    This song is one of my favourites! ... and the acting gives so much life to it!!
    I agree though, I'm missing Stephen already. The new bass indeed has HUGE shoes to fill!

    There are few groups that I like everything about, but I can find no flaws whatsoever in the King's Singers' performances!

    Two of 'our boys' are no longer here, but the fantastic Kings Singers sound goes on, we now have Johnny Howard, who has taken Stephen Connelly's place on Bass and another Chris Brueton, who takes Phil Lawson's place as 1st Baritone... BUT the sound is still AMAZING.. *sighs* .. :0)x

    No counter tenors for this piece? The bass' voice is so light, and velveteen.

    I am still so loving this song.... all the facial expressions...hee hee... I have watched it four times in a row so I could watch each man sing... But Paul and Stephens eyebrows still make me laugh.... Phil and ? (oops forgotten thingumys name for a second...) still make me giggle when they wave and look at whoever Stephen is waving at... Oh what a joy to watch and listen too... Happy me again... :0)x

    We come to sing, Madam,
    The Serenade in your honor:
    May we have happiness
    May the song please your soul.
    All the doors are closed to us,
    May the soul at least open to us,
    Who do not ask on their knees
    What a smile on your pink lips.
    It's windy, it's cold, but whatever
    If your face ruddy
    Throws us a ray of sunshine
    Who warms us at your doorstep.
    Of spring the loving light
    Laughs at home in all seasons,
    And, Madam, in your house
    Every day the nightingale sings.
    Now do you want to know
    Who are these people masked in black
    Coming to say goodnight
    And sing under your window?
    Deign to learn who we are:
    Our eyes are hidden under wolves,
    It's the better to laugh at the jealous
    But we are good men,
    Full of honor and courtesy,
    Keeping two loves in our hearts,
    Ladies and poetry,
    Ladies and poetry.
    ~~~
    Nous venons pour chanter, Madame,
    La Sérénade en votre honneur:
    Puissions-nous avoir le bonheur
    Que la chanson plaise à votre âme.
    Toutes les portes nous sont closes,
    Que l'âme du moins s'ouvre à nous,
    Qui ne demandons à genoux
    Qu'un sourire à vos lèvres roses.
    Il vente, il fait froid, mais qu'importe
    Si votre visage vermeil
    Nous jette un rayon de soleil
    Qui nous réchauffe à votre porte.
    Du printemps la lumière aimante
    Rit chez vous en toute saison,
    Et, Madame, en votre maison
    Tous les jours le rossignol chante.
    Maintenant voulez-vous connaître
    Qui sont ces gens masqués de noir
    Vous venant dire le bonsoir
    Et chanter sous votre fenêtre?
    Daignez apprendre qui nous sommes:
    Nos yeux sont cachés sous des loups,
    C'est pour mieux rire des jaloux
    Mais nous sommes des gentils hommes,
    Pleins d'honneur et de courtoisie,
    Gardant deux amours en nos coeurs,
    Les Dames et la poésie,
    Les Dames et la poésie.
    I have watched yet again... and Stephen cannot physically keep his hands still...hee hee... The others almost always keep their hands together in front, but lovely Stephen just gestures and seems to be more physically involved...
    Not that the rest are not singing because they are all awesome, but the little gestures that Stephen does makes me smile ans sway along...
    Happy me still, I will be humming this to myself in work later today... :0)x
    The eyebrows have it...hee hee... Both Paul's and Steven's seem to have a life of their own... Wonderful, wonderful singing indeed... Steven will be missed, his cheeky grin and 'the eyebrows'... But I sure whoever the others choose will do the job superb;ly... I have yet to hear a 'bad' Kings singer in whichever range...*ahhh sigh and sit back and enjoy*... ;0)x
And the new voice to replace Stephen his name is Johnny... Have a look-see for yourselves a most informative site indeed... Keep singing guys you are truly wonderful... *sighs* :0)x
    Johnathon Howard takes over Stephen's very large shoes in October 2010... Good luck Johnny and good luck too to Stephen in whatever you do... You deserve no less, your contribution to TKS is awesome and you will be missed...
    But it is the nature of the beast that men come and go, all have left their marks, Stephens' is very large indeed...
    Humm I wonder if Johnny has very mobile eyebrows????? :0)x
    @wenglishsal jonny is definately a wonderful soul. i've had the pleasure to speak to him on 2 or 3 occasions, and he is so warm and charming. we're already talking about piano music and such. i feel he's a keeper, i've told him that the fans are behind him 100%. i certainly hope that fandom is going to be able to hold to my statement, for his sake... he certainly deserves the support of fandom behind him
    Some problems with the R here. True in Anglophonic languages it is a soft one more of an ahhh, true in French it is a hard one, but it is not a long rolling one. So please shorten the R, to make it sound properly French.
