Love the subtitles! Sheena's accent is hard to follow but some of the subtitles are hilarious. This is a great technique and often use it.
So glad this came up in my feed. I’ve always gone the paper bag and glue route. This is so more authentic. Thanks.
I use hair conditioner instead of glycerin it has a humectant and softeners, plus I always have it anyway… so no extra expense…
I use organic no animal based products, also.
But any of them will work like Pantene, Suave, my friend says the dollar stuff works as well.

OF all the Faux Leather techniques I have tried, this is the one for me, I am loving it, I have to stop creating now, I have enough.

looks fab and as a vegetarian i love the fact that it is not leather. I have a lot of UK viewers that say they cannot find glycerin, glad you have told them where to buy it! Have a great day!
very easy to buy glycerin in the UK Lindsay- just tell your UK viewers they can get it from Boots the chemist.
In the US you can find it at most pharmacies. It's with the bandaids and wound care stuff... I got mine at Walmart

What can we buy in the US to substitute for spray and shine Lindsey?
I got mine from Amazon. It is used in the e-cigarette to quit smoking; Some stores have glycerin in flavors. I am going to try crystal clear or clear acrylic sealer. I put mine through the cuttlebug..Did a good job only thing it takes more time .I am experimenting . I got too inspired. Thanks very much for the video.
I love it too :) I have to source vegetable based glycerin which is easy to get online too :)

This is a great technique. Tried it and book turned out really well. Just make sure you clean your embossing machine of any residue.

Hi Sheena. I tried this technique out today. I could not get your products to seal it , so I used Modge on 1, Hibuild Sealer on 2nd one and a liquid varnish on the 3rd one. I must say I think I am liking the liquid varnish the best, but all 3 have come out well. You do have to give at least 4 coats with all 3 methods. LOVE IT!!!

1/21/22: Great Googa-mooga, Sheena, this technique was the BOMB and I loved it! I can't wait to try it. Typically, I'd use a brown paper bag, never seen it done with kraft paper, but I'm definitely gonna try it. And the embossing folder is really cool. TFS!

hair conditioner works and cheaper! Plus it's usually in your house
can you explain how, and what it does?
@@saltyboi2435 I use a really cheap conditioner from a dollar store and it actually keeps your journal feeling more like soft leather! It conditions your book just your own hair. Hope that helps

@@SheenaDouglass2021 I did make tons and tons of faux leather. Lol. Went crazy. All my cat food inserts are now faux leather. But I couldn’t emboss because I do t have the machine.

glycerine is often in the cake making section of the supermarket with the food colouring etc.

I tried this a few years ago but I found that all the lovely wrinkles were flattened out once you emboss it.

i just use alcohol and almond oil with a bit of water which makes for a very softer cover look.
I just made my first one and used dark brown latex paint and I think it came out really good! The latex seems to add a good rubbery, or faux leathery feel.

Got my Glycerin from Superdrug (pharmacy), Collall tacky glue in Coleman's art shop. One more thing I needed, an eBosser!!! (been thinking about it as unable to use manual machines). Turned my want into a need ;-) Just wish I could get hold of your folders - sold out all over.

finally got round to getting the right kraft paper and will be trying the technique out very soon. I know Sheena does not have time to check the comments or answer but does someone else know how I can get the different colors she shows in the video? is it still using the craft card and just coloring on top with a different color distress ink ? Fabulous! I always achieved a faux leather look, as well as lots of depth, by layering shades of Distress ink on grunge board over and over - very beautiful, but NOT cost effective! Can't wait to try your much cheaper method!

I have had this saved for the right project & now I think I have one (hope, anyway). It would appear you don't reply to q's here but will ask in case. If necessary I'll go to website. Can we use mod podge, decoupage or watered down pva as alternative to spray & shine? This is an amazing technique & I am so pleased you shared it here, too rushed on tv. Tfs :))

should be cheap, Vegetable glycerine. Maybe try Amazon?

Thanks for this great idea, I've never seen this done before, I look forward in making a journal. could I use water & aloe vera gel, or alcohol with the aloe vera gel instead of the glycerin.
