 19 push ups, struggling and giving it 100% while john is at 30 push ups and starting to slack off... John will get yelled at for slacking, you won't. Don't slack off, give it 100%, they'll know.
7) Don't give excuses or argue. What ever it is, just learn to stay quiet. When you screw up, and you will, own up to it and fix it. That's what they want to see. What ever you do, don't argue. Just do.
8) Get in shape. It'll make BMQ so much easier for you. You can still pass if you're out of shape but you'll make BMQ just so much harder for you and risk unnecessary injuries. If you don't know what to do, just jog around, do push ups and squats.
9) During BMQ, the staff will give you a command to do. You will hear "Move with a sense of urgency." Have you ever been late to class and were walking down the hall quickly? Or ever done that power walk to the bathroom because you were going to poop/pee yourself? That's the kind of speed they want you to move at. You don't have to run unless they tell you run. Get a watch and always be 5-10 minutes early.
10) Don't be an individual. Be like every one else. If you don't know what is going on, look at what your friends are doing and just copy them. Ask your friends first, don't ask the staff.
Great advice!!
@@_Matsimus_ Thanks man. I finished BMQ a few years ago, so this stuff is still pretty fresh.
@@user-nb7co9hs3g tell me about that BS tea drinking stuff i hear about
Thank you bro, will be useful!
This is bang on. Great advice.
Here's the big tip, if you go to St Jean Richelieu, QB in a few weeks:
Reprogram yourself for 10 weeks training
1) don't overthink, if some instructions don't make sense, just do it
2) do exactly what you are told from Instructors, if they say eat, go eat, if you're assigned a fire picket duty, just do it without challenging
3) do any tasks (boots polishing, weapon cleaning, inspection prep.) with other members together - teamwork
4) be social with your mates, find something small that makes you fun and laugh with your peers
5) be simple: even you're a highly educated individual, doesn't matter in BMQ
then 10 weeks fly away, you would find yourself in DEU for grad.
(Plus: if you're already physically in a good shape with the above mindset, it would be much easier, and BMQ would be joke)
I'm leaving on the 27th and couldn't be more excited, thank you for your tips.
@@THEINFERNOKID :c im going on august 3rd
@@THEINFERNOKID Oh damn that's like 3 days. Good luck man!!!
Here's my advice for everyone.
1. Set a course standard for everything from day one. Trying to impress course staff by doing something and not sharing that knowledge with the rest of your section will get you jacked up, not praised. it is better for everyone be wrong together than a few be correct.
2. Never give an excuse for why something is wrong. Simply say "It won't happen again" and ensure it doesn't. this is the difference from a small conversation on what to do next time and 4 hours of change parades.
3. Always look out for your brothers and sisters. If someone is watching weapons during a meal, make sure they eat.
this is wrong and cringe. Firstly just do as your told, dont do more dont do less, do as your told, they will jack you up even if stuff is properly done they want to mess with your head. Secondly dont tell your leadership it wont happen again, if you know its probably going to happen again, your leadership is not expecting you to be perfect. Just remember the guy making the video left the british army for some reason and then came to the canadian army........ dont listen to anything he says honestly i listened to the entire thing. You dont need to learn how to do anything, you will be taught to, dont be practicing skills like sewing and ironing before BMQ so pointless. Chances are they are going to give you new pants anyways because sewing requires a standard thats why they dont like people wearing visibly sewed clothes. Hes using such old footage in the video, and the recent stuff is completely different BMQ, remember reserve BMQ is just on weekends its different than being there everyday with 40 new people 24/7. THE ONLY ADVICE ANYONE NEEDS IS- Play nice with others.
@@leagueaccount6254 Dude, most people here are more excited than actually taking notes, my advice is to get the right mindset. When I said "It won't happen again" I was not expecting people to quote me, more of don't give excuses. Of course, they are going to teach you everything you need to know, that's the point of training. No need to attack buddy for putting up a video for people who are excited about basic. You sound like you just got your first chevron, take your own advice "play nice with others".
@@terranboot9405 i dont have to because i dont plan on joining the military but what i can tell you from what i see on the news(canadian mainstream media) and from what i hear from people leaving, i just laughable, i mean i hear that a 57 year old man graduated basic training??????? is that true??????? what self respecting country even lets a 57 year old into the military, also have you seen the pictures??? hes far from an athletic specimen. Its a waste of time video because from what i concluded from my research is that the standards are so low now its impossible to fail. They let neck tattoos no hair cuts no shaving no physical standards anymore, Bill blair said the military is in a death spiral.... and i believe him, when an army is letting 16-57 year old people apply your not in a very good place so anyways nice try bud with the entire first chevron joke. your mindset is wrong
@@leagueaccount6254 You come here to give advice you know nothing about and then criticize the whole subject when you get pushback on a garbage take. Give your head a shake.

Tips for BMQ:
-be fit prior to showing up. If you are really serious about enroling, be fit before showing up at a recruiting center.
- go without coffee, cigarettes. There will be limited quantities and limited time to consume those
- beware of recoursed people. They tend to act like they know some shit buy there is also usually more than what they tell you for the reasons they got recoursed.
- learn about silence and to keep your thoughts to yourself. That will save you and your buddies a bunch of push up (if they still do that in St-Jean)
Enjoy
All of these are great but the fourth one especially. Sometimes it pays to be the Strong Silent Type.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am told they don't do push up anymore at St.Jean lmao I asked the Capt. when I was getting recruited. But I guess I'll find out lmao. Nevertheless, be able to do at least 30.
@@IRORSCHACH 🤣🤣🤣 that True! just make a complaint then they will leave you alone. I was an instructor and I decided to retire after my posting in St Jean... these made a social club, of the army...
@IRORSCHACH yo when did you get recruited?
Just graduated from BMQ today 🫡
Congrats!!! What happens from there on though?
I’m a 17 year old South African girl that is moving to Canada in November this year! University only starts in September 2025 so I have plenty of time to kill. I want to join the military and complete the BMQ but worry that I won’t make it back in time for my studies due to what happens next. If u perhaps know what happens after the BMQ and how long it takes please do tell me more!
Once again congrats on completing ur BMQ!
@@Apple.a1101 Thank you so much!
After BMQ you go to your next base for your Trade training. It depends what trade you are so you can see yourself getting posted anywhere and if you are navy you can either go east coast or west coast. In terms of length it depends again on your trade and if there are enough people to start a course. I know some people that will have to wait several months for theirs to start. After you complete your trade qualifications you will be sent to a new base and are now a Pvt (trained). If I were you I would look into the Military reserves because you don’t have to travel around as much and can do BMQ on weekends or full time in the summer if you want. Reserves would also be a good option because it’s easy to fit around a student schedule.
Hope this helps and good luck 🫡
@@toasteddoritos380 100% looking into reserves! Do you think i can complete my BMQ in January 2025 then work as a reserve or is it mandatory that i do it in the summer? (Schools in SA work on the jan - dec schedule so im free until sept 2025 when uni starts)
@@Apple.a1101 I think you’ll be given the option as to when your BMQ will start so I would pick whichever one works best for your schedule
Congratulations :)
This is incredible timing. BMQ is in a few weeks for me in Quebec
Been waiting to hear back post-medical since midmarch. I might be with ya if recruiting can sort out their logistics.
April 20th with me?
BMQ is not a problem, just do as your told dude and honestly most of the problems you will have are probably going to be from other class members. Remember the mindset going in, you are nothing yet, you are there to learn and just trust the process
years of waiting for me unfortunately due to VIRGIN MOBILE SLAPPING ME WITH A RANDOM $2500 phone bill for no reason, no long distance calls, no long distance texts, only had people call me and not me call them, only in province calls... called multiple times they state there is inconsistencies in their report yet they havnt took a cent off..... how is that right.
@@120bank8 its kind of a silly protocol in my opinion, it seems it would be easier to let the person in and then give them a certain amount of time to pay it off. For example in your case they would enroll you, start paying you, but have your on a probationary period that states if the individual does not clear % of debt with "x" amount of time they will be removed, but in your case with the current system it looks like you will have to pay it off entirely before they let you in
Hi Mat, you are giving out good advice. What you said about keeping a journal and having photos is exactly what I miss now when I am trying to write my memories down for my family. When I did P Company in Aldershot in 1960 I was the only foreigner doing the course and for my own security I was advised by the Secret Squirrels not to put anything down on paper or have photos taken and not to give any interviews to military magazines. Good advice, but it means that I have only couple of dozen photos of my 20 year service. With the exception of photos taken when I got married and me and my best man wore our No. 1 Dress ( Blues) all I have is photos taken by my mates and a few official ones that were accidentally taken and given to me and the originals were destroyed. Times have changed, but of course in those days of the cold war we were preparing for a way way drop behind enemy lines and we had to be conscious of security. Looking back now I counted that I have worked in 23 countries and learned and forgotten fifteen languages! The Brits do get around the world! You are doing good work Mat, keep it going. Cheers mate. going to my dp1 RQ infanteer soon, so nervous and excited
I just applied for Air Force Nursing and super excited to start my career. Thank you for this video!
That was my first choice. Couldn't get the CNO to move me from non practicing to practicing fast enough. Hopefully I'll cya there! Sic itur ad astra.
I am in the application process for the Materials Technician program. This video provided great insight for me on what to sort of expect when I evetually get to the basic training part. Thank you!
Man… I hope that whomever joins better have joined for the right reasons as to joining now only ensures you’re on the first battle group. As an ex infantryman from the reg force from many moons ago and one that’s moving to the US very soon, I wish you success and good fortune being a caf member in such dire times on the many fronts.
Have to be insane to join
Hi there, currently enlisting as an Infanteer. Just a quick question, was it difficult to find a decent job upon leaving the military? I wanted to pick something that I can use for civilian life but I’m not quite sure yet as to what I want to do. Infantry is something I’ve always had an interest in, and something I personally feel I would enjoy, but not really applicable to the civilian sector for obvious reasons hahah. :)
Thank you Sgt, this video helped me a lot prepare for BMQ.
Glad it helped!
Great video! I would have never thought about learning to sew during my preparation if I do go this route.
Perfect timing this is recommended to me. I just graduated BMQ. Tomorrow evening I report to gagetown
It's been since years I wanted to join, I'm so eager! I'm just waiting for my permanent residency. I found this video very helpful.
You know first thing I did when arrived here in Canada is that I visited the museum of war in Ottawa to learn all about the history
.....#15 and 17 are very important.....good to know points.
1. I would highly suggest prior to going to BMQ is to get into shape, cardio is very important and will be important throughout your career.
2. Inspections are done to help, not hurt you. Its about listening, completing tasks and maintaining hygiene. Its about following directions and attention to detail.
3. Teamwork is HUGE!!! I can't tress this. Don't gang up on members of your platoon because you don't like them, they deserve a chance a t a good career. You are only as strong as your weakest link.
4. Ironing, yes. Maintaining your uniform is part of discipline and pride. The public sees this, your friends and family sees this and it reflects on you as a soldier and the CAF as an organization.
5. Instructors are there to support you. Be a team player, do your part and don't be a jerk. Develop friendships and learn from one another.
6. You will learn to use the C7 rifle. The drills are load, ready, unload, ready for inspection, and the function test. You will also learn how to properly disassemble, clean and re-assemble your weapon. You will do live shoots and perhaps the SAT trainer which is a video game like device to practice without having to use bullets and it's indoors.
7. Remember, you only do BMQ once and its probably ONE OF the hardest courses you will do (trade dependent).
8. Rank structure, yes learn both the Army/Airforce and Navy ranks as they are different.
9. If you get injured, don't worry. You will have a chance to recuperate and carry on with your training. If its a broken leg, you will most likely be put on a temporary medical category (TCAT), heal up and then resume with your training. At that point, you will most likely be re-coursed but it will be fine...you will get through it.
10. Taking pictures during your course...unless things have changed, you won't have your cellphone throughout the week. You should be able to bring a camera but using it will be quick and fast as its a lot of go go go. If you are caught with your cellphone, you will end up in some serious trouble. If they say you will not have access to cellphones and laptops, you will not have access to it...that's how it is.
11. During BMQ, your platoon/team needs to show the instructors you are ready to have free weekends...you earn these. One person screws up and can ruin it for all of you. I highly recommend if you have a platoon mate who is going rogue (so to say), sort this person out because he/she will drag you down. Now if the instructors see there's a rogue person, don't worry, this person will be sorted out one-on-one with the chain of command. There will be a course senior appointed, you will all have a chance to be course senior at one point. Talk to this person because he/she is your link to the instructors.
12. DON'T GO ROGUE...this is about your team's success. Work together, train together and graduate together.
13. Your course will start with probably between 45-70 people, at least 10 will be either say this is not for me and quit, some will be injured and some will be re-coursed due to injury.
14. After graduation, things will get better. There is light at the end of this madness and chaos called BMQ. LOL. You may be placed on a waiting platoon until your slated for your trade's training.
15. IMPORTANT.......Once on you complete your trade's training, you will have your first posting anywhere between British Columbia and Halifax. Close to the end of your trade's training, you will be asked for your top 3 posting preferences. A heads up, you may OR MAY NOT get what you asked for. Be prepared!!! There are times when you can get compassionate postings, you will need to inform your chain of command and the career manager about this.
16. The career manager...there are good stories and there are bad stories about how postings work and who goes where. The career manager will try to give you one of your preferences, they will try. Keep in mind they can't always do this.
17. POSTING PREFERENCES...If you want to stay in Ontario, for example, don't make your three North Bay, Borden and Halifax. This will be interpreted as "oh, I can put you anywhere". If you want North Bay, put down North Bay, Petawawa and Borden. Keep the postings together in one area.
Hope this helps :)
After bmq is done are you allowed to go home and complete the trades training on a later date ?
@@julio-jl5zc No, you will be on a waiting platoon called PRETC until you are course loaded. Once you are on course, you stay there until completion. Close to the end of the course, you will get to choose your top three posting preferences. You may or may not get what you asked for, that's a heads up. Once you find out where you are going, you will move and start at your new unit.
Thank you for the tips and a big thank you for recommend CAF Fitness I really like it, it was what I was looking for, quick exercise to improve myself.
Thank you for your service
Lots of tips here to get ready and help through out. I would like to add, on graduation day, you will feel like the king of the world. It’s the best experience you can go through, and the skills and attitude you gain will serve you the rest of your life. You are also now part of a small group of society, less than 1% will experience this.
Starting in September. Can't wait.
Excellent course, it was a lot of fun :)
I know this is just for tips but its also interesting to me as someone who writes military sci-fi without actually having any military experience.. I wanted to join the Marine commandos of my country but life just took me a different direction.

Did BMQ at 29. You can do it man.
as someone who just graduated this is great
Thank you, medical coming up for me.
I like your Take Matt
I have a few tips for people joining:
tip#1 - RESPECT
Don't talk back to any staff whether you are wrong or right, just respond with a "Yes" then their rank, but if you were told to do something different by another staff member, then just let them know the original plans and wait for their decision.
tip#2 - BE FORMAL
NEVER respond with a casual tone, for example: "Yup" "Nope" "Nah" "Yeah", just "YES" or "NO"
tip#3 - GETTING READY AT NIGHT
When I did basic training, we were usually dismissed at around 8:30pm-9:00pm and lights were off by 11pm, after dismissal always take a 10-15 minute breather (THIS DOES NOT MEAN SLACK OFF), after that take 30-45 minutes to clean your rifle (if you're at week 3 or 4 where you get it issued), 15-20 minutes to clean yourself like brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed, once everything is sorted out, you should be done by 10:15pm or about an hour and a half after dismissal. For me, I was always done around 10:15-10:30 and used the remaining time to chill, call family or slept early and wake up 4:55am and ready for the day.
tip#4: HYGENE
Please for the LOVE of GOD use a deodorant, this might seem like common sense but during my course there was quite a lot of people that didn't smell the greatest. One day, a staff caught a scent of one of our course mates and assumed (rightfully so) that he did not shower (but he just doesn't use deodorant for some odd reason), we were punished with something fun called "The Shower Parades". lets just say... FUN times.
tip#5: FIELD EX
For the field or Farnham, Bring baby wipes, spray deodorants, and hand sanitizers. Make sure to bring an extra pair of boots just incase your other one is soaked inside out. Make sure to drink a lot of water, maybe around 3-4L a day, bring a functional head lamp because the flashlights issued to us are not too good. Lastly, never leave your rifle unattended or even let your buddy hold it for you. IT has to be with you at all times.
tip#6: URGENCY
Move with a sense of urgency whenever you're walking somewhere just like how you are walking to the bathroom when you need to take a sh*t, don't look lazy because it does not look good.
tip#7: PHYSICAL TRAINING
During PT (physical training), always go 100% since it makes the staff like you and when someone is falling behind during a run or ruck give them encouragements since who knows there might be a good award for you at the end. It does not matter if you are getting out done by everyone, just never stop and keep going because that's how you build endurance and how the staff will know that you are trying your best and that's what really matters.
tip#8: TIMINGS
Always try to meet your timings, be there 5 minutes early and always know where your fireteam partner or course mates are that way, you can save time from trying to find them, the staff using their energy at yelling at you and save yourself from being yelled at.
tip#9: INJURIES
If you are hurt, notify the staff because if you don't and it gets worse to the point where you cannot do anything at all then you will have to be re-coursed. Do not abuse this by saying something "hurts" just because you are sore, 99.99% of the time everybody else is sore along with you.
tip#10: TEAMWORK, RESPECT, FRIENDSHIP (TRF)
Always work as a team, you cannot pass BMQ by yourself. You need the help of others and others need your help as well, if there is someone you don't like then you don't have to be friends with them but you can respect them because they too are on the same boat as you. Don't be rude and always try to be nice because if you're disliked by everyone then you will have a hell of a time.
tip#11: STAFF
Don't be afraid of the staff. When they shout or yell at you, most of the time they're not mad and they just want you to succeed because they have been put in that situation before. Don't be afraid to ask them for help because that's why they're for, they are not devilish people just because they yell at you but this is all just an act for them. At the end of your course, usually you see or notice yourself develop a bond with the staff where you can even be friends and crack jokes because they too are just human.
New vid=me happy.
I want to be as successful in the forces as I can so this helped a ton.
I have technology diploma from BCIT and a environmental eng. degree from UNBC. I applied for the water, fuels, and environmental technician back in 2023. I am often lazy and don't exercise much. I also just recently stopped smoking weed in fear of a drug test. I am currently in the process of passing the medical part and will go to the recruiting office on April 19. Really hope this will work out for me because it is the strongest lead I have for a good career job.
Thanks! Im leaving for BMQ in 2 days!!!
you rock!!!
I hope you know that fitness in the British Army has changed since you was in.
It's no longer lots of running, with body weight exercises.
Once you've past training, you will have to do an SCR, and a RFT each year.
Us reservists now only need to do an RFT if we are being mobilised.
I did my RFT last financial year, before they decided to change the criteria.
I passed mine with no preparation, just doing my weekly training with kettlebells, clubbells, and a bit of running.
We have some PTI posters in our drill hall, explaining the army's new method of fitness.
There one poster with the strength training recommendations.
There are basically 7 movement patterns.
The following exercises are,
•Push
•Pull
•Hinge
•Squat
•Lunge
•Rotation
•Brace
All these exercises are demonstrated with a barbell.
The army has realised there's more to strength training than simply doing press ups and sit ups.
Of course we still do running, but it isn't the main focus of fitness like it used to be.
running is also an outdated form of cardio, you can still build great cardio with exercise equipment like you mentioned-kettle bells-sandbags. Also burpees are just as good as a jog, and remember there is a whole science to running as well, proper form and everything and remember i always like to stress because i learned that running on a tread mill is not the same as running in reality lol
@@leagueaccount6254I try and do a bit of running, simply because it's part of the SCR/RFT. But I prioritise my Kettlebell and clubbell training over running. Some of the guys at my troop prefer swimming, rowing machine, and biking over running, because it causes too much impact on their body. I also hate running because I was born with flat feet, and it causes me shin sprints.
This video is awesome, many thanks. Very well spoken and informative. Going to BMQ in July.

Be clean, tidy, and learn to organise yourself. Getting ready in the morning in the dark while sleep deprived you need to lay your stuff out the night before. Don't cut corners, it doesn't help you in the long run. Learn to make your bed, don't sleep on top, this is a biggie. Anyways, best of luck to anyone going.
well i watched your videos before joining on what to expect an well it turns out you kinda cant prepare for it and not only that you can go into it completely blind and they will teach you everything you need to know when you need to know it. if anything i wish i went in more blind as that would of made it that much more fun and more difficult. plus i was not sure if i was goona be able to even complete basic... turns out it wasnt that bad and i could do it just fine. BMQ so far has been the easiest thing ive ever done.
then i did my combat engineer dp1... that i was definitely not prepared for nor did basic training prepare me for that. it was hell in the best way possible. getting so sleep fucked that i smash my face on the ground walking to the otherside of the classroom cause i blacked out, felt so painfully good. inspection so volatile and violent they got me on all 4s oinking like a pig and eating dust, forced hydration to the point i feel like i am drowning and vomit numerous times so they could beast us several hours longer ( i know this was very much against the rules and our staff regularly broke such rules to put us through even more and worse punishment but we all loved it). but it was hard and stressful but after the first 2 months i adapted and even tho it got harder i enjoyed it more, i began to love the suffering. made alot of really great friends that i will probably never forget, i felt the most alive i have ever felt on that course. now im in the real army its just doing my job. daily work and yet it still doesnt feel like work.
just embrace the suck and you will have so much fun.
Sorry that I made it harder for you lol
@_Matsimus_ lol i didnt mean it like that, i meant it made it easier to mentally transition into it. What i was saying for me is that i would of liked it better if i was not mentally prepared so that it was more difficult. The harder the better.
I'd need a trip or 2 through the pork chop platoon currently to get through bmq.
Remember its always better to screw up as group. If one person is late ....... all of the group is late...... so come down together......that will impress the staff win/lose as team period!!!.
I’m doing research rn as I am in cadets and thinking about joining the RACF once I get old enough to

You really can't hammer the teamwork part in enough. No matter what country's basic training you do you're going to meet people from all walks of life. You'll meet people from the smallest villages to the biggest cities of all wealth levels and experiences. You absolutely should never go into the military close-minded because everything is so diverse with the people you'll meet.
Joining in a year, I'll be 30 years old but in the best shape of my life and ready to serve.
sweet!
Do they expect a lot more out of you in terms of fitness for BMOQ as opposed to BMQ or is it pretty similar?
Very similar but officers are leaders right away, so set the example
@@_Matsimus_ Ok right on, I have my application started for Pilot and ACSO. My medical was sent to Ottawa about a month ago and just waiting to here back than hopefully will get booked to do my aircrew selection in Trenton. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the the 12 week Pre-BMT PSP fitness program? My recruiter recommended it to me and have been doing it for about a month and has been going pretty good so far.
Fist and foremost when you get to basic training, get to know your platoon. and get to know your group. Work as a team, with everything.
Also BFT is marked on age and gender. Example: female push ups are different from men's.
How do you feel about 13 to 19 year old joining Cadets to get some of these items down.
Im joining CAF (From Newfoundland) I want to join to serve my country & family & friends! Also this is my country I love it
You will be fighting for international finance and American corporate interests.

As a former BMQ Platoon Commander let me add one point. All these skills are great and useful, but in BMQ your Platoon Commander will deliver three lessons: Profession of Arms, Military Ethos, and Defence Ethics. You'll be tired from training but please pay attention. As a member of the armed forces you'll be entrusted with powers above regular citizens. Remember your ethics and principles, your profession, and what constitutes legal orders and directives. In your career it is realistic that you may face these deep and consequential issues that can affect the lives of many, and yourself. Outside of basic training, and even in basic training, you do not mindlessly and blindly follow orders. Remember your principles and do not let social and organizational pressures convince you otherwise.
I’m waiting to get an email to do my medical exam and interview done…what was the medical exam like…and how hard is the interview?
Great video!
Application takes so long, apply as soon as possible. You can apply to the reserves so you can study and work
@@rebecaservin i want to apply in October this year, must i specify that i would like to start in jan 2025? Also i plan to join the reserves since i will be studying, does the application differ because of that, someone mentioned reserves can only complete their BMQ during the summer?
@@Apple.a1101 They’ll work around your schedule, the nature of the reserves requires them to work around members’ schedule. Lots of people go to school while in the reserves, even kids in highschool
I was told by many soldiers and sailors that you do not need to be really physically fit for BMQ (boot camp). You just need to try and you will pass.
seems like the wrong attitude to me. what do ik tho im 17
Is swimming part of the fitness exercise especially for those who are hydrophobic?
Bmq is pretty easy aslong as you can do what your told and meet your timing, farnham isn't as bad as everyone says it is
Hi Mat. Is BMQ identical to BMOQ except for the theory and vimi?
@matsimus
my brother was in that video quite a few times.
Any advice for someone who wants to join with mild asthma? I keep hearing mixed information about it
I look at the comments on the video and there is something that I don't understand, I applied 1 year ago and I see people leaving for BMQ on April 27 and 29. When I passed the theory test at the recruitment center in October 2023, I have had no news until today since I sent 1 email last month and 1 email last week and they responded. I haven't started the medical stage yet. Am I the only one for whom recruitment takes an extremely long time?
I got booked in for my force test within 5 days after my initial interview, and my medical 2 weeks after that. June 19th and 29th respectively
Bring back real Basic training like we had in Cornawallis. This is a cake walk.
Best time of my career life was serving in the Canadian Military
hey, you said you were in united kingdom, i'm also a foreigner that want to join the CAF , how did you do to join them? do you have to stay in canada 3 years, then ask citizenship and enroll or is there another way?
thanks
Hello Sgt. How long is the trades phase for your trade? Does it have to be done in 1 full summer? It’s one of my trade options.
Depends on your trade. And the courses normally are done in a 4-6 week period for DP1 and can be done in the summer
@@_Matsimus_ Sgt. When you did your trade specific training , how long did it take? Artillery is my 1 of my options.
Thanks in advance Sgt.

I'm waiting for the draft. I've had too many issues over the years to be able to join without a draft.
thats what i keep reading and hearing from canadian media outlets, year over year they are not meeting numbers and the experienced soldiers they are losing yearly are not being replaced.... its kind of a problem when you dont have experienced leadership and even less experienced soldiers.....
Don't let the media dictate your life choices. Huge mistake and you lose out on a lot. The media will never shine light on the positives and only focus on the negatives so it's inherently biased.
Personally I don't think that is going to happen, no matter how desperate we get.
But for arguments sake, let's say Canada does start conscription again.
Would you rather do your courses with people who volunteered to be there, or people who were forced to be there?
@@TheeYellowDart yeah true enough. I'd rather be with other willing souls not forced labour
@@matthewsnively5728Yeah buddy, just a consideration is all. Group morale might take a hit, but if guys are committed and motivated, I think that'll be a stronger bond.
I have my QMB in july
Always always ask the staff if you need to bring your gas mask. They’ll like your initiative.
Haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but quick search through the transcript suggests you didn't mention nutrition. Nutrition comes before fitness, because achieving good fitness is not possible without proper nutritional habits, let alone maintaining good fitness over long periods of time. Prepare your own meals from high quality ingredients yourself, cut all seed oils and start moving towards low carb or keto but don't do it too fast because the body needs time to adapt to changes in metabolism.
thanks mat.... still working on my debt (cell phone company decided to charge me thousands on my phone bill couple years ago i tried fighting it and ignored it (not smart) now... that i want to join they said, it has to be dealt with, but i didnt do anything to be charged thousands of dollars for a few phone calls.... hope i can convince them to just cut the bill half twice and ill pay $500 to have it cleared.
All debt has to be completely cleared?
@@kevinocon8937 yeah they do a credit check and any outstanding balances they will discuss with you if your not already making payments
Hey bank and kevin. They want to see your debts arent in collection. As long as you are working on it actively and making payments you should still be able to apply.
@@kevinocon8937 talk to the recruiter during the process. They'll work with you. They changed the process in the last year so its a bit easier than it used to be to apply with debt.
Piece of advice I got over and over again, so I’ll repeat it here. If you’re former Cadets, Air cadets, Civil Air Patrol, JROTC, Young Marines, don’t say anything about it unless they hold you down and force you to say.
are you american?
You'll be asked to write a biography. If you're being honest (which you should be) it'll be written there. Other behaviours will give it away too (like knowing Drill).
You may as well be honest. Don't flaunt it of course, but recognize that you have a lot of new things learn and be a team player.
if you get asked be honest, my staff asked me if i was in cadets cause i was doing my drill properly on day 1, i said yes and they told me "great, you best help your platoon out, they are going to need it"
Is there a way to reach out to you
Why is CZcams deleting my comments?
I have a question, before I go to BMQ is it a good idea to put some money aside so I can pay my bills while I’m in BMQ. Im currently renting a house and I don’t think they will let me go on my phone to make a e transfer to my land lord lol .. anyone have advice on paying bills while being away ?
You get your phone back at the end of week 4. You will be around 30 minutes a night for things like that.
Do i physicaly , stand a minimum chances of passing BMQ , being a 5.2 ft 122lbs male? I know ill eat shit being smaller than everyone...and i got no idea what trades could i do in what branch of the force, ive thought about the navy experience program but yeah i just dont want to be trown out the third floor windows like a potato sack because i made a mistake that cost everyone to hate me etc 😮
Im in the Navy now man. Being smaller shouldn't affect you. Especially in the Navy. The sleeping arrangements are all a lot more comfortable for a smaller guy
I was on an army exercise with a guy about your size. He was in the Vandoos. Franco dude, tough as nails. The current issue rucksack wasn't a good fit so I kinda donated my old style one to him (don't tell the CAF). In my own BMOQ we had a PO1 instructor that was also about your size, one of the most popular instructors on our course. I myself am shorter than most and I was a BMQ platoon commander. There might be a little teasing sometimes but true respect will come with principles, drive, and ability, not stature.
The best thing about the Canadian military is that after doing push ups and sit ups for 8 weeks, you can let yourself go to shit for the next 30 years.
True. Duty. Valor

**knife-hand twitching**
how old is too old to join the Armed Forces?
57 I think
@_Matsimus_ 57 is correct. It's 60 minus the 3 year minimum required for the career chosen.
Members can ask for employment beyond CRA 60 though; and these are granted on a case by case basis.
So you are in SAS British special forces
Yea I am….
SAS is a joke these days, like all british military
Never get in to a argument with a instructor. you never going to win it. remember he or she is going to do the room inspection and check that your gear are in order. If they are looking for something. they are going to find something. Nobody makes evrything perfect all the time.
just gotta say yes and accept the punishment, usually they kinda snicker if you did something really unique and they caught it, they love that part.
Is there a version of this video that is just the video .... without the commentary of this random dude ..?
When will Canada begin to catch up on military spending for their NATO commitment??? Within the next couple decades??? Shalom
why would anyone pay for nato when kevin gomez from ohio will pick up the bill
