  • @bensonCP

    It's a beast, I love mine.
    One big issue is the way the power module is not fully sealed and chews up sand in the spur gear. I have also shimmed mine as it was sloppy out the box and some people have experienced the slipper rubbing on the inside of the housing. My fix for the dirt issue is to seal it up and grease all the cracks, and underside of the module so dirt can't collect in there and make it really hard to get the module out. I also put some foam behind the module where the honey combs are to stop dirt getting in behind the module. To stop the chassis getting full of dirt, a stocking works well!

    It has quite a few faults actually. The bottom of the spur case is open and collect dirt and grit which eats spurs regularly they should have sealed it. The plastic driveshaft will melt apart if you get a twin inside and it rubs on it. The steering gets jammed by pebbles regularly. The shocks leak since new. Once those things are fixed it's durable.

    The Senton is a such a great car. I Got one two years ago starting into rc again. Beat the heck out of it and then built it into a granite. The granite was not so fun so I chopped it for parts when it finally broke. Now I have a Typhon thats amazing, and I now know all the tricks and fixes on the 3s rig, I can tune and fix it so fast now. I Missed the Senton so a new one is on its way. After a while I’m gonna tune it with a proline bash body, 17mm hex / buggy wheels and 4s it.
    I also have a 2wd slash, it breaks all the time and you can tell the parts are smaller / less plastic and less durable. I regret buying it, toy car.

      I maintain its the best all-round rc sct truck there is. It can do 50 mph out of the box but can easily made much faster, tough as a coffin nail, large enough to impress, small enough to be convenient, easy and cheap to fix, and does it all on 2s and 3s batteries and below 350 dollars. It's hard to beat it with anything below 500 dollars.

    Great car. Parts are reasonable and easy to get and most of the 3s line have interchangeable parts. I also really like the motor and ESC for it's performance. The down side is probably the way the chassis acts like a dust pan and collects everything and yes the servo gets jammed up quite often. They make a net / dust cover and that might be helpful. Not a big deal really for a car that is so fun to drive. Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree it's a great first car for a beginner because they will soon enjoy the extra speed of 3s over the 2s version. Don't get the 2s brushed version of the Granite or Senton IMHO . Here is a comment thrown into the void. I just got into RC. Long story short I let multiple bad experiences with hobby shop personnel when I was younger which bothered me so much then and now sometimes when I go in them today that I never got into RC despite wanting to. Anyway, I just started watching more of these videos after about 6 months of trying it all out. I always called it "the walk of shame" in my head when I had to go flip my truck/car etc back over. I didn't know that was a thing, to say that when you went to recover, until I saw it in a bunch of videos. I guess it's a natural fit because every walk was me doing a dumb thing.

    I just got one used on ebay for 200 usd. Used it a few times and it was cool but almost regreting it. I switched it to my dumbo radio and suddenly the thing was crazy fast. Thats when I realized the previous owner had the original tx set to 75% throttle. Now the thing is a blast. Its my first 1/10 rc, 2nd hobby grade rc (first was the wltoys 144010). Its taken my lack of skill very well. Many cartwheels and many high speed roll overs and nothing broke yet. I would guess anything with that kind of power is going to burn thru tires. My 144010 burned thru a set of tires after like 5 battery packs. Already on my 3rd set after maybe 10-15 packs of pavement thrashing. Had the senton for a few days now and already looking for a set of wheels cuz I know it won't be long 😆 So far they are lasting longer then the 144010 tires tho. But yea great value if your buying one pre owned, I would recommend it. It's going to get beat up no matter what so might as well save a few bucks and buy used if you can find a decent one

    • @Rek_Rc
      @Rek_Rc  Před rokem +1

      You're going to love your Typhon. The spur gear issue really only typically becomes an issue with extreme careless bashing. But, don't let that worry you or limit the fun you have. Even if the spur gear does shred, it's really cheap and really easy to fix. If you upgrade to the metal spur gear you'll really never have to think about it again for the most part. All rc cars break, it's part of the hobby, but they can all be fixed up like new again with relative ease, and usually very cheap.

      They make the 4x2 boost version you can swap to 2wd brushless or even 4wd brushless. But I think that truck only qualifies for 4x4 SCT class. • @Rek_Rc
      @Rek_Rc  Před 2 lety

      It depends on the kind of charger you use. I'd recommend a balance charger like an HB6 or something of that type. You'll want both a 2s and 3s battery, though the senton is plenty fast still even on 2s.
      But if you get a charger that you can control voltage rate with like an HB6 haisito or an EBL it can be be as little as 45 minutes or as long as 3 hours. For example I use a 2s and 3s battery, both are 6000 mah, so I charge them at 4 volts though you can go as high as 5 or 6 . Basically it's 1 volt for every 1000 mah generally speaking (unless otherwise specified always read charging instructions) .
      But a simple wall charger can take hours. Either way I think you're going to love your senton. I hope you have a blast with it. Be sure to upgrade the spur gear to steel when you can though. Other than that, it's just about a perfect RC car 🚗 .Thanks so much for the comment and question. I love talking about the hobby.

    • @Rek_Rc
      @Rek_Rc  Před 10 měsíci

      It goes on sale often and usually it's the same price everywhere so if you want it fast, go Amazon, but some of the rc hobby sites may be running specials on it at any given time. Check horizon hobby from time to time, they have sales often.

      @juntti2948 anytime, I hope you find a great deal and have a great time with it if you get one. Though, if something smaller but equally fast and tough seems interesting to you, check out my newest video for one of the most extreme rc cars I've ever driven under 170 dollars and there is a link to it for less than that. Just a possible alternative you might be interested in.

      Heck yeah nice find. I need to look into that myself then. I hope you love it. I know mine has been to hell and back and it made hell look easy. I hope yours will be even tougher and faster. If I could offer one piece of advice it would be to get the steel spur gear. The OEM gear is fine and easy to swap if it strips. , It's a tough gear too, but that truck is going to make you want to push limits that a plastic spur can't handle. So get the steel. Other than that, it's as perfect an rc for the price as I can imagine. Especially in your case at that price.

    Out of the box rhe senton is tougher AND CHEAPER! By those two facts, the senton wins easily. Even when comparing their brushed versions. The sentons are all 4x4 while some slash are rwd only! And even the brushed senton is $50 cheaper than the brushed 4x4 slash.

      @Rek_Rc  Před 2 lety

      I agree, the senton is one of the very best rc cars you can buy today when considering durability, performance, ease of use, parts availability and price. There isn't much that can compete with it when those considerations are taken into account.

    You are obviously not a hardcore basher. The entire truck is plastic. I have a big rock v3 and wore out every drive train part on the truck in no time. It's a great truck after l upgraded the entire truck to my level of bashing.
