Excellent video! I wanted to know if it's possible to apply this same effects to more complex drawings already done in AI or PS, or this only works created with shape layers in AE
This is such a fantastic and clear tutorial, thank you!! Could you please share how you added that scratchy texture that's on the shapes at 9:58 ? I don't know how to find a tutorial for it!
Fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. One question: is there a way to animate the trim path of the whole shape, as there already is a trim path on the secondary shape? To make the line appear.
I guess I found it: add a mask to the layer, copy the main path to the mask. Add a stroke effect. Set trhe stroke width to cover the visible line. Set the stroke effect to Reveal Original Image. Animate the End point of the stroke.
Thank you! Yes, I start talking about this at 10:00 in the video. Basically, you just add a second trim paths at the bottom of the shape contents, and put your keyframes on that instance of trim paths.
is there any way to do this effect to a lot of text in a fast way, because I want to do a video lyrics and I need add this effect for all the texts, thank you so much for the tutorial anyway 🙃
This is the pack that I used: aescripts.com/set-matte-texture-pack-01/ There are other packs on that website, or you could make your own by scanning various textured papers.
superb tutorial i have one question how to make the animation of the text longer (i tried increasing the time code (time*) to 1000 its not working after that, i add again the effect still not working ) if you mind can you help me

This video scared the shit out of me because it includes the Start menu and Task bar and I looked at the time and it said "9:41 PM" and I was like "WHAT THE FUCK??? I thought it was like 7:30?" and then I realized I had your video full screen and it looked like it was my task bar and clock. Great tutorial btw!
Aya Ahmed I got these animated textures from aescripts.com. There are a few free packs and a few that you can buy. You could also make your own by drawing on paper and scanning it into the computer.
Annie Murphy Thank you! Yes, if you right click on an illustrator layer in your timeline, you can choose Create > Create Shapes from Vector Layer. This will convert an illustrator layer into an after effects shape layer, and then you can follow the steps in the tutorial
Hello. I want something like this but my issue is that my drawings are in photoshop and I can’t turn them into a shape layer on after effects? Does anyone have a solution for this?
If your drawings are in photoshop, theres no direct way to turn them into shape layers. You could try using the Trace Image feature in illustrator to convert it to a vector, which you can bring into After Effects and convert to a shape layers by right clicking the layer and choosing Create > Convert to Shape Layer. If that doesn't work, I'd recommend tracing over the image in After Effects to manually turn it into a shape layer.
Wow! This is a game changer for me. What a hidden gem of a tutorial. Many thanks!

I just have one question. How do you animate the charcoal texture?
This guy probably one of the best instructurals, hands down, since most CZcams tutorials
are downright, hate to say it, lame.

0:10 How to get that page moving background effect?
I guess the page is not moving, think it's a time varying light effect.(light leaks overlay possibly)
Hope it helps!!
can someone tell me how to do that effect of background as if the page is moving?
try Ben Marriott's looping texture tutorial here: czcams.com/video/CqCbwMbidBw/video.html
Can you somehow do this with image?
how do you make it infinite? for example, i have A 3 minute comp.
Ivan Lostthreads time remap
Since most of the animation is driven by expressions, it should work for whatever length of your layer is.
How can I get the Charcoal texture??
for some reason i cant group anyhing in after effects? why is that? the only thing i can do is pre composing but it doesnt really solve my problem
